@charleyma Story time! Kirti and I used to actually operate a gig company with 1000+ workers. We ran into major compliance problems that forced us to classify everyone as W2 employees. There was no product on the market that allowed us to seamlessly (and programmatically) run W2 payroll at scale. That's how we were introduced to the world of payroll infra. We started off with launching a Payroll API and then expanded to an entire suite of payroll infra tools. Today, we are the underlying infrastructure for all types of platforms. We're building a product we wish we had.

@spencer_burleigh There are a multitude of payroll builders, but the biggest categories are: HR/Insurance+Benefits, Time & Attendance, POS, Fintechs, and Vertical SaaS (think Square).
