Hey there Roger team. Just wanted to say that I think you have a very good product that makes asynchronous voice conversations super easy. I love using it when my friends are abroad or when I want to talk but can't call them. Continue with the great updates! Wish talk heads were a possibility on iOS though… :(

@buzzb0x it is! Checkout the blog post https://medium.com/roger-talk/fo...

@ricardovice Yeah I know haha but it's not the same in terms of sleekness etc… :p Nice workaround though.

@buzzb0x well, just wait for iOS 10 :)

@blixt @pedronveloso @shreyas_ny Congrats team this looks like a step in the right direction but I'm curious to see how you guys are addressing your retention/churn issue. Not sure your monthly numbers but it looks like their isn't a lot of new up trending growth. I'm not focusing on vanity metric my concern is even with 1,000 people you should be able to see health and given your size and funding you have enough time to address these concerns. You're not a starving bootstrapped startup with no funding you have a brilliant & committed team working on this. app annie graph It's showing a very concerning downward trend momentum especially given this data is coupled with continuous updates. So you can clearly see the successive peaks and then the trend lowering from the previous time period and it hasn't bottomed out so it will get even lower. Just confused because this update didn't talk about the problem you guys are solving, better again it was all about "features". What did you guys learn in like a year that is going to help push you guys higher than ever with winning with users globally and why is this update so key to that discussion. So the concerning thing here is not about the pretty user interface, design looks great from one founder who's spent 10 years as a product designer to another....it's about the value proposition the messaging and the value promise and offered experience globally, touching diffrent cultures and demographics...I grabbed a shot from the US. Have you guys solved a need even with this 2.0 update or in the past around focusing on a certain key audience/culture ( country )? Curious as to if this 2.0 push is for you to address some of the issues with accessibility in Asia and part of the Middle East. How diverse is your team? I know you guys raised a $1 million dollar seed round and have been working on this for quite some time now so I'm curious after all of the article, buzz and fan fare where the health of the product stands globally and isn't just a meshup of derivative "solutions" that were in some ways not fleshed out properly from other competitors in this space that have abandoned it. Are you guys doing anything to address last mile issues when it comes to connectivity? Curious if their is any AI driven technology inside of Roger you didn't mention?

@nicholassheriff @blixt @pedronveloso @shreyas_ny great points, thank you for taking the time! Download rank chart aren't good indicators of retention though. Throughout our history, we've been lucky to have been featured on many press articles, and those always have these spiking effects. Our engagement numbers on the other hand have grown considerably, specially since the introduction of groups. And yes, our team is fairly diverse (from Portugal, Sweden, India and Singapore) and internationally minded (I used to lead Growth/New Markets) so we have been spending time focusing on markets outside US/Europe.

Hi everyone! I'm Pedro and I'm the lead Android developer at Roger. Ask me anything regarding how we made this happen, how it works or anything related to its possibilities. Let me know what you think about it as well!

Hey Product Hunt! Shreyas here, iOS Lead at Roger. Ask me any questions about Roger, TalkHeads, technical challenges, design, or just the communication space in general. Feedback welcome!

Hi Product Hunt! 👋 I’m Blixt – Co-founder and CTO of Roger, a simple walkie-talkie app for groups of friends, families, and teams. The Roger team is proud of our Roger 2.0 release today which tries to do things a bit differently. The main feature we’re introducing is TalkHeads, a way to talk to and listen to your close ones from anywhere in your phone. On Android, this is a floating avatar that’s pinned to your screen, above any other app you may be using. Tap once to listen and double-tap to talk. On iOS, it takes the form of a widget in the Notification Center. The widget allows you to talk or listen from anywhere on your iPhone, even from the lock screen(!), without having to open the Roger app. TalkHeads is something we’ve never seen before and we’re super excited about the possibilities it opens up! I have personally been having a lot of fun playing chess while talking with my opponent through TalkHeads, though I’ve also heard it referred to as the killer app for playing Pokemon Go. :) Try it out and let us know what you think!
Ben Tossell
@blixt Oooo interesting!! What has happened since the initial release that motivated you and the team to build something like this?
Blixt
@bentossell The main thing that happened is that we got Roger to a place where it's easy and fun to use, in-app. We focused on groups, made the UI more straightforward. The great thing about voice is that it doesn't require the attention of your hands and eyes, so we wanted to bring the experience of talking to your close ones everywhere. Now it doesn't matter if you're following Maps, checking an email, or your phone is locked – you can still talk. Another thing in this release that I didn't mention is LivePlay which, when enabled, will play out a conversation as people talk so you can listen to your family chat while cooking, or your team while you're out running. Basically we want the voices of the people in your life to be wherever you are whenever you want it, and we've got a lot more ideas that still need to be done. :)

Oh and check out this more cinematic video we made to showcase TalkHeads! 🎥
