You may have heard the term Cohort-Based-Courses (CBCs) flying around the course creator circles recently (kudos to the folks at Maven for coining that term!). A Cohort is just a fancy word for a group of people going through an experience together, and they are nothing new IRL. Cohorts have been the defacto education model for centuries; however, group learning has been painfully absent from most online courses. Since Socrates's time, humans have learned through dialogue, discussion, friendly disagreement, and most importantly, by *working together* to produce great work. Most current online courses are not much more than a sequence of videos, documents, and maybe a few quiz questions that you have to muscle through by yourself. If all we needed to learn was a list of resources, the internet is enough. We have more than enough information; what we need is more community. We need peers to share the journey with, real-world projects with deadlines to keep us moving forward, and mentors who motivate us and give constructive feedback. We've supported Cohort-based courses in Pathwright since 2012. In fact, we've had 532k learners go through cohorts already, but until now, we haven't made it generally available for everyone. (Yeah, Cohorts may be one of the longest-running beta projects ever.) Today that changes. We've revamped cohorts to be even more powerful and are pleased to present them to you all today. Built dozen's of courses with this platform and love its clean, simple and intuitive interface; the ease of designing courses; it's student-centered approach to pedagogical design; and the variety of features that allow me to create multiple iterations (e.g. cohorts) all tied to the same master (Source). And the customer service is fantastic. I feel like we're friends now they are so helpful for all my questions and ways I use the tools to create unique experiences.
