Hey Product Hunt! Yaroslav here with Petcube. Proud to announce the official release of Petcube Bites treat cam. You can see, talk, play, and fling treats Angry-Birds style to your pup or kitty - from your phone. Play fetch, or just keep your pet’s tummy happy.
Check out our new video:
Designed for pet moms and dads, it’s good looking and has all the bells and whistles. Petcube Bites holds 2 pounds of treats and has built-in sensors to notify you when you’re running low on supply. We integrated Amazon Dash Replenishment, so you can easily reorder treats through the Petcube App. We’ve partnered with Wellness, so tasty sample treats are included.
As animal lovers, we support rescues and animal welfare causes. In fact, we just threw the largest rescue dog party this Saturday, together with SF SPCA. We donate our time, resources and cameras to support shelters across the country.
If you like what you see, get your Petcube Bites treat cam. Enter PRODUCTHUNT at Petcube.com and we’ll donate a portion of proceeds to SF SPCA.
Appreciate the upvotes! Hit me up with questions. I promise I won’t bite.
@jamierytlewski You are probably talking about our very first product, Petcube Camera, which didn't have night vision. In out current line of products, both Petcube Bites and Petcube Play have night vision and also work great in low-light conditions. They also got a much better, 1080p camera sensor along with a number of other improvements - huge leap forward compared to the original one.
@yo nice! Furbo is a very interesting product. How do you like it?
A couple things that are different, in no particular order:
1. Petcube is 1080p, Furbo is 720p
2. Furbo can only hold handful of treats, Petcube holds up to two pounds
3. Petcube senses when it's low on treats and you can re-order automatically via Amazon DRS
4. You can remove and wash Petcube treat holder, to ensure it remains clean and free of any harmful bacteria
5. In our tests, Furbo has a significant delay with the video stream. Petcube works like a video chat
6. In our tests, Furbo treat-dispensing mechanism jams quite often. Petcube doesn't jam
7. Petcube allows you to fling treats at different distances. Furbo only has one setting
8. You can share your Petcube with friends and family or make it public. You can also play with publicly shared pets on Petcube App. Don't think Furbo offers something similar
9. Petcube offers Petcube Care, a cloud video recording service which records and stores all the actions and sounds Petcube sees - both cute and troubling
10. I personally like Petcube's design better. But I'm biased :)
I'm sure there's more. Let me know what you think.
@livejamie You're right, this space is growing quickly. I have recently published an article on Entrepreneur.com about what's going on with Connected Pet and where is the Pet Care industry headed: https://www.entrepreneur.com/art...
The ones you named all are fair products.
I think the overall looks and quality hint at what is the fundamental difference here, but here are a couple things to highlight:
1. Petcube is 1080p, all the cameras you named are 720p
2. Those cameras can only hold handful of treats, Petcube holds up to two pounds
3. Petcube senses when it's low on treats and you can re-order automatically via Amazon DRS
4. You can remove and wash Petcube treat holder, to ensure it remains clean and free of any harmful bacteria
5. In our tests, all of those cameras had significant delays with the video stream. Petcube works like a video chat
6. In our tests, their treat-dispensing mechanism jams quite often. Petcube doesn't jam
7. Petcube allows you to fling treats at different distances. Other cameras only have one setting, either flinging or dropping the treat
8. You can share your Petcube with friends and family or make it public. You can also play with publicly shared pets on Petcube App. None of other cameras offer something similar
9. Petcube offers Petcube Care, a cloud video recording service which records and stores all the actions and sounds Petcube sees - both cute and troubling
10. I personally like Petcube's design way better and would much rather see it in my home than any other product in this category. But I'm biased :)
Also, speaking of the screen that allows your pet to see you - it's been scientifically proven pets don't recognize your image on the screen (for sure they can see something moving).
The closer you will look, the more you will see. It is just in attention to many details and making a product that is on par with some of the best technology products of our age, like smartphones and laptops. We don't see that attention in many other products for pet parents.
I'm sure there's more. Let me know what you think.
@cancom10 cats love it! In fact, with every Petcube Bites we're shipping Wellness Kittles cat treats - Salmon and Cranberries, good stuff :) https://www.amazon.com/Wellness-...
regarding the counter-top - if it's near the wall, it should be fine, as it's quite heavy and has a rubber pad on the bottom. You can also put it on some 3M tape if you don't want to drill the wall.
Recently started working with www.thehydropetcom, love startups helping animals thrive. Prob pretty cool to see in action, gonna have to get one for human treats too!
Five years time:
Pooch is lying on the pet psychiatrists couch (the only time pooch ever remembers being allowed to sit on the couch), pining, "sure, my owners played with me, they got me to play fetch, and chase food around the house, they spoke to me, but they were never there for me. Everything they did was through that camera!"
@coelmay haha ) Hope that doesn't happen to anyone :)
"You're a bad pet parent if you only talk to your pet through the camera" is a common concern, but in reality - Petcube just extends your communication capabilities, not replaces the "old way". The same way phones never replaced live conversations.
Lovely looking website, and a great looking product. Do you have protection against downtime? I've seen other pet tech suffer server outage and pets go without treats. (The horror!)
@theashtube good point! Important detail - Petcube Bites is not a pet feeder and shouldn't replace proper lunches and dinners for your pet :) But yes, we have also witnessed that horror story with another product and took double measures to ensure that never happens to us.
