Thanks for the explainer video, @karj! Ambitious vision! How do you think this will gain traction in the early days without a whole lot of content?
Eric Karjaluoto
@kunalslab Very, very, slowly. This is a bit of a chicken/egg problem and we’ve made it more difficult for ourselves by limiting post access to those we’ve approved. That said, we do have some members from the initial product (the one-on-one advice: https://officehours.io/advisors) so we’re not starting completely cold. We ran into a similar situation with the one-on-one advice aspect of OH. It was very challenging to get anyone to pay attention, at the outset. So, even getting the first dozen advisors signed-up was like pulling teeth. As such, it required me to reach out to people individually, and nudge them (often unsuccessfully) to give it a try. In time, though, folks started signing up on their own, and it started to move on its own. So, it’ll be a lot of legwork on my part, helping our members gain attention for what they’re doing, and coddling this along. In time, though, I think it’ll pick up its own momentum. I wish there were a more elegant way to approach this; but, community building is just hard.

Yay for trying to build a positive community, we certainly have currently a haternet problem we have to figure out :) There's something I quite don't get from your video : do you intend content on Officehours Streams to be initially published on it (thus making it some kind of social blogging platform), or do you want it to be mainly a stream of outside news that Officehours Streams community can comment on, as some kind of community layer on top of publication from broader internet?
Eric Karjaluoto
@oelmekki We suspect it will be a bit of a mix. Folks can post their content right in Streams, or, republish what they’ve posted elsewhere. I think it’ll just depend on the nature of their content. For example, I suspect questions are more likely to be posted once on OH, whereas, articles and product launches will likely be posted here and on other networks/services, too. In time, we’ll also allow folks to post links, which will (obviously) point externally, but allow for commenting within Officehours.

Great idea. Much looking forward to seeing this evolve.

@escapehatchco Thanks! We certainly have our work cut out for us. That said, I’m optimistic about where this could go.
