Can you share some of the technical implementation details? For example, how is this using ChatGPT since there's no official API. Or is it actually some other model and you're calling it ChatGPT for convenience? Really curious to know! (Also, in any case, how much does it cost to run this per day/week/month?)
Pratyush Rai
@puneet_kohli great ques. Someone from my team will get back to you on this. CC: @siddsax

@puneet_kohli Yup, we are using text Davinci model.
Puneet Kohli
@siddhartha_saxena2 that’s expensive to run if you actually have a lot of users, since this is free, I’m curious how you’re re-couping the costs
Siddhartha Saxena
@puneet_kohli Yup, right now we are mostly experimenting things out :)

For some reason it just thinks i'm always on a website called Brainly? Not able to make it work unfortunately :/ Looks like a really cool product if I could get it to work.
Sergej Gorišek
awesome! Really excited for this. It makes it so much easier to just press the shortcut and type instead of going to a new tab and working in the chatgpt enviroment
Pratyush Rai
@sergej_nejc_gorisek thanks Sergej! And yeah idea was to make sure that users don't need to keep switching tabs and rather have a simpler UX
Finn Brown
Does not work
Pratyush Rai
@f_karamazov Please try again now Finn. There was an outage due to API limits from OpenAI when you dropped this comment. It was functional later.
Tauri
Can´t trigger the app on some on the sites. E.g. Twitter don´t work for me.
Pratyush Rai
@tauri_urbanik try a refresh on twitter. It only doesnt work on docs and standard chrome websites (history, bookmarks, etc) Let me know if the issue persists
Ziad Al-Ziadi
Looks really cool, have been waiting for something like this! The only thing that stopped me from adding this to Chrome was that it the plugin needed to "read all data on website I visited" which I'm unsure as to why. If I'm just querying an OpenAI endpoint with a prompt, is reading all data on websites I visit necessary?
Pratyush Rai
@ziad_al_ziadi Thanks for the note Ziad. It only reads data when you select a particular text and click Cmd+G. And there it reads to only copy the text that has been selected and put it as a prompt to GPT. We don't touch any other data on the websites (we can't - in such cases where unnecessary data is being taken - Chrome store won't even approve the code). Plus it also needs to add-in the html element of the Cmd box on any website. Nothing else is being done by the extension in terms of read/write on any website.

Hey PH family - 🎉 Excited to launch Merlin, a command bar AI wizard for browser! 🧙‍♂️ 🚀 Just press Cmd + M (or Ctrl + M) to call merlin to your help. It uses Open AI's chatGPT to do magic on your browser. Refresh page after installation to use Merlin. 🌟 With Merlin, you can: - Quickly generate ready-to-use emails - understand code snippets on github - summarise blogs - write tweet replies - create complex formulas on g-sheets - Or write poems! All placed exactly in your work websites! 💡 At Foyer, our vision is to create a virtual project manager for engineering teams. Our first product, i.e. Foyer Analytics & Nudges, was created to partially fulfill this vision for B2B consumers. With the launch of chatGPT, the scope and scale of what we could do with Nudges expanded exponentially. 🤔 We thought: why not bring a virtual assistant to all of our work? We experimented with a product called Ooogle, which gives OpenAI-powered Google searches, and the results were amazing. 20% day-on-day usage growth and almost 500 installs in just 8 days. 🤯 🧙‍♀️ That's when we knew we had to bring chatGPT to all of our websites. And thus, Merlin was born. 🎉 We're excited to share Merlin with the world. Give it a try today by signing in at getmerlin.in Please give us your honest feedback in comments, to help us make Merlin better. P.S. 1) If you were already using Ooogle. Merlin will get auto installed in the latest extension update. 2) We have currently launched it for free. 3) Its also live on Mozilla. Currently doesn't work on Google Docs. But if many requests come up. Will make live there too

Excited to bring it out finally! Excited to see how people use it :)

This is awesome -- so simple yet useful!
Manou Febvret
It's a really cool way of using GPT! Congrats! 👏 One little feedback, to me, it isn't very pleasant to have that icon every time I highlight a text. It would be nice to be able to deactivate this in the settings and only keep the shortcut as a trigger!
Siddhartha Saxena
@manou_febvret Thansk for the same! We have that in the plans, will be adding that and also an option so that the prompt goes away after couple seconds to the next version.

This is incredible. So like for real, I geniuly use it while watching shows or browsing google to find info fastly, and I did use it while writing the comment to check how to write "incredible". For a really silly example I was watching Bluey and when I was watching an episode where one of the characters mentioned "squash" I just pressed CTRL + G and asked Merlin if squash is a real game and it even explained it to me! I love this extension <3
Hugh Lagrotteria
Such a cool tool, @pratyush_r8 and team! I've added the extension to my browser but can't seem to get it to populate / trigger. Any thoughts on what may be wrong? Thanks!
Pratyush Rai
@hugh_lagrotteria Thanks for the note Hugh. :D If you have just installed the extension - try refreshing the webpages. Chrome requires to do that so that the extension can get activated on the page. Please note - currently the extension doesn't work on standard chrome pages (history, bookmarks, extensions manager, etc) and on google docs (plus a few set of websites which dont use text boxes) On most other websites it should work (like on linkedin, twitter, gmail, etc) Let me know if this helps or if the issue persists.

This is what I needed to get going today 🚀🚀
