It's like Product Hunt for nomad gear.

Pros:

All the best stuff for being productive and happy while staying mobile.

Cons:

It makes me spend the monies. :(

Hi Hunters! I didn't mean to hunt this, but someone else did it, so I thought why not 😁 🤔 Problem On Nomad List, we've had a chat channel called #gear. For the last few years, they've been discussing what's the best backpacks, laptops, sunglasses etc. for nomads. There's a running joke by @flowen_nl who will ask once in a while "did #gear find out what's the best backpack for nomads yet?", because the discussion around that never ends. 💡 Solution This site is a way to formalize that data. Using simple upvotes, we can figure out what's the most preferred products. This helps if you want to go work remotely any time soon as you'll be able to pick the right gear to go. That saves time and money spent on the wrong stuff. I generally believe that most product categories have one or two distinct "best products" and this site is already showing that. For nomads specifically, you want products that are minimal (so they can pack it small), (multi-)functional and durable (so it doesn't break). That means it can cost a bit more, but it has to be high quality stuff. Remember: nomads might spend $250 on a backpack which seems ridiculous. But that backpack is a bit like a normal person spending $500 on a couch. They LIVE from that backpack! High quality is important. ✨ Future Next things to add: product categories. Like a /gear/backpacks page to list all nomad backpacks for example. And maybe add a product to your own gear kit on your Nomad List profile. But that might make it too commercial and consumerist which I don't like... Also maybe sell a Nomad Bundle of laptop stand, backpack and a few other things as a starter kit and take a commission there to make some $$$ and help newbie nomads start off fast. I'd love to hear any ideas you might have. It's just a page for now, but could grow into more!

@flowen_nl @levelsio Adding the categories would definitely help. Also I would sort it slightly different, so gear that is newly added but is gaining upvotes fast is on the top of the list, instead of having always the same products on the top of the list that can never be beat because they have a million votes. My 2 cents

iPhone? MacBook Pro 15''? Apple Magic Keyboard? Google Chromecast? So we can put there probably anything. It's basically a list of some common products, after ~month using it by people (or not) it will present a stale data based on votes.
Raul Perțe
@jakub_pomykala I was thinking the same. I believe that presenting the products in a Top 10 could be more effective because products will reach the spotlight and people will be more interested in an Awesome Backpack #1 than iPhone 7 #1.
Jakub Pomykała
@perte exactly, I'm afraid that top 5 products will be the apple products.
levelsio
@jakub_pomykala Theoretically, yes. Practically, that's not really what's happening. A lot of the top products are essential for travelers, like the Bose Quiet Comfort 35 headphones that reduce noise when flying (nomads fly a lot!). The Roost Stand is the quintessential nomad product made popular by nomads. N26 and Revolut are new fintech banks that are built around the idea of international app-based banking: I've had incredible trouble with my old traditional banks since becoming nomad! Schwab is a bank for US citizens that has specific products for international travelers (like refunding ATM fees).
Jakub Pomykała
@levelsio Thanks for the reply I understand how important are that items which you mentioned, but we with @perte are talking about sorting and adding obvious items like apple keyboard, MacBook etc.

@levelsio Great idea, very useful! & even better if you give away an item a week. Maybe start with the nomad list membership ;-) #marketing

It's authentic because so many people have voted for verifying this data.

Some times the filters on the website don't work the way they should.
