I'm a big fan of tools like these to get an outside perspective. Many makers/founders are too close to the problem and solution to see through the eyes of a new user. How are you finding testers (or whatever you call them), @billychasen? IMO, it's super important to find people that fit one's target demo otherwise the feedback might be useless or distracting.
Billy Chasen
@rrhoover Thanks Ryan! I totally agree ...I've been on teams (and on my own) that wait too late to get outside opinions. This ultimately costs time and money and sometimes can kill an entire project. Pickle respondents are online survey takers (similar to google surveys). While you currently can't pick a demo, you do get basic demo information back in your data and can slice it to get deeper insights. I do feel it's important to start broad, sometimes even the assumptions we make on target audience are wrong (e.g. during turntable days we thought it would mostly be kids but ended up resonating more with people wanting music at work).

How do you feel about pickles on pizza?

Hey PH! As a serial founder myself, I always crave more feedback during my idea and design process. Current research sites are too expensive and cumbersome to use, so I cooked this up! It's dead simple to use and much cheaper (comparatively, 200 responses from surveymonkey is $3,500 compared to pickle's $20). I'm opening up the beta for you all, just use invite code: producthunt Thanks and I'd love any feedback!

@billychasen love that there's a plugin for Sketch. Does it also retrieve the answer in context too? And what's the turnaround time?
Billy Chasen
@chrismessina thanks! I could definitely add that in. I was a bit worried about muddying up a design, but maybe I can make it a hidden layer. Currently, you select the layers you'd like to compare and submit, then get results via email.

@billychasen keeping it within Sketch would be super cool!

@billychasen Curious to know how you are getting $3500 for 200 responses from SM? Buying audience on SM is based on the screening options you select. Gen pop has been $1 per head for years. $20 is still a lot less expensive... but the real cost of SM for gen pop n=200 is $200 (plus what plan you choose, starting at $25/mo).

Was going to throw some $$ to give it a go and got a 500 error when I click 'Pay'. I like idea though!
Billy Chasen
@danielctuttle Hey Daniel -- that's weird, can you try again and if you get an error, screenshot and email it to me? billy@pickle.run
Billy Chasen
@danielctuttle actually I dug in on the Stripe side and it said your security code was incorrect. I need to handle that error better!

Simple, practical, useful. I also love the name choice of Pickle.. kind of teleological, as Pickle is a place for people with pickles. Fun. Question for you ?makers -- I can see myself using this in the near future for sure. Does Pickle support asking for opinions on apps or websites? Also... brief tangent, the site says you're 100x cheaper than your competitors. My partner and I have used these competitors in the past lots. I'm super happy to try an alternative (and so are me pockets), but the cost subsequently makes me wonder what I may be losing out on by going with such a cheaper option. "How are these respondents vetted?", "Are they appropriately paid?", "Will they be rushing through my questions?" Sounds like the Pickle respondents are the actual product that you're selling us, but then I realize, I don't know anything about them. Giving us more info on the respondents would build a lot of additional purchase-confidence for potential customers, I think! :D Best of luck! Looking forward to checking it out for myself in a few months.
Billy Chasen
@felecia_genet Thanks! You can ask either a text or image question. Meaning, you post a question and submit two or more text responses or images. So for an app, you can submit screenshots. Good question on the cheaper. So we are actually just removing all the layers of padding in the price that a big company requires (vs just me). The end survey user is getting paid the same as these big companies. Competitors just have higher margins to support their "lifestyle" :D

Cool! So happy to have found this!
