@davidsfeng @ehsan_saeedi Thanks you David. Please keep in mind that GATE is not only an smart lock but has all the functionality of doorbell as well. It can be your eyes, your voice and your ears at the door. It will be your doorman. We have subscription with a very small fee if you want to have your videos to be stored for long time. otherwise all the functionalities come for free. Before battery dies, you get notification on your phone and that reminds you to charge your battery. You will will also see LED notification on the battery pod when the battery is low. On your app, you will be able to control of your gates at the same time.
@davidsfeng David, our lock will send an alert to your phone when the battery is starting to get low. The battery itself will blink an LED that is visible from the inside of your home to visually alert you of the battery status.
This product is an awesome combination of a smart doorbell and lock. Few questions:
It looks like automatic unlocking as you approach the door is not yet supported but is planned. What's the timeline for enabling this? Will it depend on Bluetooth?
Also, who are the delivery partners mentioned on the campaign?
@chanansw We do our best to deliver this option reliably to all of our indiegogo supporters. You will have the option of enabling this option or not when you receive the device. It will be based on Geofencing and image processing. Bluetooth is not reliable option as it can not detect if you are inside or outside of your home.

@imjasonli yes I'm aware of this, and it goes back to my original question why wasn't it included in the comparison slide, but I know the reason. I have followed friday as a backer for a while and it also has rechargeable battery ;)

To answer some common questions:
How is Gate different from August?
For August to have all the device functionalities of Gate, you will need to buy 4 products: The August Smart Lock, Doorbell Cam, Smart Keypad, and Connect. In total this costs $559 at retail, compared to Gate's $179 Indiegogo Super Early Bird ($299 retail). Rather than having to set up 4 separate products, Gate is a single device that takes only 4 minutes to install. Also, being one device, Gate is more reliable in that it would not have to talk to multiple pieces of hardware via bluetooth radio.
How is Gate different from Ring?
Ring is a camera doorbell that does not unlock the door. Gate has all the functionalities of Ring (Motion-activated camera, 2-way audio), as well as all its added capabilities including remote lock/unlock and pin access codes.
Does Gate integrate with ______________?
Gate directly connects to home Wifi, so no need for additional hubs or devices. Gate is able to work with other wifi-connected devices. Amazon Alexa is already Gate-compatible and other integrations such as HomeKit, Nest, IFTTT are on our product roadmap.
What is Gate's expected battery life?
4-months before needing a recharge. Note that the battery pack is also very easily swappable.

@calevans All data and video channels from Gate to home wifi router are fully encrypted, very similar to the encryption used in mobile banking. We use Wifi instead of bluetooth for setup, data transfers and lock/unlock, that is why you can remotely lock and unlock Gate.

Now one final hard question. Have you planned for what happens to the lock when (not if, when) you shut down the API. Wil you release the API's source code so that others can set it up? Will the device still be usable as a standard lock? Or will (as so many IoT devices are these days) simply be bricked and have to be replaced?
What is your plan?
@calevans @ehsan_saeedi if your Wi-Fi is down. The lock works as usual, all the sensors work. It only will not be able to be controlled remotely. your keypad will work as usual and you physical key will work as usual as well
I love that Bodega is in the video. Product looks pretty awesome! I'm going to try as an indoor, room lock.
Awesome product and value! I pledged yesterday already when I read about it on Techcrunch. I've been looking for a more perfect solution for my front door, but the Ring only provided the doorbell while this provides all the features in one unit.
I hope you guys can ship close to your estimate, that would be excellent!

My biggest concern with smart locks is that in the UK 95% of all front doors are multi point locks and almost all smart locks are single point locks. Because of this smart locks should be considered as an additional lock to your door and will only work for piece of mind use cases like "not sure whether I locked my door, let's lock my smart lock"
@j_mueller Thanks Joel. Yes, we have both physical keys and pin codes for entry. Pin codes are easy to understand for everybody and easy to use. Another great advantage of the code entry is for your guests and service providers, since they do not have to download Gate app to gain access.

Is there a timeline for this? I'm an Airbnb host with multiple rentals as well as consult other Airbnb hosts, and this factor would 100% convince me to buy several!
@marta_tessy We will have it by March or sooner. The software API is ready on our side, we need to do the hand shaking with airbnb API.
@jasondainter The current version does not have it (since at the time we were deciding on architecture iphone NFC was not open to 3rd party developers), but most likely we will have it in the next version.
@digitivinc Yes, it will be homekit enable via our backend. It is in the roadmap. Currently it is amazon echo compatible.
@ehsan_saeedi any plans for integrating Google Home? I know its early but it'll be a nice to have :). Also, is rekeying a possibility with Gate for all of us apartment dwellers? I'm not the biggest fan of the design but its super functional which is more of a plus to me. Good luck and you have a backer in me :).
@_theimmortal_ Thanks, we will integrate with Google Home in future. Gate is not re-keyable but hopefully you will not need it, since you can use codes and easily change them with your phone.
