@kodjima33 Nik I'm excited to see this come to market. We have several ideas on where to leverage beyond notetaking.

@kodjima33 this looks awesome!!! I want one of these so bad. I can see the development opportunity of making a plugin for it too. Great job!

@kodjima33 Congrats on the launch of Friend Necklace, Nik! The idea of an open-source AI necklace that helps with memory and organization is fascinating. I'm especially interested in how it uses plugins to expand functionality. Could you share some unique use cases or interesting ways people are using Friend in their daily lives? Excited to see how this evolves!
Teresa Mendizabal

Honestly, after seeing products like Rabbit fails, people knew the limit of tech and their trust are lost. I think the open source is such a great way to build trust, and on-device could be great for enthusiasts and the team can still expand into cloud one day with a similar model to note taking software, etc. I think the open source, on device approach also solves a lot of concerns over privacy, but I think there are still a few things that need to be solve: - how to pause so if conversation shouldn't be recorded - third party asked or privacy law is involved - how to do the above automatically because the person is not aware that they can record voices around them - battery life Congrats on launching the product though @kodjima33 - it takes a lot of risk to build something that's quite controversial right now, but I like the approach ya'll took.

I was really hopeful about the rabbit and this gives me a lot of hope for personal AI. Great that you’ve gone the open source route! I really hope to use this.

Looking forward to trying it. It looks like it could be really useful. What languages does it support?

Amazing that it’s open-source!

As a side note: the visual design of the Friend looks amazing 🙌 From the capabilities side, I'm curious if it can replace AI note takers like Otter. It looks more like personal reminder divide, rather than a pure business use case.

@lisadziuba I'm a big writer so I use mine for all my IRL business meetings, coffee chats with friends, and walk & talks to remember ideas and quotes. It's extremely helpful at finding the hidden gems that I turn into tweets/blogs. I guess you could technically use it on Zoom calls and replace Otter, but you'd need to have your headphones off. I'd say it's just different use cases.

Huge congratulations 🎉 on the launch! Would you mind sharing how it actually works from the technical side?

🤩 Oh! Love the openource aspect here! Way to go 🚀 Especially when privacy is so crucial to get right with tech like this.

I've wanted an open-source device like this for so long, and now we finally have something really promising. So excited! Friend seems like it'll quickly live up to it's name, I hope to find time to contribute and help turn this into both an amazingly successful OSS project AND product.
