Hello! I'm back with a second edition of the Marketing for Developers book! (Product Hunters can get $10 off by using this coupon) Since I initially published it in 2015, it's sold over 5,000+ copies. Here's what's new: - A new chapter on "Choosing the right market" for your product - A new chapter on "Why customers buy products" (Jobs to be Done) - A new chapter on SEO for SaaS and software products. (One of the most important marketing channels) - Updates on all the existing chapters: new screenshots, improving readability, and removing old material - A new case study on Adam Wathan's $100k launch I hope you enjoy it! (BTW - I'm doing an AMA on IndieHackers here)

I can vouch for the insights Justin publishes through various channels including YouTube. There are many gems in the experiences shared by entrepreneurs he has interviewed on YouTube, and by just that itself I can see how much he would have packed in the book. Great resource for developers who want to make it on their own.
Justin Jackson
@dotmanish Thanks! Have you seen this one yet?

Congrats on shipping! ⬆

@noeltock thanks!

Justin supports me (I'm a developer) in my path to abandon my job, launch a business and live on my own terms

Pros:

Clear message, narrow audience, deep understanding of the audience alongside with excellent content inside Justin's course.

Cons:

Teaser video on PH is not catchy enough

Randy Skopecek
Justin did a great job with v1. I really enjoyed it. Tons of targeted material. It's cool to see him roll out a new version, polishing it some more, and expanding the content. It's on my list to get an updated copy.
Justin Jackson
@rskopecek past customers get the update free! If you haven't got an email yet, let me know!

I just got this book, and just started to read, but I'm amazed! And I know how I will spend the next 12 hours ;-)

is this like, the reverse of https://www.producthunt.com/post...?
Justin Jackson
@iamedwardtay lol. @jwmares and I were both speaking at conference in Austin and we laughed about that. Yes, essentially it is the reverse. ;)
Jeremy Blaze
Thanks so muchfor writing this Justin! Have purchased and look forward to reading 😊. Keep up the good work
Justin Jackson
@mrjeremyblaze thanks for getting it Jeremy!

Justin is an expert in his craft, which is helping developers to become indie hackers and sell , sell, sell. What I found the most interesting about Justin's approach is that he advocates for developers to "get out the building", talk to people, and learn about their market this way. Justin is also a really, really nice guy. I've interviewed him for my podcast Everyone Hates Marketers (https://everyonehatesmarketers.c...) and I learned a lot - so will you! Buy his book :)
Justin Jackson
@louisslices thanks! Your podcast has been one of my favorite interviews this year.
Mark Horgan

I found the course more useful than the book, though it might be an idea to get the book first to see if it's relevant to your needs.

Pros:

Provides just the information you need to launch an indie software product

Cons:

You have to do the work

Marketing for Developers is great. And Justin is awesome. When I was a broke startup bootstrapper, he helped me out.
Justin Jackson
@johndavidback ;) Glad I could help!
Vitor
A great resource and guide for developers! Justin has an unique way to explain product and marketing management, and understands developers like no other product manager. The Marketing for Developers is a no-brainer, a must!
Justin Jackson
@vitorspencer thanks so much for the kind words!
Dražen Lučanin
I wend through Justin's course (https://devmarketing.xyz) and this book and I can really recommend both to all tech-minded people who need a hand in bootstrapping the business/marketing side! Lots of useful information inside and Justin has a very practical, hands-on style of lecturing.
Justin Jackson
@metakermit thanks Dražen! Can't wait to see what you do with it!
Nick Loadholtes

I'm using Justin's approach as I build my side hustle and it has really helped me get clear on what I'm doing.

Also, I met Justin at a conference this year and he is just as cool and genuine in person as he his in the book.

Pros:

It is very targeted and speaks to developers who want to take that next step

Cons:

In v1 of the book I was wanted more info about choosing a market and getting in front of them. I think it's covered in v2 (still reading it)

Anthony Da Mota
I am going to grab a copy of this book very, very soon :) Looks promising! Thanks 👍🏻
Justin Jackson
@akdm_ awww yeaaaah! Don't wait too long. 😉
Miguel Piedrafita

The first book was awesome, the laracon talk also was, and I'm starting to think everything Justin does is worthy just because he made it.

Pros:

It helps developers like me that don't know anything about marketing.

Cons:

I really couldn't find everything bad ;)

This course really changed my vision of how to create products (and find products ideas) people actually want. Working on it by now and I think so far, it's the best buy I did to reach my goal to make a living of it. So, if you're a developer and you want to market your product the good way and make a living of it, well... Why are you still here reading my post?
Justin Jackson
@joffreycarle awesome! Glad it's been helpful for you.
Chris Belanger
Bought this on a whim but it's full of really great advice that applies to makers across lots of verticals. You're missing a section, though, to follow "After You Launch"...titled "Taking Care of Your Customers". The product cycle doesn't end with a successful launch, and some makers forget about that. v3.0, perhaps?
John Moody
If you are a developer who makes your own products (or you want to in the future), then you owe it to yourself to grab a copy of Marketing for Developers. Justin is a natural teacher and does a great job of demystifying the voodoo that is marketing (or so it appears to us tech-types!). I can't recommend it highly enough!
Justin Jackson
@thatmoodyguy thanks so much for the kind words John!
Jonathan Hill
This looks really interesting ... but I want to ask, is there lots of extra value in the video courses that isn't in the book if I read it? And lastly does this cover AdMob? Many thx, well done on putting it together just hope you don't mind my questions thx.
