Rise is a music discovery app based on a new system that gives visibility to all artists, both popular and undiscovered. You can browse artists from all over the world within five levels of increasing popularity, from city to Earth. A small gift to all music explorers and to musicians waiting to be discovered.

Congratulations on the release! I really love your word-density diagram, it is really brilliant for conveying the problem you are trying to solve. I haven't tested out the app yet (I don't have an iOS device with me at the moment), but I love the idea. One question -- how are you collecting all of this information? How do you determine popularity? How are you keeping it fresh? I understand if some of this is "secret sauce" -- but it's the one thing in the product pitch that's missing for me. Some indicator of how you are staying on top of this (and will continue to stay on top of it) should be up front and center, to give me the confidence that it won't be vaporware soon after installing. Maybe I missed it in my skim of the pitch -- but either way, really well done and best of luck. I'll be following! Cheers, Marc

Hello @mpsyp and thank you for your really encouraging feedback! That's some good insight. We are trying to find the right way to pitch such a content mapping system which is not conventional or immediate. As you've rightly pointed out, we have not focused the pitch on the data mapping process, beside visually expressing what it accomplishes. To answer your questions (without going into too much detail :)): in this case we gather popularity data from Spotify (as at the moment the app uses their artist metadata) and currently we update them every week. We apply location dependent thresholds to determine the ranking and artist distribution. Furthermore, the "Rising" mode ranks less popular and emerging artists every week using our own algorithms (again based on spotify metadata) in order to give them the highest possible visibility. This way the content of the various streams varies in time (in addition to the fact that there is a very large number of places to explore). We're also in the process of adding another stream filter which sorts artists by latest release, again providing more variety to the streams. Finally, we're constantly enriching the artists database with small/new/emerging artists that would benefit from having more visibility. If you have any more questions, we'll be happy to try and answer them! Thank you for following the project! Cheers, Fabio

@fabiodimartino Awesome -- thanks for the response. I would encourage you to find a way to express the accuracy/freshness of your algorithms without giving away too many secrets. Another thing that could help (or stand in for detailed technical explanations) is customer testimonials. Having a few quotes from real users on how they discovered a band, went to an amazing show, or had a life-changing event thanks to your product will be worth more than anything else! Marc

@fabiodimartino Also -- i've added your product to a Collection called "Products for Real Life" -- because I think it has the power to transform our daily lives and encourage real social interaction (at live venues, particularly for "local rising stars") as opposed to digital communication. These are some of my favorite uses of technology -- things that help us become more connected and fulfilled in the real world, not more disconnected and virtual in the digital world. Cheers and good luck!
Fabio Di Martino
@mpsyp what's awesome is your feedback. We will follow your advise, really helpful, thank you! We would like to also have testimonials from artists who have been helped by the app.
Fabio Di Martino
@mpsyp fantastic! "transform our daily lives and encourage real social interaction": this is actually one of the main drivers behind the idea which we believe could and should be applied to other fields (beside music) that can help real social interactions as well as being an instrument to spread ideas and content which could ultimately represent a bridge between people. It's really nice to see that we share a similar ethos. We have many ideas in mind and we'd love to discuss them to see if they can grow into something helpful. Once again, thank you for your great feedback and interest! We hope to keep this conversation going :) Cheers, Fabio

@jaimebosch_ thank you!! Your feedback means a lot considering the quality and technical complexity of the Voicemod platform! Impressive...

Hello everyone! We want to thank ProductHunt for featuring us! Exciting times... We really hope to get feedback from all you lovely people out there, not just for the Rise Music app, but also for the content mapping system we've developed. We've applied the system to music since it is one of our passions and we wanted to test its potential. We believe that beside content being proposed to us, we should also have powerful tools to actively seek and go to the content we're interested in. Rise Music shows a way to achieve this which we hope will be valuable to all content creators and to all content explorers. The system is pretty versatile and we are looking at possibilities for implementing in other fields (makers, small businesses, culture, activism and so on). We will soon put detailed content up explaining the data mapping system that powers Rise Music. Thank you all so much for your time and support! I will be more than happy to answer any questions and welcome any feedback that will surely help us understand how this work in progress can be improved.

We are fully aware that the app has a bit of a learning curve and would really benefit from an app tour to help first-time users get their bearings. We're on the case! Please bear with us...

IT's never easy to find a new music App, glad I did yeah.

Pros:

A brand new way to discover music based on geography and genre!

Cons:

Have to spend my time on it, yet.

Ciao PH community! 👋😺 We are very happy (and a bit shy) to publish our first creation, a small gift to music lovers and musicians. Rise is an interactive atlas that offers an alternative to the way we know, explore and listen to music from all over the world, while giving all musicians a better chance to be discovered. Today there is a prodigious amount of music out there, but unfortunately smaller artists who deserve more visibility get lost in a sea of music. Also, most music is suggested by complex algorithms that leave the fun of true search&discovery out. We wanted to make active music discovery easy, versatile and visually attractive. We also wanted to give us a way to find all musicians, small and big alike, depending on our musical taste. For these reasons, we have developed a new content mapping system and applied it to music. Artists are distributed among five levels of popularity, from City to Earth and updated every week. Are you looking for local and emerging artists? Pick a city or a region, or check Best of Cities, or Best of Regions. Are you looking for more popular artists? Pick a country, a continent, or Earth, or check Best of Countries and Best of Continents. “Rising” mode brings you a weekly serving of different emerging artists. We hope that this new system will help music lovers explore music and musicians be discovered more easily. We believe that the content mapping system we developed has a broad range of applications and that Rise has potential to improve with new features, better UI and bigger artists database. We would absolutely love to hear any feedback about this concept and any suggestions from you! We are very open to any useful collaboration. We would like to thank you so much for your time! (We would also like to apologise for being new here and have little previous activity in the community🍅). Some of the features: - Stream music directly from Spotify (full songs for premium users) - Hundreds of music Streams from all over the world. - Nearly 100 music genres - One-tap playlists for effortless music discovery - Double-tap gesture to quickly add songs to the queue - Tap&hold gesture to quickly insert a song to the queue - Swipe screen left or right to change popularity level (from City to Region to Country to Continent to Earth) - Search for any place or select it in the top-bar place-picker - Rising, Trending and Most Followed mode - Create your own playlists - Follow places - Access the ten newest and most popular songs for each artist or open their Spotify profile to access their full discography - Help artists rise by following them on Rise or Spotify, by playing them or by simply liking them P.S. Thank you so much PH for featuring us. A very happy day :)

@fabiodimartino Congrats on launching 🚀 its crazy how discovery is so ruled by algorithms, I hope this gets more independent artists the attention they deserve.
Fabio Di Martino
@abadesi Thank you so much! Very kind of you! This is our goal, to give people a search tool that helps small content creators in many different fields. We start with music as it is one of our passions and a lot of friends who are musicians struggle to get visibility online. We hope this helps :) The app is in its infancy and so we need the help of the music community to help and populate the artists database and improve the app.

A great way of discovering new genres from different places. It very much helps to drill down and get a flavour of new tendencies and artists. I loved the idea of getting to know local groups in my area and connect with friends and make nwe friends. A welcoming and innovative tool!

Pros: Great way to know music. Earth levels are cool for knowing the best of genres i like. Lower levels surprised me with some unexpected playlists and artists I didn't know at all. The interface makes me wanna keep on searching around the world. Nice work! Haven't seen anything similar out there. Cons: Need to add an app tour and a back button; also sort artists by date would be very nice.
Fabio Di Martino
Lovely feedback, thank you. We are a small team but we're working on all the features you have suggested :) Great advise!
