Hey there, congrats on launching Mammoth 2 for Mastodon! Itā€™s awesome that youā€™re making the Mastodon experience more user-friendly and customizable. Love that it's free and open source ā€“ that's a huge plus for community buy-in. Have you considered integration with other open-source tools to enhance the user experience even further? Keep up the great work!
Benoit Nolens
@daxeelsoni Thanks, Daxeel! YES! We're considering adding other open-source social networking services. We're listening to our community too to help shape our roadmap. Anything in particular you're thinking of?

Hi there! Thanks, @chrismessina, for hunting this! I'm a repeat entrepreneur (Firefox, Tap Tap Revenge and more), now working w a small team on Mammoth 2. šŸ¦£ What is Mammoth? Mammoth is Mastodon made easy ā€” modern, fun, fast. With our 'For You' feed and Smart Lists like /makers, /games, /pixelart, /queertech, you're in charge of your social universe, without the complexity. Mammoth is the easiest way to get off Twitter/x and onto the fediverse and Mastodon, a network of interconnected, decentralized social networks. Unlike traditional social media, the fediverse gives you control over your online experience, free from the grip of big tech. šŸ«£ Why should I care about the fediverse? 2024 is going to be the year even more people log off Twitter for good in search of smaller, healthier spaces where they can have authentic online conversations ā€”Threads, BlueSky and especially Mastodon. We believe the future of social ā€”and what comes nextā€” is all about real people and is being built today on ActivityPub and Mastodon. Social needs to be an open protocol that anybody can build on, just like email or the open web. We believe this will happen in 2024 and all of our work is to bring about this open future faster. šŸ¤· Why should I care about Mammoth? Do you really want to be part of the Twitter/x cesspool? Threads is a vibe, for now, but we donā€™t want billionaires to control the global information ecosystem. Power to the people, but letā€™s make it fun, modern and user friendly. šŸ’”What's so great about ur app? 1. Easiest possible onboarding to Mastodon: With just a few clicks you can onboard to Mastodon and decentralized social. Itā€™s fast, simple, without all the complexities like choosing a server. 2. Instant suggestions on people and accounts to follow: Once youā€™re in, youā€™ll immediately see personalized suggestions on accounts to follow so you can start building your network right away. 3. Curated ā€˜Smart Listsā€™: Easily discover interesting people and conversations, organized by topic and handpicked by the community 4. A For You Feed thatā€™s transparent and controlled by you: Youā€™re in control of the content you see with toggles for things like topics, accounts, and interests šŸ’¬ What are people saying about your app? - The Verge: "The new Mammoth app is a much simpler take on Mastodon" - Cabel Sasser: "Really appreciating the design of Mammoth, congrats!" - Rafa: "Congrats to the Mammoth team for shipping a great update today -- if you're still using the official client do yourself a favor and give it a try āœØ" - @sdw: "Mammoth 2 looks wonderful. Really great work, @ploink and co!" šŸ˜® Can I use it today? Yes, if you're on iPhone, iPad or an Apple Silicon Mac. It's a free download at Yup. Itā€™s a free download https://apps.apple.com/us/app/ma... šŸŽ™ļøWE ARE EAGER TO HEAR FROM YOU. If you're on Twitter still, what will it take for you to move?

Let's explore the limitless possibilities of Mammoth 2 for Mastodon! What innovative ways can we use this powerful platform to bring our communities together?
Benoit Nolens
@itsawaisyounas Thanks for your comment Awais. I'll let others react on this as well but for me: You have so much more control. - Mammoth 2 makes it very easy for new members to find interesting content and onboard into this new social network. - You have a quickly growing ecosystem of tools and documentation to help you craft your own experience if you're more technical. - If you don't like Mammoth, no problem, just leave and take your content and followers with you. šŸ¤Æ But at the end, for me, it's about great content. We integrated a bunch of Smart Lists, curated by members of our community to help you find users and content that matters. I hope you like it! We'll keep improving this with feedback from the community. Create great content, be authentic, and people will follow.
Benoit Nolens
@itsawaisyounas @damon_outlaw We're running on Mastodon. So you can install another Mastodon client and still have all your followers, followings, posts, blocks, mutes, etc. Alternatively you can export all that content to a CSV https://docs.joinmastodon.org/us...

Mammoth 2 for Mastodon provides a user-friendly experience for navigating the Mastodon social network. Congratulations on this launch! How does Mammoth 2 enhance the user experience compared to the standard Mastodon interface?
Benoit Nolens
@millie_crystal Thanks for your kind words! For the user experience we really focused on these 4 aspects: 1. A For You Feed thatā€™s transparent and controlled by you: Youā€™re in control of the content you see with toggles for things like topics, accounts, and interests

It's nice to see how Mastodon has been growing and gaining popularity within these past years, with these additional features, I'm certain it can even grow faster than before. Congrats Mastodon team!

Is it dark mode only?
ploink
@sentry_co we currently have dark and light mode.
Benoit Nolens
@sentry_co No, we have a light theme as well. We'll match your system-wide appearance settings but you can also override it in the app settings. Thanks for asking!
Meenank Minnu
I don't know a single person in my network at least who uses Mastodon, but all the besttt ā¤ļø
Benoit Nolens
@superminnu Thanks, Meenank. We tried to make it super easy to find interesting accounts in the first few minutes of using the app. It's a great way to extend your network šŸ˜€ and, maybe, if you like it, invite people over here!? We think it's the future of micro-blogging. šŸš€

āœ… Make mastodon easy for newcomers We set out with this one main goal in mind. Hand the phone to someone who has never used Mastodon or even Twitter/X and see if they can create a feed of posts they get value out of in less than 5 minutes! Mostly this means saying no to a lot of power user focused features and trying to keep Mammoth laser focused on helping people find content to follow. Instead of a classic tag cloud onboarding we start with community curated lists following a variety of topics (more to come!). The goal of the lists is to give you a vibrant collection of accounts following your interests you can browse instantly in their entirety; or you can just let the best posts show up automatically in your For You feed. We are just getting started but wanted to start working out in the open rather than in secret. šŸ—ŗļø Here's what our roadmap looks like: āŗ Timeline stability and improved onboarding. āŗ A post composer redesign. āŗ More lists focused on more interests and regions! What did we miss on our roadmap? Enough interest in a certain area can certainly reshape or add to this! Let us know!

This is a nice app that looks to address several pain points for potential Mastodon users. This will help make the journey significantly easier to join the Fediverse. It helps remove many of the excuses people can offer as to why they remain on X, we are getting to the point where user's will have to be honest about why they really remain.
