@etiene_dalcol Polygloss is one of the few apps I've ever paid for. Part of the reason actually is that I did not feel pressured to do so. On the other hand, it is so great that I guess I'd pay even if I was forced to do so, albeit probably more reluctantly. I second what has been said already: I've also never run out of points and it would have been ok if I did and felt a bit more pressure to pay.

I just found this app today and lost a chunk of my day playing it, it is super well done and I cannot wait to see its continued growth, I already signed on for life and I am cheap lol I love that I get to be creative with my sentences and I can challenge myself as much or as little as I want to. Some peoples clues are really funny and it encourages me to not only think in Spanish, but to do so with creative flair because it engages my intense need to try and be funny or clever with my hints lol Check it out, there are many different price points including free.
Etiene Dalcol
@jayde_m Hi Jayde! I'm really happy you found us today and I deeply appreciate the support ๐Ÿ’– First sale of the day ๐ŸŽ‰

@etiene_dalcol I hope some of my language friends will become more sales for you soon! :D keep up the great work.

I'm one of the Welsh learners on Polygloss - there are lots of us, many migrated from DuoLingo I think. It's dead easy to use, and 'addictive' but in a good way - there's no pressure, you just feel stimulated to keep using it, writing something in your target language to keep the conversations flowing (you earn a 'reward' if someone else appreciates your creativity). And it also feels good to pay back by helping those less fluent, if they make an error.
Etiene Dalcol
@ozaru Thank you for the support, Ben! Yes, I was really surprised then a big flock of players learning Welsh joined. It feels amazing to work on a product that helps people learn languages going through a revitalization process. Quick question, what do you think of the balance between free and paid features?
Ben Jones
@etiene_dalcol To be honest, from a commercial (long-term sustainability) perspective, I think there's not enough incentive to pay, i.e. too much is free - I was happily using it for months, never ran out of points, no clear 'must have' benefit to becoming a paid member. This was ironically one of the reasons I eventually paid... I was worried you might not get enough paid members to keep it going! If you now tell happy users "from next month you'll have to pay for X" you'll alienate them, so I guess you'll just have to add some 'paid user only' features... trouble is, I can't think of much that's missing from the app currently! I do have a few ideas but am unsure if PH is the best place for suggestions; maybe Slack? (But my invitation has expired.)
Etiene Dalcol
@ozaru send me an email and i'll send you another invitation!

I'm so impressed by the continuous growth and development of the app. If anyone is yet to try it, the absolute highlight for me is the design of the app, that supports any language, also languages with low-resources that are spoken by smaller communities and that are traditionally excluded from the bigger apps out there. It also attends to the gap between language comprehension and production, which anyone who has ever tried to learn a language knows that it is the biggest chasm to cross. I learn Italian and perfect my German thought it, as well as check periodically if anyone is learning Macedonian to correct their input or pair with them.
Etiene Dalcol
@tamara_atanasoska Thanks for the support, Tamara. It means a lot! Making it accessible to minority languages is really important to me ๐Ÿ’–

Polygloss is a fantastic tool for language learning. It is a fun and amazing way to connect with native speakers and immerse yourself in the language all without leaving your home. The app is intuitive and easy to use making it the perfect way to learn a new language. I canโ€™t recommend it enough!
Etiene Dalcol
@madfoosa Thank you for the support, Chris! Quick question, what do you think of the balance between free and paid features?

In my opinion, this application is quite useful for practising and improving your language skills. It consists of trying to describe what you see in a picture so that someone else can find out what you are talking about and give you feedback on your mistakes. In this way, you will get used to the grammar of a language to build more natural sounding sentences and improve your vocabulary. You can describe the things you see by writing, which is a free feature, or by speaking, which is a premium feature. And although it is a premium feature, you can use it for free if you are paired with a premium user. Also, the premium option seems pretty cheap to me. As a way to encourage players to keep learning, there is the option to send rewards to the person you are playing with and let them know what you think of the phrase (if it's funny, if you think it's very creative or some other things). With this app you can practise any language, which I find quite interesting and useful, as most apps are limited to just a few. All in all, it is a useful app with which you can improve your language skills in any language for free (or cheaply, if you choose the premium option).

I have found out about Polygloss in 2020 while watching a youtube video about apps to learn English. I knew the app's idea was amazing when I heard it. Then, I downloaded it and started playing a lot, told all my friends about it. It is pretty easy to get hooked because the more you write the more you earn stars (the game environment works quite well). Also, the practice of vocabulary on the game made my English level go up significantly. Etiene is a humble founder that appreciates feedback from the users, so the game is always improving. I'm glad to see the project has evolved so much.

Polygloss is a fantastic way to practice a language in a natural, fun way when you already know some basic grammar and vocabulary! It's free and useful for intermediate and more advanced learners who don't need something like Duolingo to teach them the basics!

@uniqueusername Thank you for the support, Angel ๐Ÿ’–

I'm using Polygloss to improve my English and Spanish skills. Polygloss is easy to play and we can take help from other players. The most interesting thing is that with it we work on the most important point of learning a new language: communication.
Etiene Dalcol
@amanda_maria1 Thank you for the support, Amanda! Quick question, what do you think of the points / star system to unlock new topics?
Zizim
Definitely a fan of the app and it's unique approach to practicing a language. One of the few language apps that fully supports Welsh which is what I've been looking for for so long
Brian Sullivan
I am really enjoying how this app works and how different it is from the other apps out there. Itโ€™s a great way to practice creating sentences in the language youโ€™re learning and a great way to learn new, interesting words either through looking up words you want to use or from other users. Itโ€™s such an awesome concept and fun challenge.
Heleny
I was expecting something underwhelming, but this is so much fun and exciting! THIS is what I wanted! Forcing you to create sentences and making it fun. Also, major props to the developers: I don't live in the USA (which I presume is where they're from), and it gave me the option to pay for the app in my local currency, but more than that: it's affordable to me. It's actually affordable to me. I'm flabbergasted, honestly. It truly looks and feels like a project that's very loved. I'll give it another few days, but I'll probably pay for this and I can't wait to see what other ideas you guys will have. Thank you!
Etiene Dalcol
@helenee thanks for such a nice comment, Heleny! I am based in Spain, not the USA :) Out of curiosity, may I ask in which country are you based?
Heleny
@etiene_dalcol that's even more impressive Etiene! I live in Brazil and currently 1โ‚ฌ = R$5,37, so I wouldn't be able to consider paying for it. As it is though, I'm paying for the yearly subscription. Wishing you all the best :)
