Thanks for hunting us, @rajiv_ayyangar! We’re so grateful for Product Hunt’s role in helping us find some of our very first customers back in 2018, so I’m super excited to be back in here with our API. For folks who are new to OpenPhone — @mahyarraissi and I set out to create a business phone system that you and your team actually love using. When we got started in 2018 there were lots of clunky solutions on the market that didn't meet the needs of modern teams. Today, we’ve handled over 1 billion calls and text messages for over 100,000 customers. OpenPhone is a lot more than just a phone system though: 🤝 Keep everyone aligned with shared phone numbers, which let teammates work together to seamlessly support customers. 🤖 Use AI to transcribe and summarize calls, provide next steps, and more. 📲 As your team grows, easily add new numbers and customize them to ensure callers get routed to the right place. 👥 Build stronger relationships with a mini CRM for your team’s contacts, complete with custom properties and notes. 🔌 And work more efficiently with automations, first-party integrations, and now custom integrations through our API. You can watch my colleague @rachel_boles who's the Product Manager behind this release give a quick demo of the API here -
If you'd like to get started, check out our docs - https://www.openphone.com/docs/a... This is just the start of OpenPhone as a platform for developers. We’d love to hear people’s feedback in the comments, or also feel free to email me directly: dk@openphone.com Thank you!

@rajiv_ayyangar @mahyarraissi @rachel_boles @darynakulya OpenPhone is an impressive app that seamlessly integrates calls, texts, and contacts across all devices, ensuring you never miss a customer!

You guys are great at adding new features but still have bugs that have not been resolved for 2 years. One of the main ones is "open conversations," which do not change their status and remain marked as a new message.
Juraj Pal
@jaceperry hi Jace! Mind emailing me at juraj@openphone.co? Would love to look into this for you.

Major milestone and step toward becoming a true platform company 🔗 I look forward to working with our partners and the developer community to bring more powerful integrations to market very soon! What integrations do you think we should prioritize first?
Daryna Kulya
@jurajpal so excited! Very special moment for our community :)
Vivek Trehan
This is dope. Can’t wait to use this for my personalized notification wake up alarm service app :)
Juraj Pal
@trehanv tell us more 👀
Mark Progano
This is amazing! I've been hoping you'd do an API And then add AI into and boom. Cannot wait to use this API for so many ideas. Thank you!
Juraj Pal
@mprogano thank you! What are you thinking about building with the API?
Rajiv Ayyangar
Despite more ways to get in touch than ever before, or maybe because of this plethora, phone calls and texts hold a special ability to cut through the noise. Phone numbers feel familiar, more direct than email and other messengers. As someone who's worked on creating internal connection in teams (Tandem) it's been exciting to follow the evolution of external, customer-facing comms. OpenPhone has long been an essential pillar of this stack, starting with business phone services, and expanding to more collaborative features. Many Product Hunt builders probably use OpenPhone — with the launch of their API, I'm curious what people will build!
Daryna Kulya
@rajiv_ayyangar spot on. Everyone has a phone number so it's the most universal communication channel and we're working on making it most delightful too :) Thanks so much for hunting us and I'm also excited to see what folks build with our API!
Nevena Sofranic
Great job @rachel_boles & team!

congrats @darynakulya and team! Love that OpenPhone is finally, officially, truly OPEN! Congrats on the API launch - this is huge for everyone from fast-growth startups to tech-forward SMBs to mom & pop shops that *get it* when it comes to best-in-class tech to run their businesses.
Jayesh Patel
The webhooks were great, but the api will be life changing for custom crm app.
Juraj Pal
@jayesh_patel9 thanks Jayesh!
Adi Patel
Great work OpenPhone team! @darynakulya what made you guys finally prioritize the API?
Daryna Kulya
@adi_patel hey Adi, great question. We've had folks asking for the API for a while now and it's been one of the top feature requests for our team. Also, we've had a lot of demand from partners wanting to build OP integrations so felt like this was the time :) We have a very diverse customer base and having an API allows us to serve them without sacrificing product simplicity. Maybe @jurajpal can elaborate on this too?
Adi Patel
@darynakulya awesome, might be interesting to build out an OP integration to pull transcripts as additional source of data point for teams that use OP for their customer conversations and want to pull out product feedback from there easily! Going to explore this further: https://www.openphone.com/docs/a...
Juraj Pal
@darynakulya @adi_patel love that, Adi! Let us know if you have any questions or feedback after you check out the docs.
David Safley
Very cool @darynakulya / @mahyarraissi - Congrats on shipping this will take OpenPhone to the next level!
Daryna Kulya
@mahyarraissi @netology thanks so much David!
Scar Qin
Congrats on the launch! Upvoted! It looks like the product allows teams to share calls via voice? Very creative product, especially convenient during conference calls.
Daryna Kulya
@scar_qin yep! you can have a shared phone number for calls and messages. let's say your team uses voice or SMS for support - you can have folks team up on responding to calls and messages from customers
Leo
I've been using OpenPhone for over 4 years now. While it’s not perfect, it's by far the best product out there. I've recommended it to many of my SMB clients and even customized a desk phone solution for one client who needed traditional phones for their employees. I’m confident OpenPhone will become the top B2C communication platform in the years to come !
Juraj Pal

My understanding is that you can obtain call content and SMS information through API, and then facilitate users to process the data? Can you briefly explain one of your most common usage scenarios? The video is 7 minutes long, which is too long.
Juraj Pal
@an_zuo hi An, thanks for the comment! Some of the most popular use cases for the API we're seeing are logging OpenPhone activity to CRM, triggering automated SMS messages, and keeping contacts in sync with your CRM. Let me us know if you have one in mind!
Huzaifa Shoukat
Always good to see companies giving more control to users. Can't wait to see what people build with this. 🙌
Christopher Sands
Our law office was completely transformed by OpenPhone a year ago. Now, we couldn't live without it. Top features we use: After-hours call routing, shared inboxes, call recordings & transcriptions... And now, the newly minted API lets us connect our entire NoCode stack to OpenPhone. Kudos for creating one of the best platforms on the planet, @darynakulya and @mahyarraissi. It's truly something special and I hope we keep growing with you, alongside all these amazing product updates. -Chris, CEO @ Hannon De Palma & Associates
Daryna Kulya
@mahyarraissi @christopher_sands Chris, we are so thankful for all your help and feedback since you've been a customer. Excited to keep growing together!
