Hi Product Hunt, We are Derek and Eric, founders of Mythia, a debit card that gives gaming rewards - like free video games, free PS5s, and free XBoxes. Our app also turns earning rewards into a video game, with weekly challenges, teaming up with friends, and randomized rewards. Most debit cards have no rewards at all, so we’re hoping to be a no-brainer option for many gamers. ==> The Story I started playing Starcraft ladder when I was 10, and Eric ran a former MMORPG server in high school. When I was 22, I started “travel hacking”, i.e. using airline miles to fly all over the world for free. As I did, I realized just how convoluted and confusing airline miles are. And thought there had to be a better and more fun way to do card rewards. And Eric has been crazy passionate about personal finance for years, including trying all kinds of new fintech products, and investing since he was 15. Mythia came out of our drive to create something of our own. We got together in a brainstorming session, and asked ourselves: “What would a rewards card look like if we built it for ourselves, from scratch?” It’d be fun, it’d have rewards we were actually excited about, and it’d be designed to be easy to understand (instead of intentionally confusing). And this is what we came up with. We finished Y Combinator a couple months ago, and are thrilled to finally be launching! ==> How it Works Each time you use your card, or each time you make a deposit of $50, you get a reward box. In each box, you get a chance to win a new video game, a free Playstation or XBox, credits to spend on your favorite game store, or gems to spend in our gaming store. The Mythia card has no monthly fee, no application fee, and there's no credit check to open an account. We make money from the bank sharing their revenue with us, instead of charging users fees. When you create an account, your deposits are protected in an FDIC insured checking account from Piermont Bank, up to $250,000. Mythia is now live in the United States! You can download the app in the iOS app store, or sign up on our website. You'll get a virtual card right away, and your physical card will ship as soon as you deposit $10 or more. We're happy to answer any questions, and looking forward to any feedback.

@derekpankaew Congratulations on the launch! Curious to know what happened to https://www.producthunt.com/post... ? Why is it marked as dead?
Derek Pankaew
@adityavsc - Thanks for asking! Mythra was a credit card, and Mythia is a debit card. We got some pushback on the credit aspect of the product. We didn't want to use gamification to increase debt. Also, a lot of our target demographic didn't have a strong credit history yet. This had us want to rethink which direction we wanted to go. Ultimately, we ended up switching to a debit card, and changing the name to launch as a different concept.
Aditya
@derekpankaew Ahh, I see! Thanks for clearing the confusion. Btw, great move switching from the credit card to the debit card :)
Derek Pankaew
@adityavsc Thank you! :) We're glad we made the switch as well.

@derekpankaew Love this! I always end up wasting my airline rewards, points, etc because I have no idea how to even use them and seems like I never can get anything when I want to. Earning a new PlayStation or some in-game credits make so much more sense!
Bilal Chaglani
Love the way you have gamified this!
Derek Pankaew
@bilal_chaglani Thank you! We're planning to add even more gamification features in the future. Stay tuned!
Anna Van Tuinen
The app looks really cool- I love the idea of earning points for games rather than airline miles. I already made my first deposit and can't wait to receive my card!
Derek Pankaew
@anna_van_tuinen - Thank you for trying the card Anna! Excited to hear your feedback once you get the card as well :)
Ruben Wolff
This looks like a very nice project. But how does it work exactly? Like, when you do operations with your card, how does it make you earn a console or a game? And also, have you planned on making it available outside of the US and with other currencies?
Derek Pankaew
@rubenwolff Thanks for asking Ruben! To answer your questions: 1) There are two ways to earn a console or a game. Every time you make a transaction, you get a reward box. You could get a game or a console just by opening those boxes. Alternatively, you can also receive "Gems" (our in-app currency) or credits to spent in game stores, like Steam. You can then use those currencies to purchase games or consoles. 2) We are going to be US-only for at least the first 2-3 years, though we're definitely interested in expanding internationally eventually.

I love earning airline miles but it is for sure very convoluted. I know so many people that would prefer low redemption cash back cards because they don't want to bother with the game of rewards cards. Love rethinking it and making it simple.
Derek Pankaew
@sarah_wright7 Thank you Sarah! Agreed, I loved earning miles as well, but it took me 30+ hours of reading various internet forums to really understand the ecosystem and how to take advantage of it. Cashback cards are great; but also you just get less out of it than if you got rewards cards. Thank you for the comment - we're hoping this is not only simple for gamers, but exciting and engaging!
Jaden Christopher

Derek Pankaew
@bryan_gongora_cooper Right?? I used a debit card with 0 rewards for so many years!
Jay Rosenkrantz
Great idea. Wish I had this as my first debit card instead of Bank of America, lol. Way cooler and more useful.
Derek Pankaew
@jay_rosenkrantz Haha thanks Jay! I hope we eventually replace the Bank of America cards of the world :D
