Sway by PAUSE is an ‘interactive meditation’ experience. It uses your phone to track movement and provides feedback to help you gain focus and improve your attention.
It seems that meditation apps are the new to-do apps. Everyone's making one.
That said, PAUSE's approach is much different from the others I've seen. I'm interested to give it a try, especially since ustwo is behind it (they make rad things).
Wow this is exactly what I needed. I try to use Calm every morning and evening, and I love it, but it's too much of commitment to use in the middle of the day, and I only end up using at home in a quiet, dim room, no distractions, etc.
This allows me to get into the zone (albeit not as deep, but that's ok!) with the stressful hurdle of having to have the environment be perfect for meditation. I was instantly drawn into the experience, the colors and sounds are super calming, and when it told me to close my eyes I was really excited for this app. It not only tricks you into being able to take a quick mindfulness trip in the middle of the day, but the set up -- going from the physical / visual of tracing with your finger -- is perfect for putting you in the mood for a quick meditation session. I might even use this as a set up for Calm in the mornings.
Just played with Pause, this is fantastic. Instead of just a voice guiding you (such as Calm or Headspace) where it's still easy for your mind to wander, Pause gives your motor cortex something to focus on - I have to physically do something, albeit very minimal. Will be replacing Calm with Pause for a week or so to explore the difference it makes to my meditation.
@darrenux Yeah, this approach is unique and awesome. I really dig it (plus, I'm a real-time graphics and demoscene guy, so all of these marching squares makes my tummy tingle :) @millsustwo
It is really interesting to see how they translated their research into a product. I would love to see where they started and how many iterations it took before landing on this approach. Very unique.
Nice work @fredrikvvallin@millsustwo
I'm the cofounder of themindfulnesssummit.com which is live right now.
We're doing a mindfulness app day soon.
I tried Pause out and I really like it.
Hit me up, I'd like to tell our 220k mindfulness summit members about it.
there is something supremely unique about the interaction on this app. it feels slightly unnerving to be caressing my phone with my eyes closed, but once i let go of that feeling, it truly was calming.
Whenever ustwo creates anything I get excited. They're a talented team of devs and creators. Hope this comes to Android, but I know how ustwo feels about us folk. :(
Thank you for your question @gmiinko – Mindfulness and relaxation can be approached in different ways where breathing, focusing on your body and calming settings are important parts. For PAUSE, the difference is the interaction with the mobile screen and how that focused motion triggers physiological processes in our body and it's validated effects.
