Tried this on Windows 10. Found this very intuitive to use with some awesome results. As advertised it totally blew my mind! However, the application crashed when I was working with a RAW file after I tried to click and hold the image. After restart the application refused to open any RAW files. But I am very impressed with the quality of the product. Will be trying more advanced editing if I can open RAW files.
Maria Gordienko
@itsaadityaa Aaditya, thanks for your feedback! Since it's a beta version it might crash once in a while, but the full-featured version is coming soon and it will be awesome! Stay tuned ;)

Looks great, will have to try the Mac version soon. Any plans to bring your software to iPad?
Juliana Chyzhova
@fpocha you can try it right now! https://macphun.com/luminar Right now we're working on the DAM tool
Fᴀʀʜᴀᴅ
@julianamacphun what's the DAM tool?
Maria Gordienko
@fpocha it's a digital asset management tool, or in other words - a photo catalog.
André Meyer
Nice, thanks! Any plans to put the final version into the Windows store?
Maria Gordienko
@casaout we're still considering this option, but will definitely sell Luminar on our website
André Meyer
@maria_gordienko hi Maria. Thanks for the response! I think the advantage would be to give users easy updating options, better integrate into the OS, also target Windows S users, get easy feedback from users, and have easy monetization features. You could likely use the desktop bridge: https://developer.microsoft.com/...
Maria Gordienko
@casaout André, thanks for your comment and thoughtful advice about Windows Store, we will definitely think about it.

@adamteece thanks! When the new Luminar arrives late in 2017, you can purchase one license and it will work both on Mac and PC.

As a Mac user who has never heard of Luminar, how is Luminar different from Pixelmator?
Maria Gordienko
@theleovogel thanks for the question! Luminar is more intuitive and easier to use. The UI adapts to photographer's needs and one can build it from scratch by choosing those filters and tools one needs, or select from pre-arranged workspaces that already have necessary tools for editing different image styles, like portrait or landscape, etc. Luminar also has Accent AI Filter, powered by artificial intelligence, RAW files conversion, plug-in integration with Lightroom and Photoshop, works as an extension to Apple Photos, has a great collection of presets for achieving amazing results in seconds and many other cool things. So give it a try and let us know your feedback :) https://macphun.com/luminar

Maria Gordienko
@treyratcliff Thanks, Trey! Can't wait to see the tutorials!

Thankful the Windows app business is picking up. Apple needs competition!!! and frankly their hardware sucks.
Maria Gordienko
@androidlove and from now on Macphun is cross-platform

Hi Product Hunters! 😻 Today we are launching a free public beta of Luminar for Windows. Being a successful Mac-Only software company for years, we are now expanding on to PC platform. And this is exciting! Macphun photo software received “Editors’ Choice” and "Best of the Year" awards from Apple for 5 straight years. TIPA has named Luminar for Mac "2017 Best Imaging Software". SO, WHAT IS LUMINAR? Luminar is the smart photo editor that is powerful enough to replace Photoshop and Lightroom for 90% of photo professionals and hobbyists. It adapts to your style and skill level. And brings supercharged tool like layers, masks, presets, smart photo filters powered by Artificial Intelligence and more. Some highlights of Luminar beta for PC: - Accent Filter powered by the Artificial Intelligence. One slider to make all your photos great! - Adaptive user interface. Think of Luminar as the collection of LEGO bricks - you put different elements together so it fits your preferences and skill level. - One-click presets – Over 50 default styles for instant results. - Photo Filters – Dozens of custom filters, each with built-in visual tips and a unique set of easy-to-use controls for correcting, enhancing and stylizing images. - Powerful layers with blending modes that don't bring the Photoshop complexity and confusion. PLUS: native non-destructive editing, object removal, brushes for selective editing and many other cool tools. Recommended System Requirements – Windows 10, Core i5 2.2 or better, 8GB RAM, 1GB GPU RAM, SSD with 20+GB free space. This is just the beginning of the Luminar (and Macphun's) story on PC. I'm looking forward to hearing your feedback and thanks for helping us to make this software the best it can possibly be. Alex

@alex_tsepko The landing looks nice, but why should I get it? Is it different from any other image editor?
Alex Tsepko
@nazarpanchyshyn 3 points (out of many): - No Photoshop complexity - More editing powers than Lightroom - The first PC photo editor powered by Artificial Intelligence
Fraser Smith
Good luck with the Windows beta @alex_tsepko. I've been using the Mac version since launch last year and it has gradually taken over more and more of the tasks that I would typically have done in Lightroom. In fact, there are days when Lightroom seems little more than a very bloated media browser. So, does Macphun have any plans to complete the loop and bring out a media cataloger/browser as well?
Alex Tsepko
@frassmith Great question. The short answer is YES. And here are some details: we envision Luminar as the only place you go to host, organize and make your photos look great. So the catalogue (DAM) is in the works. We really want to make it right, so it takes some time. Truth to be told - Lightroom has a lot of great tools and features, so it is not easy to invent something that people will switch for:) We will keep you updated - it's coming.

Maria Gordienko
@sofi_shvets it's already here! Check it out at https://macphun.com/luminar. So many cool features and tools, I hope you'll love it as much as we do. And the new version will arrive later in 2017. Stay tuned
Halyna Divakova
Btw, do you plan to release other Mac apps on Windows? 🤔
Juliana Chyzhova
@kengu_rut This year both our flagship products: Aurora HDR and Luminar are coming to Windows ;)
Halyna Divakova
Fantastic news. When will you release the full featured version for Windows?
Maria Gordienko
@kengu_rut we are super excited too!! Thanks for the support! The full featured Windows version will be launched late in 2017. So have fun with beta for now and stay tuned for whats coming
Halyna Divakova
@maria_gordienko Thanks for the details. Good luck with the feature!
Maria Gordienko

Reminds me of what I like about the Lytro interface (I know, I know) but updated for modern usage and performance! Love it.

Victor Grudakov
Hi! What’s the difference between beta and Mac version?
Maria Gordienko
Hi @victor_grudakov! The beta is here to give the PC users the first taste of Macphun products. It has the most important features - presets, filters, Accent AI Filter, powered by artificial intelligence and other cool stuff. The full-featured Mac version has also batch processing, workspaces, plug-in integration, more filters, like clone&stamp, noise reduction and more. But no worries, the full-featured version for Windows arriving late in 2017 will have all of the above and more!
Maria Gordienko
@pavlo_pedenko go get it and let us know how you like it 😺
Arina Komarnitska
At last! Good luck, guys!
Maria Gordienko
@a_komarnitska thanks a lot! we've been waiting for it for sooo long too and it's finally here!
A.d. Wheeler
I have been using the Mac version for quite a while and love it. My workflow mainly takes place on the PC though. I am super happy to announce that the public beta launched today and I can finally have my Luminar where I need it most!! While the beta does not have all the feature set yet, it is absolutely functional and already in my workflow! Can't wait for Aurora and the final of Luminar!! This is big! #macphunfam
Maria Gordienko
@a_d_wheeler we love that you love Luminar! So happy you can now use it more often and thanks a million for your support!
Andrew Prifer
I understand that it is supposed to be less complex than Photoshop, but how does it compete with the value provided by other great software in the same price-range, e.g. Affinity Photo? Could you give me any pros and cons (aside from complexity)?
Maria Gordienko
@andrewpeterprifer thanks for the question, good one. The public beta of Luminar for Windows has only the most important features compared to the full-featured Mac version, which is more advanced, however, it already has Accent Filter, powered by the artificial intelligence, that takes images from good to great in a second by moving just one slider. None of other software has something similar. Moreover, Luminar is really very easy to use, not only compared to Photoshop, but also compared to Affinity Photo and others. Luminar is designed for any photographer – from those just starting out with photo processing all the way to professionals. So there is no need for beginners to look through hours of tutorials about photo editing, they can just open Luminar and get instant great results.
