I've been playing with Matter and love it. The design and UX is incredible. I've already learned a lot about myself by getting feedback from friends, family, and coworkers.
Congrats @bretthellman and the Matter team. So impressive to see the growth. Had a question about pricing for Matter. Will “individual accounts” be different from any other types of accounts? If I have a team with 10 people using Matter, does being a part of the beta mean it’ll be free forever…? Or is there a catch?
@nikunj Thanks Nikunj! Thank you for reaching out to clarify. Our commitment is that all of Matter's current features will remain free forever. In the future, we plan to offer new experiences which will be included in our upcoming Matter Pro offering.
Hey there PH! 🎉
Today, we're releasing analytics for your feedback and skills. Now, you can view trends like average rating on a skill, view and revisit past feedback, and see how you're doing over time on a specific skill.
🎨 Filter feedback: revisit, view, and open past feedback in a snap
🍎 Skill score: check out the average rating you have on a skill
📈 Trends: track how you're doing over time, from the moment you start working on a skill to the first feedback you receive
💙 On behalf of the Matter's team, I'd like to thank the Product Hunt community for all the support and feedback you've given us in the past year. We wouldn't be where we are today without your support every step of the way!
💬 If you have any questions or feedback, please comment below. I’ll personally respond to every comment.

This looks like a wonderful way to get feedback from coworkers and friends about my career. Is there anyway for people to answer this anonymously so they don’t feel the pressure just to give positive feedback?
@basicbonsai Great question! We have a philosophical point of view that peer-to-peer feedback should not be anonymous. This is why Matter does not provide an anonymity feature when providing feedback.
The benefits of transparency:
Continue the conversation
Receiving feedback with transparency provides you with the opportunity to continue the conversation with a peer.
- When receiving feedback, this enables you to follow-up with your peer to learn as much as possible and not risk making damaging assumptions.
- When providing feedback, this demonstrates you personally care about your peer by providing the opportunity to follow-up, learn more and improve.
Constructive feedback
Anonymity can often backfire and lead to undesired consequences. This can result in creating a toxic company culture. When people know their feedback is attributed to them, it results in a higher level of thought, constructiveness and care.
When anonymous feedback is appropriate
A employee giving their boss or the company's leaders feedback is called upward feedback or a "skip-level" feedback gathering process. In these scenarios, anonymous feedback may be appropriate to ensure employees provide honest feedback without fear of losing their job.
Matter is not designed for anonymous upward feedback. Matter is designed to make peer-to-peer feedback easier, more effective and more pleasant.
@basicbonsai check out @howamigoing, we believe psychological safety is paramount to giving peers honest, constructive feedback - so all of our 360s are anonymous. Humans have come along way the past 30,000 years, but fight or flight still governs most of what we do. The pressure to not hurt feelings is pretty grand :-)
Hey team, congrats on the launch 🎉🎉🎉! I love what you all have built with Matter. I've been using it since the private beta and find that it is an invaluable tool for my personal and career growth.
Analytics is not something I typically think about as something that relates to interpersonal feedback. If you can share, I'd love to hear to origin story behind this feature and how you think being able to view feedback in this manner will change how it is perceived.
Keep crushing it! Excited to try out this feature next time I receive feedback from my team.
@parkerhendo Really good question! One of the things we realized with "growth minded" individuals is that it's very hard to track your progress, especially if it's over time. We would hear questions like: Have I improved? Have I gotten better? How do I know when I have reached my goal. Adding analytics, as well as the ability to filter your feedback down to just one skill helps to answer those questions.
Hi @bretthellman!
Thanks to you and a team, the product's idea and execution are great!
1) Do you have some kind of a high-level public roadmap for the next features? I would love to check it if it exists
2) Do you plan to make Matter profiles shareable in the future, so you could add it to the Linkedin account for example?
Thank you in advance!
@dmitry_derbenev Thank you for sharing this note - It's notes like yours that keep us working hard for our users!
#1 - We currently don't have a public roadmap but I love the idea. To be honest, I don't think it would be super useful since as a startup, we only plan 3 months out. If there is a particular feature you'd like to see on Matter, please let me know and I'll share if that's coming soon. And better yet maybe the feature will get added.
#2 - We are exploring this idea. It's likely 6 months away. I'd love to learn more. How would you want to use your public Matter profile?
Thank you!
@bretthellman thank for your reply!
How I see possibility of using public Matter profiles:
1) Make public commits about improvement areas. E.g. you gather 3.5 feedback about leadership skill on Matter. And you share your profile on Facebook promising to work on this skill for a next month
2) Connect it with the linkedin profile as additional proof of skills (but it may cause socially acceptable answers)
@dmitry_derbenev This is really great! Thank you for taking the time to share these ideas - I just shared them with my entire team. Stay tuned for exciting updates coming soon!
