Hi Product Hunt! We love making products that are simple, easy-to-use, and helpful so feel free to give us feedback on how to make the extension even better for you!
Alyssa Caulley
Just wanted to let folks know that @simplrdesign is *the best* listener and has no ego about products she designs. She will kill an idea she loves and move on based on feedback better than anyone I know (even though her designs and ideas are wonderful :D). So feel free to send her questions, thoughts, advice, whatever!

We're adding this a little late today because I didn't think we'd get it done in time, but kudos to my son who taught me how to use Final Cut Pro last night. ๐ŸŽฌ We added 2 video chats with Primary users in the gallery โ€“ 1 with Jhonathan, and 1 with Mike โ€“ that they've given us permission to share with the Product Hunt community. They're longer (5-7 min.) but fun. Enjoy while backing up your old iPhone! ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿ“ฑ

Hi, Product Hunt! ๐Ÿ‘‹ We're Threadloom, the makers of Primary. We're excited to launch with you today! ๐Ÿš€ Primary takes unfiltered, raw product reviews buried deep in forums across the web, and brings them to shoppers in a free and easy-to-use browser extension. Hereโ€™s why we're doing this: (1) Product reviews are unreliable, and (2) shoppers want to shop without being sold to. Primary casually pops up in your browser (think Honey) with real reviews from enthusiasts who tell it like it is โ€“ the good, the bad, and the ugly. This helps shoppers make the best purchase decision, saving them time & money. โฑ๏ธ๐Ÿ’ฐ Primary currently works on 225 categories on Amazon and eBay (mostly hard goods, i.e., not yet media or soft goods/apparel), and 300 additional retail sites. We look forward to your feedback. Thanks! ๐Ÿ™

Hi Product Hunt, we are excited to make your online shopping experiencie the best experience ever providing user comments and reviews about the product you want to buy or want to know more. Looking forward to see all the feedbacks :)

Primary is a very pleasant to use extension that gives you the oportunity to get real user reviews from foruns and reddit users on specific music gear that you're planning to buy. From my perspective it helped a lot because frequently the gear isn't available to be tested in person, and having the oportunity to read these reviews is the next best thing after testing them for yourself, on my opinion. That said, of course you could just do your research manually, but in my experience using Primary saved me a lot of time and led me straight to useful data about what I was planning to buy, saving me some hours of googling and forum/reddit searching. In the end I already got a new guitar with Primary's help, and I'm very happy with it!
Alyssa Caulley
@liordino Wow, what a great story. Helping people make the best decision for themselves while saving time was a big part of our brainstorming at the beginning of this product. It's fun to see that realized!
Timothy Chan
@liordino It's great to hear this has helped you acquire a new guitar! As a software developer on Primary and also a bass player and sound engineer, we have seen and have been amazed at how much helpful and valuable discussions about music gear is out there, and I'm so happy we could help pass that on to you :)
Liordino dos Santos Rocha Neto
@ahtimsir yeah, there's a lot of discussions online, and my personal opinion is that if one day we suffered for the lack of information, now we suffer for information overload, and not all information is good, so it's really nice to have something to help curate these things faster.
Karen L
Nice! I looked up those minimalist Dyson vacuum cleaners, and a post in Primary's view reminded me that I could just eliminate the chore by getting a Roomba instead. Thanks for making me smarter, internets + Primary!
Raquel Romano
@kalinear Glad we could make your decision easy! Some of the best forum discussions I've read are people asking, "Should I get X or Y given my situation?", and the community chimes in with all sorts of relevant advice.

When I am shopping on Amazon, I love how Primary helps me find other product info and reviews across the web.

Finally, a little help finding trusted USER reviews before making purchases!! Thank you. I'm wondering how you guys came up with the name Primary :-)
Alyssa Caulley
@nldodoo We couldn't completely remember who originally came up with the name (edit: I stand corrected, it was @simplrdesign !), but the idea behind it is going straight to primary sources (firsthand experiences) rather than all of the other noise on the internet (paid ads / paid reviews / ...). And it's easier to say than "Threadloom". :D
Sam Carow
I LOVE this idea -- I always have to google reddit reviews about the skincare products I want to purchase, and those reviews get buried DEEP.
Alyssa Caulley
@sam_carow I swear the gold is always on like page 10 of a forum thread, ha. It's such a delight to bring things to the surface that are so thoughtful, but so buried like you said. Thanks for the comment!
Daniel Sanchez
Hello Product Hunt! We're so excited to share Primary with you all and hope that it can provide a more streamlined researching experience for your online shopping. Please feel encouraged to leave feedback at any time, we're eager to hear what the community has to say. Thank you! ๐Ÿ™

Hi, Product Hunt! I'm a PM on the Threadloom team. We're excited to share Primary with you and look forward to your feedback. I had a blast working on this product and hunting through forums in search of the most useful product reviews I could find.
Raquel Romano
Hello from the Primary team! We're hoping to bring the value of forums to people's every day lives. It's exciting to hear from users who are finding Primary useful--looking forward to hearing more of your feedback!
Marek Dudas
Great idea! Could it work for apps also? Like I am checking out, say, various SaaS solutions and it would load Reddit comments about it?
Paul Lee
@marek_dudas SaaS solutions is an interesting use case. Our long-term vision is that it would work for anything that is subjective, and that is discussed in communities.
Greg H
Great product made by a great team. Primary sifts through forums and reddit for the best information about music gear. It really goes beyond star reviews I can't wait to see this expanded to other categories.
Alex Wilsey
@_gh_ Hang tight, we're expanding our list of supported categories daily. It's a tricky problem because each category/interest presents a new challenge. We're constantly iterating to try and learn how users discuss different types of products.
Tim Liu
I wish I had this when I was scouring forums over a decade ago when I was building up my guitar gear collection.
Paul Lee
@tim_liu3 Even Loki can't go back in time, but there's always the future ... or some version of it.
Alyssa Caulley
Hi Product Hunt! I'm on the engineering team here at Threadloom. It's been very fun to build, and even more fun to hear from folks who find it helpful. I'm excited to share it here and listen to feedback from y'all!
Paul Lee
PH, @alyssa_c123 runs the engine room here, so if you have any questions about how the eng team works here, feel free to ask her.
Ben Choi
Primary does for me what usually takes a lot of hunting around on forums and the backpages of google search results. A really great tool to get the info I need for considered purchases!
Paul Lee
@benjichoi Thanks for the feedback!
paul jung
Great idea-- surprised nobody has thought of doing this before!
Raquel Romano
@paul_jung Right?? We keep asking ourselves that too.
Robert Gailey
This is a great resource for shoppers and I am so grateful it is now available. This tool helps shoppers sift through so much information to gain access to valuable information to inform one's purchases.
Ellen Choi
Seems super useful, it's hard to get real info these days.
Paul Lee
@lnchoi Yeah, it's a head shaker. The tools get smarter, but because of the prevailing business models and associated focus, it's increasingly harder to find authentic info when it should be getting easier.
