Congrats, this looks fantastic! To this day, I still get a knee-jerk reaction to magnetic anything near my electronics even though I know everything has gone solid state. Was this something you wanted to do 10 years ago but couldn't because storage was magnetic? I may be imagining but I feel that you couldn't get a strong magnet within 100 feet of an IT guy 10 years ago. If so, kudos on making it through the other end of the storage wars!
@junesix It is true that many people still have that feeling about magnets but as you said, the world is changing and most of our devices have SSD's now so they are mostly safe. The idea for the magnet was really about how to make it universal so that we don't only make a case for Apple buds for instance. I have a lot of magnets lying around the studio and there's always something magical about them so it's great to put them to good use in a product. I personally really like the metal/chrome contrast detail it adds to the silicone. It gives it a nice weight and feels good on the fingers too when you're unrolling it.
@gudabu It was really designed for headphones with 3.5mm headphone jacks (for portable devices) so most of those fit just fine. The "L" shaped ones might be a bit more bulky but should still squeeze in OK. The huge pro heaphone jacks won't fit.
@imonmymac I tried to make it as universal as possible so that we're not affected by such changes.. The magnetic center for instance will work with every headphone type since they all have magnets in them.
@michaeltmarion Thanks! I actually use one with my MBP charger as well. It's great and the MagSafe connector actually holds onto the magnet in the center as well.
Looks very nice. However, I am averse to adding another thing in my pocket. Would have also liked if the design incorporated the factor of the yoyo staying part of the headphones i.e. not keeping it separately. I most like will misplace it.
I've always found that the microphone causes a lot of problems with products like this. Either the cable starts to split where it enters the microphone controller, or the controller housing itself starts to break open :/
Putting a magnet in the centre is a neat idea though π
