Very relevant to something we're building at Product Hunt. Your invite is coming soon, @daviswbaer! 😊
Davis Baer
@rrhoover Thanks for the feedback Ryan! Looking forward to the new Maker Space 😎
Haseeb Awan
Curious on what's the incentive for the proof readers ?
Davis Baer
@haseeb Hey Haseeb, good question. The proofreaders work on voluntary tips. If you think your proofreader did a good job and you want to say thanks, you can buy them a beer (or give any dollar amount you see fit).
Zayne
Awesome idea! I see a lot of coding blog/medium posts from people where English is not the first language and many of them end up having a lot of simple but noticeable grammatical errors throughout. Feel like this would be super helpful there.
Davis Baer
@zayneabraham Thanks Zayne! I had the same exact experience, which was the inspiration to build this :)
Nitesh Manav
Hey@daviswbaer This seems to be a great idea. Will surely check it out soon. Best wishes. :)
Davis Baer
@niteshmanav Thanks Nitesh!

@daviswbear If you create a subs service I def enroll. Maybe you should create something like monthly payment for 10 post up to 1000 words, another package can be 20 posts, and there is VIP package that whenever I publish something the proofreader gets notification from my blog and read it and fix it in a hour then send me back to corrected one. And I think you should also one time purchases like 10 posts-15 posts packages.
Davis Baer
@alleygirlcom Thanks for the feedback :) I think this could definitely become something like that in the future.
Davis Baer
@alleygirlcom Hey Betul, due to overwhelming demand, we have changed to a paid model. As of now, it is $0.02 per word edited.

Hello Product Hunt 👋 It seems like basically every startup, website, and business from all over the world has a blog nowadays - which is great! The problem: Many blog posts I come across are from non-native English speakers, writing a post in English. This sometimes leads to grammar and spelling mistakes that may diminish the credibility of the site with their potential customers. Oftentimes, it would only take a quick proofread by a native English speaker to prevent these mistakes, so I created this simple solution. **Can't I just ask a friend to proofread?** Of course! However, some people don't have any friends that are native English speakers. Also, some people don't have any friends at all :( **Why not just use something like Grammarly?** You can definitely use Grammarly, but I have found that it lets many errors slip through the cracks. In addition, Grammarly has limited functionality unless you pay.

@daviswbaer how do you apply to be a proofreader for their team since they’re overwhelmed? Writing and communications is my game and helping these guys out and being able to work on some unpaid research while I do would be awesome :)
Davis Baer
@prittyamazing Shoot me a DM on Twitter: https://twitter.com/daviswbaer :)
Pritesh Pillay
@daviswbaer Done. Additionally, please don't judge me based on my Twitter. I usually write behind the scenes so not particularly concerned about image. Which is fucking fabulous btw. I just tend to also talk to my alter egos profile sometimes and that might come off as crazy. She just needs some love.

@daviswbaer Hi Davis, I'm a tech startup founder and looking for professional proofreader for our company's product announcement blog. I see that this service is offline. Do you have any recommendations for a similar service? Thanks!
Srikanth Noah
love all your ideas <3 .
Davis Baer
@srikanth_noah Thanks Srikanth!
Matheus Guerra Costa

I believe It's ok for a company to pay for Grammarly. But this is not targeted for companies, and that's why it's so awesome! Keeping it on my Favorites bar ;)

Pros:

Easy to use, free, fast

Cons:

None so far

Davis Baer
Thanks for the feedback Matheus :)
Angelo Sorbello
Such a wonderful idea! Lord knows how much time I would have saved if this would have been up already years ago 😋
Davis Baer
@angelosorbello1 Thanks Angelo!
dmitrizzle
This seems great. Of course I like the idea because it's free. How do you plan to sustaining or scaling this service though? I'd imagine reading horrible English essays all day might not be your idea of a time well spent without being paid.
Davis Baer
@dmitrizzle Hey Dmitri, we changed to a paid service model with a price of $0.02 per word edited :)
Pedro J. Martínez
Such a great idea, Davis! Just bookmarked it. It's perfect for freelancers and idea validation. I'll try this out for future projects —if any—. If I find myself overusing this tool for landing pages and blog posts I'll have to tip you generously:P
Davis Baer
@inthe0n Thanks Pedro! Really appreciate the feedback :)
Esteban Morales
This sounds great! Will try it out and see if it helps me.

Sam Campbell

Received very helpful grammar edits to a presentation I am working on. Much appreciated and highly recommended!

Pros:

Quick turnaround and helpful grammar edits not caught by software

Cons:

None so far!

Davis Baer
Thanks for the feedback Sam!
Tang Hoong
I think is a good idea that have someone to review the post/website, especially in Asia here mostly people just direct translate their language to cater English user..
Davis Baer
@tanghoong Thanks Tang :)
Anna Filou
@tanghoong it's understandable when people do that but it buffles me when companies do it and you see otherwise serious websites with terrible English or product descriptions on sites like gearbest which barely make any sense. It looks like they don't even try to proofread, let alone looking for services like this or software like grammarly...😓
Davis Baer
@tanghoong @anna_0x Agreed Anna! That was the inspiration behind creating this. So many businesses would benefit immensely if they only had someone to proofread their website and blog posts.
Tang Hoong
@anna_0x Well, it always lack of resources. Not only english itself, others languages like mandarin, french etc etc do facing same issues.
Austin Fernald
I can’t even imagine the amount of free labor you are going to have to give from all the traffic from here. Great idea though 👍🏻
Davis Baer
@austinf Haha I have a few people helping me, so it's not too bad :)
Daron Bennett
I dig, I dig, I dig... And I dig for gold... this is GOLDEN.
Davis Baer
@daron_bennett Hahaha thanks Daron

Hi guys
Rick G.
I love 😍this idea and often have thought about how I'd like to help people out who could use a "second set of eyes". How can I become a proofreader for your service? Please advise!😎
Davis Baer
@hyyield63 Hey Rick, thanks for the offer! Shoot me a DM on Twitter: https://twitter.com/daviswbaer
Vlad Korobov
Proofreader abilities and some predesigned amounts of tips after the job done please. Also would be good to know what kind of proofread is. By the way we use https://www.servicescape.comso far and it is great from language editing point but from the meaning and interest of reading your service @daviswbaer could be great. @rrhoover 2 services of that kind is also better 🤓
Davis Baer
@rrhoover @vladkorobov Hey Vlad, if you found value in your proofreader, you are welcome to leave them a tip as a way of saying thanks. Tips range generally range from $1-$50, depending on number of words, number of edits, and level of helpfulness. As far as abilities, give it a try and let me know what you think. If you aren't happy with it, you are out a whopping $0.00 :)
