@benln oh, so many to choose from. We had some really crazy accidents, road rage incidents, motorcycles showing off. Our Youtube channel is filled with crazy stuff. My favorite though is that guy that used Nexar on a Mississippi river boat..
@eranshir can you make the tap action kind of like a chat head so it can be a little picture in picture over my maps? I love the idea but (correct me if I'm wrong) I use google maps any time I'm driving. I need a quick way to record an incident from within maps. On android I think you can do that with an overlay like chat heads/twilight do?
I tried Nexar on my iPhone but since it's my only phone it wasn't practical - I constantly needed to switch back to Waze and it actually distracted me. Now that it has an Android version, I'm positively inclined on buying a cheap Android phone that will automatically tether with my iPhone and will be a nexar-only phone. Good luck fellas.
@eladmallel The most exciting change is that you can use Nexar in the background and that you can use dual-cam mode if you want to capture in-vehicle activity too.
I have the iOS app and it's amazing.
I believe one of the companies building autonomous vehicles is going to purchase this app. It would make a lot of sense imo.
Hello Product Hunters!
Eran Shir here, I’m the co-founder and CEO of Nexar.
6 months ago we launched Nexar for the iPhone. Since then, we have recorded more than 9 million miles on the Nexar network. Drivers in 2,000+ different cities have driven with the app on.,
We have collected and analyzed over 500K events on the road, like red light running events (over 2000 in San Francisco alone), and assisted 117 drivers that were involved in a collision, providing them with our collision reconstruction report and all the evidence they need to prove their innocence and mitigate the trauma of a car crash.
We are launching today our Android beta version. Android is a great platform for Nexar. On Android you can use Nexar in the background so that you can keep on using your favorite navigation app and still record any dangerous incident. Additionally, you can use Nexar in ‘dual-cam mode’ so you can record inside your vehicle and out at the same time (Uber drivers love that feature).
Finally, Product Hunters get free stuff! Click through the link above and you’ll get instructions for getting a free Nexar Magnetic Car Mount (while supplies last! - UPDATE: That was fast! We ran out of mounts).
Thank you!
Eran
@eranshir I like it!! Have always thought about buying a dashcam, but the price point of the investment has really been a bummer for me. This, however, changes that + I don't have to keep upgrading the dashcam, I upgrade my phone, the dashcam gets upgraded too :) Congrats on Android launch and a good run so far.
Looks cool! Don't forget to change the name and description of this product in Product Hunt. Right now it only mentions Android, e.g. "Turn your Android into an AI Dashcam". But it's for iOS too!
This is really neat. Will be of super value (and a big challenge) if you can toll this out in a place like India. Is integration with Android Auto on the roadmap? I have a Pinoeer system that I connect to my Android phone and it would be amazing to have this all work together.
@eranshir@danpeguine, congrats! This is a must for all drivers regardless of where you live. My question is how do you deal with different types of vehicles. Motorcycles and electric (or regular) bikes often zig-zag between lanes and pass on the right where drivers aren't looking.
How are you accounting for this and helping drivers with "non-cars?"
@nadavweinberg Nadav, we're building classifications for everything a driver may encounter on the road, so yes, we will be able to warn about dangerous non-car objects. It's just going to take some time.
