👋 Hey Product Hunt, great to to re-meet you! And thank you @chrismessina for the hunt! ❤️ When we launched Remotion 1.0 on Product Hunt, it was a tool for remote productivity. We'd only tested with ~10 teams and we were nervous about not being ready. But the Product Hunt community was amazing: your thoughtful feedback helped us build conviction with investors, and we ended up raising $13MM. It wouldn't have happened without you. Thank you! 🤔 However, we also needed to adjust: people don't love Remotion because it makes them more "productive." Instead... People love Remotion because it helps them feel like they're together. Remotion 2.0 does this in two ways: 1. Feeling the presence of your team 👯 Ambient awareness of your team by giving them a home on your screen 🤩 Bringing teammates to life with live selfies (instead of green dots) 2. Making room for more than work 🎵 Music rooms for chatting or coworking 🎉 Emoji badges that plant the seeds for cultural rituals 🤙 Quick calls that make dropping by feel natural 🧑‍💻 We're building for a hybrid future. Whenever we design a feature, we ask ourselves: "Would this help people feel connected, both remote and in-office?" 😸 We're temporarily limiting access so that we can provide a great experience. However, as a thank you to this community, if you're on macOS you can skip straight to booking an onboarding call by going to remotion.com and using the code "MEOW_MACOS" in our survey. 🗣 We'll be hanging out in the comments section starting at 9 am EST, and would love to hear what you think. WE SHIPPED LIVE SELFIES IN A WEEK after @chrismessina suggested it, and we'd love to bring your ideas to life too! On behalf of the whole Remotion team, thank you!

@chrismessina @embirico it's the best virtual office I've ever seen! Great launch!
Alexander Embiricos
@nataliekarakina thank you—would love to hear what you think when you try it!
@chrismessina @embirico I love showing your team in an image. It looks awesome. Plus, the green active icon makes it stand out.

Remotion is genuinely one of the most-used products on our team. I thought it would be an add-on to Slack, but it's actually replaced Slack in a lot of ways. It's helped our remote team communicate more openly and quickly in a totally organic way.
Alexander Embiricos
Thanks @nathansmonk, appreciate all the time you've spent with @samjau helping us build the right product!

While there are plenty of other solutions for conferencing and video-conferencing for remote teams, Remotion really brings back the feeling of an office to your desk away from the office. At a glance you can see the status of everyone, with my personal favorite - automated status updates when they have an ongoing event on their Google Calendar. Also, when 2 of your colleagues are in a conference on Remotion, this is shown on their avatars so you know they're busy (or ask to join their conversation on an impromptu 3-way conference) If your colleague just did something really cool, you can celebrate them by sending them an emoji, which they will get a subtle, but clear notification on - also from whom it came. It's also a great `I'm open for chat` pointer. Another thing that I love about Remotion is the colored 4-status system that they have: apart from online and offline, you can also set yourself as `Concentrating` when you're working on something where you need a lot of concentration for an extended period, or `Open to talk` - which will pop a notification up to your team members that you're available for random chats. A couple of months ago, we got access to the Remotion rooms beta for a couple months now and are loving it! When someone is in a room, that’s a good signal that they’re not concentrating hard enough at the moment that they would mind an interruption, so don’t be afraid to pop into the room and say hi to them. Just like you would in a normal office really, just more open, since in an office you can’t **not** be in a room. What I find very interesting in rooms is the audio feature they have - for each room, you can assign a youtube music video / playlist, which will continue playing in the room whether you stay there or not (we love putting some random music for concentration video up and then going into the room from time to time to check what music it’s playing right now). It’s a small thing, but for me it’s a special connection knowing that other people listen to the same sounds I’m listening to! Remotion is never in your face, with notifications that are subtle, but clear, even for calls, and makes it very easy to keep an overview of your team, while making it really easy to get rid of it, when it's in your way (e.g. you have a conference with a customer). I think, at the end of the day, the thing I love most about Remotion is that it's a tool that's used by a team that's developing it. It has all those small details of when you think about "Hmm, this is something I would have loved this tool to have", it turns out that it's already there. My remote team loves it ❤️ and I fully recommend your team gives it a try as well 👍
Alexander Embiricos
@camyyssa thank you so much for taking the time to share all this 🙏🙏🙏 We've really loved all the feedback you've shared with us in Slack and on calls even jamming on ideas together. You're dream early customers!
Camelia Smeria
@embirico 😁✨ When you create a great product that you care about, you get users that are excited about it 😎

We have been using Remotion for a few months and it's a game-changer for our hybrid team. The perfect tool to quickly connect with my team, I love the daily selfie feature and being able to actually see everyone's faces!
Alexander Embiricos
Thank you @sysless, excited for you to try live selfies then!
Tom Nguyen
Just love the product, we're using Remotion everyday for 3 months now, it's simply a must have. Awesome design, awesome experience 😁 Congratz on the launch @embirico & Remotion team ! 🙌
Alexander Embiricos
Thanks @tom_nguy, so awesome to have your support. Now... I really need to stop replying to comments and go to sleep 😅

Since my team went remote in April last year, we switched to Slack and Zoom and conversation really went down between us. It was sad. Once we started using Remotion, conversation started snowballing massively. It was not just me—the whole team says the same and we love it. The Remotion team also listens closely to feedback: They made some changes to the dock that we didn’t like a few months ago. We got on a feedback call and they fixed them quickly! (Thanks for reading my English—we’re actually using Remotion from Japan!)
Alexander Embiricos
Thanks @tdksk! It was so fun doing that user interview with @samjau together mixing Japanese and English. Really appreciate your support!
Zach Piepmeyer
We use it every 👏Single 👏Day 👏 All 👏 Day. We’re an early stage startup, fully remote. Remotion helped us grow the team 3->10. Our biggest ask is a missed calls feature since we rely on Remotion to communicate internally.
Alexander Embiricos
@zachpiepmeyer you 👏 are 👏 the 👏 best 👏. Really appreciate your support and sticking with us through the bug reports. Also, WE SHIPPED MISSED CALLS TODAY! If an invite times out, a notification will stick around waiting to be dismissed. Let us know what you think!
Camelia Smeria
@zachpiepmeyer Before reading the awesome update from Alexander, I was going to suggest sending a special emoji as a `I want to talk to you, give me a call when you have some time` to someone in the team. Implementation in Remotion is of course the best solution, but I'm still thinking going for something like this in my team, when someone is busy and you don't even want to bother them with that initial call, you just send them a 🤙
Zach Piepmeyer
@camyyssa I see what you’re saying. Right now we just send a slack message for that, but something like a poke (Facebook cringe 😬) could be helpful to not interrupt.

We tried Remotion 1.0 (very early version) and it didn't stick, but this looks so much better! I love the ability to share audio and much faster/cleaner experience. So far one of the best takes on the virtual office! Do you plan to add any kind of chat/async way of communication? Or do you see it more as something to be used in parallel with Slack?
Alexander Embiricos
@the_andriy_bond thanks, would love to hear your thoughts after you try it again. (Let me know if you need help creating new accounts or if need rooms created for your team.) We think about async a lot, but want to be mindful of creating yet another inbox to check. So far, you should use Remotion in parallel with Slack.
Sara Holyavkin
We have been using Remotion since Nov'20. Mostly I use it with my teammates in the same timezone, and thanks to Remotion we don't waste time for checking calendars or sending an invite. It's super easy-to-use. Also, all this time the Remotion team has been quite responsive to my feedback.
Alexander Embiricos
@saraholyavkin thank you so much! Let us know what we should build for you next!
Renato Osorio
I was immediately in love with Remotion. It stands out from all the competitors out there. It’s so beautiful and so easy to use. This application will change your work life forever.
Alexander Embiricos
@renato_osorio thank you so much! We haven't spoken directly, but I've seen some of the feedback clips via @samjau and couldn't be more grateful for your support and energy!
Alexa Jau
So excited to try this new product out! Seems like such a great tool for my small business :)
Alexander Embiricos
@alexa_jau thank you for the support!
Ryan Bugden
Remotion is the best! Really easy to use, seamless connection with the team—love it.
Alexander Embiricos
Thanks @r_and_m, amazing to see your brand work!
Michelle Ando
Remotion has been so easy and fun to use, love the new updates as well!
Alexander Embiricos
Thanks @michelle_ando, I'm a fan of your work!
Richard Tasker
Looking forward to trying this out. We are a hybrid team so this looks like it will be useful. Does it have some basic chat (text) capability?
Alexander Embiricos
Thank you @rtasker! Let me know if you have any issues getting access. We've intentionally avoided basic chat to avoid creating new information silos. Do you currently use a chat tool?
Richard Tasker
@embirico We use Slack. But as we all know Slack's video is awful. Another question - do you support virtual camera's on Mac so that mmhmm and other video apps will work?
Alexander Embiricos
@rtasker make sense—use Slack for text and Remotion for audio/video! We do support most virtual cameras including mmhmm. Some of them are a bit unreliable, so not all of them.
Eric Anderson
Remotion is a fantastic product and has become our default video chat tool for work (and fun!). It handles team presence super well and makes hoping into a call supremely fast and easy. At first we used it just for active collaboration and kept using Zoom for "just chatting" calls, but we eventually swapped over to Remotion for all calls because it's just so easy to use. The "daily selfie" feature seems mostly just fun and novel at first, until you realize that for fully remote teams the daily photo is a great way to feel connected to your teammates – seeing their selfie makes it feel almost as if they're "at their desk" (without all the downside of actually being at a desk in an office). We're a very heavily async team, but the "shoulder tap" style quick video calls are a very effective way for us to clarify complex issues quickly, brainstorm on hard problems that require the creativity that synchronous communication offers, or get some team connection when we want it. Nice work @embirico & team! Keep it up!!
Alexander Embiricos
Love this @theericanderson 🙏. You're spot on about daily selfies, and I hope you enjoy the live selfies that shipped today! Also, let me know if you're interested in trying out separately-focused coworking with music—we can turn on rooms for you.

These design updates are 🔥🔥🔥
Alexander Embiricos
@bohnjai yes, incredible work by Jasmine and @samjau.
Diana Rossoni
Looks awesome! Love the quick calls..don’t need to commit to a full meeting to speak with my team. Can’t wait to try it!
Alexander Embiricos
@dianarossoni thanks! Looking forward to hearing what you think!
Adam Fletcher
We use remotion at my company (bit.io ) and love it. We're fully remote and use remotion to simulate the in-office experience of leaning over and just asking your colleague a question. We setup a policy of "if someone is green on remotion you should feel 100% free to click on them and start chatting" - zero friction. The team uses this all time, and it's a big part of why remote work works for us. Highlight recommended!
Alexander Embiricos
Thanks @adamfletcher for being one of our earliest teams! Really appreciate your continuous feedback and spending time with us.
Nate Barbettini
?makers Any timeline for Windows support? Our virtual office is a hybrid of macOS and Windows 10.
Alexander Embiricos
@nbarbettini if people are finding Remotion 2.0 useful through launch, we'll get to Windows soon, starting via web!
Camelia Smeria
Signing up for that update. We're fully on Macs - except for one colleague, who is now completely out of the non-Slack loop 😳
Matt Holden
We're a small startup and use Remotion for all our video calls. Love how much more lightweight it feels to hop on and have a quick conversation vs using Zoom or Meet to have a "meeting". It's also nice to see when my co-founder is available, since we sometimes span different time zones. Keep it up!
Alexander Embiricos
Thank you @matt_holden1, excited to see your team grow!
