Hi Hunters! 👋
Rustem here, founder of Raindrop.io. I'm super excited to launch Raindrop.io 5.0 today, the all-in-one bookmark manager that become even better. 🚀
So why Raindrop.io?
It just does everything you expect from a modern bookmark manager: collections, tags, filters, multiple views, instant previews, full-text search, permanent copies, integrations, sharing and collaboration and apps for almost any device and OS.
I’m working on this project alone for the past 7 years already (OMG…) I’m not an evil corporation, I don’t have any funding. The project is fully bootstrapped and independent. I don’t sell data, all income come from paid subscriptions.
What’s New in Raindrop.io 5.0?🧐
I've made a ton of progress since the Raindrop.io 3.0 launch. Below are some highlights from the past year of progress. Read more on blog!
Full-Text Search & Permanent Library
Entire content of every web-page and PDF that you’ve saved is fully searchable.
Even if a page you’ve saved is taken down, you’ll still have a copy of it.
IFTTT & Zapier integration
You can connect to more than 2,000 apps and do integrations like automatic saving of your favorite Youtube videos, ProductHunt upvotes, Slack messages or create new record in Google Spreadsheet when you bookmark new item.
Public API
Hack, integrate and extend Raindrop.io. All our functionality is available programmatically through simple API. This made possible to create Alfred app integration (from you can search your bookmarks) or integrate with popular RSS readers.
Fast response to support tickets
Many complains have been when I launched last time about bad support. No more! You can expect fast response and quick bug fixes.
Other improvements, briefly
* Search as you type
* Bulk operations with collections (remove/merge)
* More customizations: fine tune each view mode (grid, list, masonry, headlines); change buttons and behavior of click on a bookmark; thumbnail size and position
* New nested folders view
* Recent tags
* Multiline descriptions
* Open all bookmarks in one click
* More filters: documents, audios, broken and duplicate links
* Huge performance improvements thanks to extensive caching and optimizations
Enjoy and let me know what you think.
Raindrop.io is free to use indefinitely with no limits. The paid tier is completely optional were I offer additional features.
@exentrich loving the new release, been using Raindrop PRO for the last two years and could not think of anything else that would replace it. Now I am really hoping that the iOS/iPadOS apps will get the same treatment? I especially would love to see drag and drop support for items from Inbox to folders on iPadOS.
@exentrich does this have the ability to work on desktop as well? In other words, it would be awesome to have it on my iPhone and Mac so I can bounce back and forth.
This is a really neat feature!
Chrome bookmarks are so messy, takes too much effort and memory to keep track. I will definitely try the extension :)
Just a quick question: you say the data are not sold but are they stored only locally or do you retrieve them nevertheless?
Anyway congrats on the launch guys! ;)
@merlin_laffitte Moreover Chrome force you to use they browser to get your bookmarks. Not good, bookmarks should be free and accessible from any device/browser :)
Data is stored in cloud on Amazon servers secured behind a VPC. Data synced only through SSL.
@exentrich@merlin_laffitte Hey Merlin, could you be thinking that this is an offline local bookmark management tool? I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out what you mean by "stored only locally."
Since this tool makes our bookmarks available to us from any device, each bookmark is stored in a database on a server. So, whether you use the mobile app, the browser plugin, or even the really cool API you can get your bookmarks all the same.
@exentrich@zabby hey Zabby, you're completely right about that. I undervalued the importance of sharing bookmarks between devices. I was just thinking about the neat feature of searchable | easy to use bookmarks.
Totally get it thanks to your remark! Thanks :)
Best of besties is better than before...
I think this app is a heroic thing for a one person... Big teams are not as successfull as one person, this is incredible thing...
Thank you so much for your special efforts on this app, @exentrich
@okcknet Thank you so much! Work alone on a project is a bit hard some time.. and slow :) Plan to hire more people next year, at this point revenue allow to start this chapter
It's impressive with one single developer how he managed to stay in the market so many years and still offer a very good product for the users. It's very inspiring for entrepreneurs to read his story. I read it today and my day it's better. Thanks.
@joblink The perspective that I can eventually leave my main job and work on my own project, where I can independently decided what to do and how to do have always been my main motivation. This took 5 years to achieve. I never been happier this day :)
Side-project is always good idea ))
I've been following the product from v1.5 and the progress of this one-man-app is absolutely amazing and really something to be proud of. Congratulations!
I love Raindrop.io and I have for years now. It's well worth the small pro fee and Rustem deserves every penny for this fabulous app. It really is THAT good, and with the new release it's even better!
@ninthart Thank you so much! Not everything have always been smooth in the past years, and great to know that so many people still using app and support!
Just bought Raindrop annual subscription a few hours before the release of this version. I am already loving it!! @exentrich It is a lovely product dude. Please keep it up.
Great list of updates!
Raindrop continues to be the best bookmarking tool on the web 💪
I am only missing one thing…
I have a collection with just uploaded pictures and at the time the images are displayed in the top left corner on a white background - which isn't very easy on the eyes.
I would prefer to have the image in the center with a black background (especially in darkmode). Also would be nice to have a preview for images which opens a lighbox with the option to cycle through with ⟵ left and ⟶ right keym and maybe zoom it (for large images).
Just a thought ^^
@exentrich Thank you Rustem for this awesome and very useful tool!
I am using Raindrop since a few years now and I can't imagine how i should surf the web without using it! Give it a try, I am shure you won't regret it!
Can this be used as a replacement for Pocket?
And is there any timed reminder feature? For example, say I save a bookmark and I want to be reminded about it at a set time. Is that possible?
