Wow. This product is really for the next generation. Simple idea, but if it works well and tackles parents' issues, it's outstanding.
You got my upvote, cheers to the young generations!
@tiepvuvan
Thanks Tiep! We try to make the app simple to use so that it's accessible for even less technical parents that don't spend all day on their phone.
This is truly an awesome idea. I believe the best thing my parents ever did was giving us a fixed monthly allowance and weekly scheduled chores. It really thought me how money works, savings and discipline super early on. Kudos to you guys π
@ralic
Thanks for the support! We truly believe chores are the best way to build long term success. Using a reward system linked to money ties in financial literacy which is important to start early.
It is a brilliant way to teach children valuable life skills.
However, I'm unsure about connecting chores and earning money. Taking care of yourself is an important skill which should come with the idea of doing something good for yourself and for your family. I'm conflicted. Do you have any thoughts on that?
@anastasiia_stepko I don't think that the two need to be mutually exclusive. We believe that chores are a primary driver for developing good habits early and are correlated with success later in life. Without trying to get too philosophical, any act generally has multiple motivations, and one doesn't make the other less valid. I would rather have my my children enjoy doing chores than pressuring them to do something they don't want.
Hi Trey, a great product idea for sure! I love the 'first come first serve chores'! In Australia, we have something very similar: https://www.spriggy.com.au - my kids love it. It reduces all the "Can I have...?" questions as you can say "How much have you saved..?" right back at them!
Hi Trey, awesome product that can really teach the next generation a lot. I believe there are a lot of physical chore charts + rewards people print and stick around, but honest why bother when you can have it in an app. Congrats on the π
@theanamoura
Thanks Ana! The old tried and true chore chat can work, but having an app makes it more convenient. We also add feature like history and confirmation that are hard to get from the physical charts.
@chrismessina
Hey Chris, we didn't require a debit card to get started. We believe that not all parents are ready for children to be custodians of their own money from an early age. However, that shouldn't exclude children from a chore app. Tablet mode also offers the ability for a family to share a device for chores before children are ready to have their own phone.
Greenlight requires a debit card to get started and is aimed towards financial literacy for an older audience.
@trey_dott got it, appreciate that distinction! Do you imagine you'll never integrate w/ a payments solution directly? IOW, that parents will need to manage the flow of allowance separately?
@chrismessina our application's goal isn't specifically to teach kids finance. Our primary focus is making chores fun for kids and easy/rewarding for parents. We believe those are the two loops that are core to our users' experience, and we intend to continue to iterate on these. We would prefer to keep the optionality for parents to maintain custody of money for younger children even if we eventually added a payment solution.
