Bring your hybrid team to life, right on your desktop. Connect like everyone's together and include your remote teammates with quick calls, hybrid music rooms, emoji badging, live selfies, and more.
Since my team went remote in April last year, we switched to Slack and Zoom and conversation really went down between us. It was sad. Once we started using Remotion, conversation started snowballing massively. It was not just me—the whole team says the same and we love it.
The Remotion team also listens closely to feedback: They made some changes to the dock that we didn’t like a few months ago. We got on a feedback call and they fixed them quickly!
(Thanks for reading my English—we’re actually using Remotion from Japan!)
this has been fantastic -- we just reopened our offices and are trying to figure out how to support 2 offices and WFH together. Very excited to be piloting the hybrid rooms feature where we put Remotion on a TV. the team's product chops are amazing!
Remotion is a fantastic product and has become our default video chat tool for work (and fun!). It handles team presence super well and makes hoping into a call supremely fast and easy. At first we used it just for active collaboration and kept using Zoom for "just chatting" calls, but we eventually swapped over to Remotion for all calls because it's just so easy to use.
The "daily selfie" feature seems mostly just fun and novel at first, until you realize that for fully remote teams the daily photo is a great way to feel connected to your teammates – seeing their selfie makes it feel almost as if they're "at their desk" (without all the downside of actually being at a desk in an office).
We're a very heavily async team, but the "shoulder tap" style quick video calls are a very effective way for us to clarify complex issues quickly, brainstorm on hard problems that require the creativity that synchronous communication offers, or get some team connection when we want it.
Nice work @embirico & team! Keep it up!!
Love this @theericanderson 🙏. You're spot on about daily selfies, and I hope you enjoy the live selfies that shipped today!
Also, let me know if you're interested in trying out separately-focused coworking with music—we can turn on rooms for you.
Love remotion! Can't wait for you to reach Linux, but in the meantime I appreciate all the efforts to get it right on one platform before spreading yourselves too thin!
My team has been using Remotion for a few weeks and it has resulted in a noticeable improvement to our work atmosphere. It's one of my favorite productivity and culture tools.
@inactive_user_ (great name btw), thanks for the positivity you've brought to our beta! We shipped that update to music selection I was telling you to wait for—please check out coworking with music!
Congrats on the launch! We love Remotion and have been using for the past few months with our remote team across 3-4 different time zones. It's a way more natural / organic way to chat and collaborate with team members compared to Zoom, and it's helped us feel way more in touch and connected with our remote team members. Highly recommend for anyone running a distributed team.
I've had a chance to use Remotion and it's brilliant. No more link sharing/ inviting and planning to set up a conversation. Even better is the fact that you don't have to give up a huge portion of your screen. Congrats on the launch!
We tried Remotion 1.0 (very early version) and it didn't stick, but this looks so much better! I love the ability to share audio and much faster/cleaner experience. So far one of the best takes on the virtual office!
Do you plan to add any kind of chat/async way of communication? Or do you see it more as something to be used in parallel with Slack?
@the_andriy_bond thanks, would love to hear your thoughts after you try it again. (Let me know if you need help creating new accounts or if need rooms created for your team.)
We think about async a lot, but want to be mindful of creating yet another inbox to check. So far, you should use Remotion in parallel with Slack.
We use it every 👏Single 👏Day 👏 All 👏 Day. We’re an early stage startup, fully remote. Remotion helped us grow the team 3->10. Our biggest ask is a missed calls feature since we rely on Remotion to communicate internally.
@zachpiepmeyer you 👏 are 👏 the 👏 best 👏. Really appreciate your support and sticking with us through the bug reports.
Also, WE SHIPPED MISSED CALLS TODAY! If an invite times out, a notification will stick around waiting to be dismissed. Let us know what you think!
@zachpiepmeyer Before reading the awesome update from Alexander, I was going to suggest sending a special emoji as a `I want to talk to you, give me a call when you have some time` to someone in the team.
Implementation in Remotion is of course the best solution, but I'm still thinking going for something like this in my team, when someone is busy and you don't even want to bother them with that initial call, you just send them a 🤙
@camyyssa I see what you’re saying. Right now we just send a slack message for that, but something like a poke (Facebook cringe 😬) could be helpful to not interrupt.
We've been using Remotion for just a few weeks, but it's been great for our small, distributed team. The great part is that it is _so easy_ to spin up a conversation and iron out any confusion there might be about an issue. It feels really natural and seamless to drop into a meeting with people. I love the interactivity between coworkers it enables, great product folks!
Have been using Remotion the last 6 months, and not only is it a thoughtfully built product, the Remotion team spends a lot of time speaking with their users, and incorporating feedback into the product, which has yielded the incredible product that everyone is raving about on this thread. Great work Alexander and team! You should all be extremely proud of what you have built!
Thank you @rtasker! Let me know if you have any issues getting access. We've intentionally avoided basic chat to avoid creating new information silos. Do you currently use a chat tool?
@embirico We use Slack. But as we all know Slack's video is awful.
Another question - do you support virtual camera's on Mac so that mmhmm and other video apps will work?
@rtasker make sense—use Slack for text and Remotion for audio/video! We do support most virtual cameras including mmhmm. Some of them are a bit unreliable, so not all of them.
I love using Remotion. Emoji badges are endlessly fun – and the newly added live selfies are another creative opportunity to feel closer to my team.
Thanks and awesome job!
