Origin Protocol β€” Sharing economy built on blockchain

We empower developers and businesses to build decentralized marketplaces on the blockchain. Our protocol makes it easy to create and manage listings for the fractional usage of assets and services. Buyers and sellers can discover each other, browse listings, make bookings, leave ratings and reviews, and much more.

I've known @andrewhyde for a long time β€” and talking over this protocol with him got me excited. Seems like there's a lot of organic interest... could this be an effort that defeats the hype?

@chrismessina fun to see you and I grow over the years! I think this project lines up so well with your work with web decentralization + trust protocols building a strong community. I've learned a ton from you over the years on these themes. Thank you.

Fascinating idea. I've been thinking about this space and opportunity (short blog post).
Andrew Hyde
@rrhoover Thanks Ryan!

Just a concern @chrismessina , the product description is one for a notes app rather than the protocol... Wondering if that was intentional? πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰ The product looks awesome though!

@asingh2 hmm. Where did you see that? Maybe a bug?
Andrew Hyde
@chrismessina @asingh2 Hmm.. Not sure how that happened but fixed it!

Wow, @chrismessina this is truly what the sharing economy could be instead of a banner for corporates to (ab)use. Very well thought out, and are there any use cases yet? Will there be some forms of currency that users can trade or earn?
Josh Fraser
Thanks @chrismessina! I've been inspired by your work on open-source protocols for a long time. For those who are interested, we have a demo app live on the Rinkeby testnet. It's pretty cool demo of how the blockchain allows us to build marketplaces without any central servers or point of failure: https://demo.originprotocol.com Happy to answer any questions that folks have!

@chrismessina @joshfraser Checking out the demo now and having my first experience with the Brave browser and Metamask.io. Very cool!

Other co-founder of Origin Protocol here. Happy to answer any questions about our product and technology roadmap. Thanks for the hunt @chrismessina!

@chrismessina @matthewliu What will be the point of businesses building decentralised marketplaces, how will they make money?
Antonio Altamirano

The concept is sharp and the use case for hosts is crystal clear. Great work!

Pros:

Useful technology for end-users built in one of the strongest blockchains

Cons:

Keeping the technology open in the long run might prove to be a challenge

Massive potential! @andewhyde @joshfraser @matthewliu I'm sure there's room for several protocols in this space - however, I'm curious about the differentiation from a project like https://district0x.io - Looking forward to learning more about Origin!
Josh Fraser
@shannonleonard District0x seem to be focused mostly on community governance and voting systems, but don't have any concept of representing the fractional usage of assets and services on the blockchain which is our key differentiator. You can think of DNT a bit like Ning, where they are creating a bunch of separate networks, each with their own network effects. At Origin, we're trying to create something more like Facebook Connect where the network effects are shared across all of the marketplaces that are built on top of the Origin Protocol.

Love the product brief and idea behind origin-protocol.
Andrew Hyde
@kristjanfreyr Thanks! We are super excited to be building it. Check out the Demo DApp if you haven't already!

Super Cool!!!
