Inventing the future with Hello, Dot Hi everyone, I’m Asim, Marketing, Brand, & Community Lead for Peridot and long-time member of Niantic. I’m very excited to celebrate the one-year anniversary of Peridot by sharing how we’re expanding the world of Peridot from the smartphone to future devices. You may be familiar with Peridot — which we launched here on Product Hunt last year! Today, we’re revealing a new experience from the Peridot franchise, “Hello, Dot”, an early mixed reality showcase we’ve been working on the past couple of months. If you have a Meta Quest 3, you’ll be able to try this experience now by downloading it directly from App Lab. Hello, Dot, takes the best parts of caring for your adorable Dot companions and brings them to life through the magic of mixed reality. In this immersive experience, you’ll be able to admire just how visually stunning your Dots are up close, and develop a special bond with them as you play together. Imagine being able to hook your hands under your Dot’s arms and pick them up – and then toss them up and let them float back down into your embrace. Or perhaps your favorite song is playing in the background and you want to have a little dance party with your Dot. The possibilities are endless and the joy you’ll feel is REAL. Like many of you, I dream for the day we’ll be able to see Dots by our side outdoors through true AR glasses. While that day isn’t here just yet, we’ll keep experimenting to invent for the future content and experiences we’d like to see come to life. We can't wait to see what you think of our newest experience, and we'd love your feedback to help us make Peridot even better. congratulations on the launch of hello, dot. transitioning from smartphone to mixed reality must have presented unique challenges and opportunities. could you share some insights on the biggest hurdles you overcame in adapting the peridot experience for mixed reality, and how user feedback from the past year influenced this new development?

Dot seems like an incredible leap into mixed reality! It's like having virtual pets right in your living room!

Played this game for about 30 minutes and had so much fun! The dots are so so cute and snuggly. I wanted to kiss and hug every single one! My kiddo played with the dots a little differently. He wanted to yeet them into the distance and paint bucket. Ah, kids. Can’t wait to see where this game goes. Would love a way to get my dots in the Oculus and play with them. I have some special ones I’d be ecstatic to see come to life. Great job team!

Super cute, and super fun. Great to see another release from the Niantic team, following their Peridot launch a year ago. Mixed reality continues to be an exciting environment to layer in AI-driven characters and narratives and to explore new social interactions between owners, their digital pets, and their human friends. Feels like more and more elements of Ready Player One are making their way into the consumersphere on a regular basis.
