We're launching a new set of product category pages, which combine our Shoutouts data (which products are loved by the top builders) and Product Landscape articles written by top founders who are experts in their fields.
Product Hunt is indispensable as the place to see what's new, but with the introduction of Shoutouts (the products that power top launches), Product Hunt now has an incredible dataset of which products are most loved (20,000 Shoutouts and counting).
But the data is only a piece of the puzzle — to really make a call on which product to try or buy, you need to understand that product's category. We asked ourselves: Who are the absolute best people to paint the landscape of a product category. More often than not, they're active founders.
We asked them if they'd be up for making a truly exceptional product landscape overview - not the SEO grift that's so common. They over-delivered.
Our inaugural set of Product Landscapes:
Data Analysis - Barry McCardel (CEO of Hex) @barrald
Security and Compliance - Christina Cacioppo (CEO of Vanta) @christinacaci
AI Infra - Kwindla Kramer (CEO of Daily) @kwindla
SEO Tools - Nate Matherson (CEO of Positional) @nate_matherson2
Video Conferencing - me! (former CEO of Tandem)
Notion Templates - Ben Lang (former growth at Notion) @benln
Hiring Software - Max Kolysh (CEO at Dover) @max_kolysh
Online Banking - Immad Akhund (CEO at Mercury) @immad
AI Databases - Davit Buniatyan (CEO at Activeloop) @david_buniatyan
AI Notetakers - Richard White (CEO at Fathom) @richard_white
Check them out, send them to a friend who's looking into one of these categories, and let us know what you think!
I guess this brings an additional layer to what products ppl should try and the fact that it is backed by data is awesome.
Great work team - love the new features and the shipping cadence from PH team!
Do I get kittens coins by supporting the launch directly operated by the one and only product hunt? 😹 JK love it, looking forward to more features in future!
This is an impressive initiative, Rajiv! Having insights from top founders will definitely add a lot of value. How did you decide on the categories to start with?
It's really insightful to know the most promising products and what the founders think about them! I found SEO tool helpful for me since I'm working on SEO content. But one question: whether all the products will be categorized into the landscape? Can there be a more detailed categories? Look forward to your reply!
@rajiv_ayyangar I want to explore efficiency managing tools, like arranging tasks for team members, tracking everyday tasks and habits, or marketing tools!
Congratulations on this launch. Something very different from what we generally see here. Do you plan to expand into other tech categories? And what about international markets?
It's very well crafted, I like it. Lots of info at hands, and the landscape overviews can become really useful also when one has to choose the right category for their product, at launch settings.
I have a couple of questions:
- How is the products ranking calculated? I see products with a higher review score ranking below products with a lower one; same for shoutouts number.
- How are you going to secure freshness of landscape overviews? Technology runs fast, and today's overview might be obsolete tomorrow. It would be nice if overviews were attached to a discussions thread were the community can contribute.
Great job!
@kyrylosilin good question. we opted to have builders in the category write the articles because, though they may have a horse in the race, the information provided will be much more helpful to other builders.
@rajiv_ayyangar Good update Rajiv. May help the website from the SEO standpoint as well as help the users pick the right tools recommended by experts. :)
