Hey PH community 👋 Let's play some chess! ♟️ I’m Samuel, adult chess learner and maker of Noctie. We're back with a major upgrade for Noctie, your personal chess tutor! I was frustrated by my slow progress in chess. I wanted someone to practice with, and someone to learn from. So I built my own humanlike chess AI as a practice partner and tutor. One that plays just like a human at my own level, but also knows how stronger players play, so that it can give me feedback on how to improve! The best way to learn almost anything is 1-on-1 tutoring. To learn effectively, we need practice and immediate feedback. But that’s hard to get from chess books and videos, and it’s even harder to get from competitive chess. What you need is someone to practice with, at your own level, and someone who can give you advice. Unfortunately, normal chess computers suck to play against. One moment they're unbeatable, the next they make silly blunders. And the feedback they give you, is based on computer evaluations which are far from how humans think. That’s what we’ve tried to change with Noctie. We’re a small team of tech and chess enthusiasts working to make Noctie into the best possible partner in your chess journey. So far, this is what we’ve accomplished: ✔️ Chess AI that accurately mimics human play from beginner to grandmaster ✔️ Beat the AI and increase your rating and unlock new levels ✔️ Solve daily exercises and challenges and keep your streak ✔️ Instant color feedback after each move, based on humanlike intuition ✔️ Play the opening you like and learn the common responses and traps ✔️ Master openings by importing your repertoires from other tools ✔️ Flashcard exercises after each game, based on your mistakes ✔️ Smart spaced repetition practice for your mistakes ✔️ Human-created lessons, called Themes, where you play out scenarios against the AI ✔️ Create your own lessons, flashcard decks and repertoires and share with others We've come a long way, with excellent feedback from our users (thanks everyone who supported our last launch!). Our vision is much grander though. Look forward to frequent updates, new content, and greatly improved AI capabilities that will be able to explain moves and strategies to you.
