Awesome Product. Have only been using it for a few days and it is saving me at least an hour a day and is allowing me to stay focused. Recommending it to friends and family,

@ninan99 I'm so glad to hear that Ninan! Please let me know if you have suggestions or feedback on how we can make the product better :)

They spammed my university email using a Mailchimp list I never opted into and the unsubscribe link was hidden below about a million lines to obscure it. Absolutely despicable behavior from founders.
Harry Qi
@imderek Hey Derek. We've discussed this internally and with YC, and we apologize. This was unacceptable marketing strategy and we've decided to never send out another student email again.

I see that you are using the same approach as iOS screen time this is exactly what I need right now on a browser. I am used to have StayFocused but unfortunately, they are not effective because I still have to visit Facebook frequently. This tool gives me to fine gain control to analyze and review what I need to do when I visit a distracting website. Great work! πŸ‘πŸ»
Harry Qi
@namtran_wd Thanks David! That was the reason we stopped using StayFocused and made this :)
David Tran
@harry_qi Thanks, I am using this tool everyday. It does a great job of limiting my time of Facebook. Thank you very much!
Harry Qi
@namtran_wd That's great to hear David! Would love to learn your feedback :)

Like a lot that twist: "We built Motion to be proactive, but intelligent". Motion seems like a real game-changer in personal productivity improvement, good work @harry_qi @ethan_yu @omid_rooholfada2
Harry Qi
@juanpablosarmi Thank you Juan! Glad you like it; we put a lot of emphasis on the intelligent part. Love to hear your feedback!

I'm genuinely speechless that so many apps I pay for have been reduced into one incredibly easy to use tool. I've only had it 20 minutes and I'm already using it like it's second nature. 5/5, 10/10, 100/100, A+++ Thank you @harry_qi

Way better than Cold Turkey and other pre-existing solutions to the focus problem.
Parthi Loganathan
I'm a Motion user and it's been very helpful in keeping me away from Twitter or doing "productive" tasks like email which aren't what I primary wanted to work on. Great design too!
Harry Qi
@parthi_logan Thank you Parthi! That's wonderful to hear!

I've been using Motion for the past week and it's great. Really makes you think about where you spend time on the web
Harry Qi
@davidnewell95 Thanks David! Glad it's been working!

@bach_paul That's great to hear Paul!
Tim Shnaider
Excellent, thanks. As someone with currently poor discipline and self-control, but a new commitment to habit change, installed Motion to help that happen.
Harry Qi
@timshnaider Thank you Tim! Hope we can help. Would love to hear your thoughts!

Excellent idea - On execution - Full permissions - on all sites is not acceptable ...
Harry Qi
@jackishere Thank you Jack! Thanks for raising that concern - In regards to permissions, nearly all Chrome extensions, such as Honey and Grammarly, require that permission. Specifically, Motion needs it to compare a page's url to your list of distracting urls, as well as making components like the popup and the countdown appear. Motion has a very strict privacy policy - we do not sell or disclose user data; in addition, as developers, we cannot see sites or content our users visit.
Meet Chopra
@jackishere @harry_qi hey! if you want to skip the tabs permission or `< all_urls >` permission, you can use activeTab permission. With activeTab permission, you can execute scripts, insert css and do most of the functionalities necessary for you.
Omid Rooholfada
@jackishere @harry_qi @meetchopra Hi Meet! We actually considered the activeTab permission when we started building Motion. The problem is, the activeTab permission requires the user to invoke the extension on each page where we insert scripts or CSS. So for example, every time you visit a distracting site, you'd have to click on our icon in order for us to show you our on-screen interventions. When making the tradeoff, it was pretty clear to us that using only the activeTab permission would hurt the user experience and remove most of the app's usefulness. Of course, that tradeoff means we have to be much more strict about how we approach privacy, which Harry mentions above. Thanks for the comment, always happy to discuss how we think about these things!
Meet Chopra
@jackishere @harry_qi @omid_rooholfada2 thanks for explaining. Completely agreed. Btw nice work guys, I'm using it and love it till now.
Harry Qi
@meetchopra That's great to hear Meet! Would love to learn your feedback

We need an early adopter deal for this :)!
Harry Qi
@danirogerc For sure! When we launch a paid tier, we'll definitely remember all the early adopters :)

@hroland_ Thank you! Safari on the todo list!
Luke Harries
Motion is fantastic! I often have to use "distracting" sites for work and Motion does an awesome job at keeping me focused on the task. The "1 more minute" feature is genius
Harry Qi
@luke_harries That's awesome to hear Luke! Thanks so much for helping us building and iterating on this product.

Harry Qi
@dima7b1 Thank you Dmitriy! It would be great to hear what you think!
Dmitriy Bernasovskiy
@harry_qi Awesome so far. I like the notifications when I visit a distracting website. Great reminder, and so far effective.
Harry Qi
