Rooms lets you create games + interactive experiences from your browser. No download necessary. Every thing you see is editable and scriptable. And best of all, it’s free :-).
Hey everyone! 👋
Nick, Bruno and I are excited to introduce you to Rooms.xyz -- a platform for creating 3D games and experiences in your browser. This product is a labor of love, driven by what we wish we had when we were kids.
Rooms is a sandbox-y 3D platform where every thing is editable:
1. you can add any thing you want from our built-in library, or upload a .vox
2. change individual things with the built-in voxel editor
3. make things interactive with Lua code
Game creation+remixing is the most obvious use case, but we think this has potential far beyond that. For instance:
- You can use it to learn how to code, both by viewing the "source" of any room, and by changing code and seeing the effects instantly.
- You can use it to make animated videos with the built-in Camera mode. Each room essentially becomes a set and the Things, props.
- You can use it for interactive storytelling, connecting multiple rooms.
We've also integrated ChatGPT to make virtual characters come to life, included a free sound effect library, and more. There's so much Rooms can do and we're so excited to see what y'all make of it 🫶.
I'm on Spirit Airlines 🥁
They're charging 4️⃣ for a Coke Zero
But this ✨
💎 This product just made my day
It loaded fast ⚡️
Despite the wifi 🗑️ being on the slower side***
I teleported 🕳️ from room to room
Defended a room from invaders with great music 🎶
And started building a room 🚪 of my own
Could design new widgets for all types of commerce like branded virtual offices. This is super exciting. Good luck keeping up with the integration asks. Seems like you're designing/enabling entirely new calls-to-action.
I've been friends with @jasontoff for many years now, and he's one of the most creative and kind people I know.
I've had the chance to play with Rooms during the development, and it's been so fun seeing it go from early prototypes to the rich sandbox it is today. The team really cares about their craft, about making something delightful and simple and playful and fun. I'm excited to see it open for signups and to discover the rooms that people create.
(I'm a small investor in the company, so don't take my word for it. Go play with it yourself.)
Congrats on the launch! Love how versatile this is. Do you plan to add more gamey (objective based) elements in the future or do you want to keep it a sandbox?
Loved the video, high production but also very human. Love the voxel style. The rooms.xyz design looks very cozy, what's the most exciting use case do you see for rooms.xyz?
@between_team I don’t think it’s the biggest use case, so not sure we’ll prioritize it, but I think the idea of letting anyone make a Pixar-esque short video is wild
Wow, I love this product from the idea to the execution! It's very refreshing and well-made.
Had a great moment going through the onboarding then experimenting with existing rooms and the room creator.
Congratulations from a fellow 3D web developer 🙌
Rooms.xyz is an interesting and engaging way to build, learn, and share. Creating a room is fun and simple to do, but the creative possibilities are endless. Great job rooms team! it's been a blast so far and can't wait to build more rooms!
Looks super interesting (though current version is a tad heavy on browser - my arc browser strated throttling it in a few minutes, but understand its still an early build). Would love to see this with social graph linked and allowing ppl to visit other friends/profiles and collaborate on something. From my social gaming days of Zynga, it makes me a bit nostalgic :)
all the best!
Played around with Rooms a bunch as a "consumer" of rooms and frankly, haven't had such a delightful experience with a game-like product for a while.
The overall experience is incredibly polished, I love clicking through and finding easter eggs, and some of the game-oriented rooms are genuinely fun and addicting.
Personally - I'm excited/curious to see how this evolves. Think it would be an awesome game for kids to help them learn how to code and build worlds a-la Minecraft, or (selfishly) I want to see more games and puzzles built out so I have more to play!
What a neat little gem of a "game", or "platform" (I find it difficult to explain what rooms.xyz actually is).
Entertaining, educational and captivating, I had no prior Lua experience but found myself (with the assistance of ChatGPT) having a fun time problem-solving to get objects to do what I wanted to do, and felt accomplished when I succeeded.
As an entirely user-reliant sandbox, I am excited to see what users will be able to create within this "box" (or "room"), and I hope to see it grow and expand further - yet, I wonder and am nervous about how it'd be possible to monetize rooms.xyz, from a business standpoint.
Best of luck to the team behind this project, I'll definitely be visiting - and creating - more rooms in my spare time or whenever I feel extra creative.

As a voxel artist who knows nothing about coding, I can tell Roomxyz is a must-try for everyone interested in voxel art and coding. I had so much fun learning to write simple code to make my voxel room more lively. This is a fun tool and very easy to use.
