I've been subscribed to Poncho's weather emails for a while because of the cute branding and witty copy.
That said, some might claim weather reporting a commodity. Beyond the mobile app, what are your next plans, @huangkuan?
@rrhoover Here are my answers:
- When I am in a "Pitching VC" mode: Poncho is the next generation media company that creates emotional thin content for notification and messaging platforms.
- When I am in a "hacker" mode: I just want every goddamn startup to put a cat in their logo (well done product hunt!).
But in all seriousness, we have a blog post about the app and company vision. It's absolutely worth your 5 minutes to read:

This is a very clean app. Nice work!
I noticed one thing missing. At the alarm screen, I would really like to know the exact length of sleep I set my alarm for. I don't like being forced to do the math manually.
Cheers! ๐ธ
@huangkuan Been following Poncho for a long time now. Love adding personality to weather. Always fantasized about building an app that would alert you to go outside for a breather when the forecast shows the weather is at its best within the next 5 minutes. Just an idea you may find interesting. Anyway, good luck!
I'm probably Poncho's worst user -- I don't live in the US atm, but still love checking my inbox for the emails, and now the app :)
So until they let weather cats on flights to Japan, I'll be using for the cute alarm and for keeping up with memes in the morning.
You can read the full story behind the new app here:

Hope you like it. Android coming soon, more countries coming soon....
While I do understand why this is popular with PHers, and I agree it's cute and clearly much time was put into it by the authors, I want my weather app to do one thing, and to do that one thing well: weather. I prefer a 'super user' style weather app that gives as much detail and as many views as possible. I can think of a number of ways to get notified about rain but in the SF microclimates, stepping outside is ๐part of my calculation. It was a free app so no harm no foul. Hopefully the community finds my criticism constructive.
I'm sure you all know my lost love for weather apps...but Poncho is different. It's as if there is a personality behind the cat.
The team know it's a weather app and I'm sure it's as accurate as others. But the fact that it puts a playful spin on itself as if not taking itself so seriously appeals to me more than 'just another weather app'
