Tab Management by Motion (Beta) — The most powerful tab manager ever built as a Motion feature
25
Motion transforms your browser into a mighty work application. Our latest step in this direction is building the most powerful tab management tool. It's flexible, fast, and easy to use.

I use SessionBuddy to solve a similar problem in my workflow. I like the idea of scheduling and shortcuts, which SB doesn’t have. Other features I’d love to see in motion (if they’re not already there): - Save entire windows for later (in a queriable list) - Shortcut to schedule right from the tab Looks great!

@kylevenn Thanks for the suggestions, Kyle! The first you is actually a subset of Motion's workspaces: simply hit cmd-A (to select all) on a window and hit W to save as Workspace. We are working on the second one!

Big fan of Motion. The product is improving so quickly that it’s scary. It crossed the threshold a couple months ago from “nice to have” to “essential,” and keeps getting better with features like this. Job well done!
Harry Qi
@nick_alexander Thank you Nick! Let's make it even more essential :)

It's safe to say I code as fast as I navigate the web, Motion has been absolutely critical. Highly recommend for any devs out there.

@yaniv_silberman1 Thanks so much, Yaniv!

I love that folks are trying to make workflows and tab management more productive, but my god... I can't handle anymore subscriptions. I'd suggest to the founders to consider this a single, one-time purchase business model instead of a subscription. Unless users really need some monthly value from your product (i.e. productivity coaching) or there's some inherent cost you incur monthly (i.e. Plaid integrations for budgeting apps) or you're developing in a space where your users need new features every quarter (i.e. Plex media server) there's just no justification for another monthly subscription.
Harry Qi
@cydeswype1 Hey Ian! You are completely right and I agree with you - we release new features every few days based on user feedback and requests, and this will continue in the future. We also provide continuous & fast customer support for all our users. That's why this is a monthly subscription :)

Incredible product. Such a need. To give some hopefully helpful feedback, I think $20/month is a steep price for this. You’re kind of in the territory of “Superhuman but for chrome instead of email.” The thing is, using Notion to clip websites from the web and then open them from that database later might satisfy the jobs-to-be-done at a “good enough” level. You may be able to experiment with two price points. The more premium offer gets a 1on1 + more features (and you have enough that I think two tiers is feasible)! Best of luck! 🙌
Harry Qi
@chasestubblefield Thanks for the suggestion, Chase! That's an interesting idea; we'll think more about it. But yes - you are right; we are building Superhuman for Chrome.

I use Workona extension manager currently. How does this compare?

I onboarded with Motion earlier this week and WOW. When a product is well designed and built by people who solved a problem they had themselves, it speaks for itself. It's made SUCH an impact on my day and I can't stop telling people about it! I went from 48 open tabs down to 8 without any anxiety and I learned the hot keys in a matter of minutes-- they're habit now. I'm gifting this to our entire team at our next milestone. Harry was super responsive when I had questions about data security and my onboarding was a great experience. NPS=10.

Soooo reliant and a real timesaver It’s a must! (Pssst... I heard they are working on a Microsoft365 integration)
Harry Qi
@itai_handler1 Thanks Itai! psssst haha

Hey PH community! The user experience of the web browser hasn't changed much over the last decade. Even today, seemingly simple actions like dragging a couple tabs from one window to another are painful. This reflects a larger problem: the browser's UX wasn't designed to support dozens (let alone hundreds) of tabs at once. We built Motion's tab management tool to solve the browser's tab problems once and for all. These are the top problems Motion solves: Problem #1: Accumulating tabs that you don't need anymore. You usually keep a tab for one of two reasons: 1. Worrying you might need it some day in the future. You're afraid that if you closed it now, retrieving that tab could be very cumbersome. Motion solves this by letting you archive tabs and create workspaces for tabs that belong to one project/subject. 2. Reminding yourself to perform a task in the future. Motion solves this by letting you to schedule tabs to reappear in the future. Problem #2: Your current project requires many (10+) tabs. Motion's subtab feature lets you group all the tabs from one project under a single tab, as vertical "subtabs". This clears space in your horizontal tab bar, and makes more sense organizationally. Problem #3: It's hard/slow to find a particular tab. When you accumulate too many tabs, they turn into tiny rectangles in your browser's tab bar, with titles no longer visible. Individual tabs become extremely difficult to find. Motion solves this with a shortcut that lets you search for any tab across all windows. And of course, Motion solves dozens of other problems too such as tabs consuming too much memory/CPU, sharing tabs with others, cleaning duplicate tabs, web apps (e.g. calendar, email...etc) loading too slowly, needing to click through several pages to complete a single action (e.g. join a meeting)...etc. While solving these problems, we worked hard to make Motion fun and easy to use. Manage your tabs with a simple drag-and-drop interface, enjoy near-instantaneous (<100ms) response times for most actions, and access Motion from any webpage with a single keyboard shortcut! Pricing: we offer a 14-day free trial, and then $20/mo. We offer a 45min 1-1 personalized onboarding for every user (even for those on the free trial) to teach you our solution to a problem we've spent 10,000+ hours thinking deeply about. I've onboarded hundreds of users in the past couple months, and hope I'll be meeting you over Zoom in the next couple weeks. Motion has a LOT of room to improve; please let us know how can we help you be more productive in the browser!

Really interesting and promising product! Curious to know more how it works, I've added some feedback here over the landing page - hope some of the points may help for future updates :) Congratulations launching on Product Hunt!

I've been a user of Motion for the past 1.5 months and it's remarkable how immediately valuable it has been to my productivity and speed. You know when you're coding and you're in a flow state in your IDE, just flying around? Motion creates a similar feeling when you're working in your browser. The large set of keyboard shortcuts and just-in-time-widgets (tab management, instant calendar/email, quick access to Google Drive, etc) makes it impossible to return to a vanilla browser experience without Motion. I would just feel stunted. I'd highly recommend if you're someone who (1) likes being in terminal/uses video game hotkeys and (2) has to deal with a ton of web-based tools for work.

@justin_ith Thanks so much, Justin!

Hey ?makers Is this still a thing/available, or did you pivot completely away from this to focus on the task management and calendar features?
Christopher Chae
great product. enjoying the experience so far. definitely recommend it!

@chaeschris Thanks so much, Chris!

If you work from home and spend most of the day accessing tools in your browser, this while give you back hours of your life. Especially for people like me who have a creaky old computer which takes 20 seconds to load even a calendar.

@gknd95 Thank you Gavin!
