Rylo — The 360° camera that shoots larger-than-life video.
Featured

Rylo is an amazing new 360° action camera that allows you to shoot now and frame later. Built by the makers of Hyperlapse, Rylo gives you cinematic image stabilization, allows you to control the speed of your video, and reframe your shot to capture the important parts of your experience.

The promo video and product reminds me of GoPro, which makes me think: does GoPro not have a 360 camera!?
Sam McAllister
@rrhoover They do, the Fusion - although it's still not completely consumer oriented as the editing process is not super simple. Looks like Rylo have made a great effort here on the editing side!

Curious, what's the difference between the "Rylo for iPhone" and the "Rylo for Android"?
Chris Connolly
@joshuapinter Same core camera, but we bundle different cable packs with each device. The Android specific cabling and app are finalizing up and will be ready in the near future. You can also buy a Rylo now and buy an Android cabling pack later when it ships, if you want.
Joshua Pinter
@chrisconnolly How special is the cable? Does it have to come from you guys or can it be any micro-usb cable? My main question is, if I order a Rylo for iPhone, can I just use it with my Android phone later when you guys get the Android app released without having to purchase anything else from you?
Chris Connolly
@joshuapinter We do custom make our USB cabling specifically for our cameras, so we don't recommend using third party cables. Lots of bad cabling in the world so we can't give an unequivocally give a thumbs up on everything out there.
Jimmy Reuterwall
Looks awesome! How about the waterproof case, is it scuba ready (to what depth)? Also, can you pair two to shoot stereoscopic 360°?
Stephen
so many youtubers are going to love this, looks incredible!

I use Hyperlapse all the time to create smooth timelapses of drives in the mountains. As a photographer, Rylo looks like an amazing step in the direction of the future of photography. Being able to reframe shots after the fact is a really intriguing use of 360. Mash that up with the image stabilization and timelapse speed controls from Hyperlapse and you have the perfect action camera. I can't wait to try one!

Holy image stabilization! These are some beautiful captures: https://www.rylo.com/shotonrylo/ Looks like an amazing product and looking forward to seeing how creative people get with it!

I’ve been buying 360 camera gear like a hoarder for about a year now and everything about this company raises red flags for me, and the reviews appear to be fake according to FakeSpot. Regardless, I think the Insta360 One wins on almost every feature comparison, except the cable thing. I really don’t like the built in cable on the Insta360 One and how you can’t access images without plugging it in to your phone using this fragile appendage or removing the card. But at least I can trust the reviews and information on the web site.
David Matichuk
@coreyward lol, not the product. The reviews. They have some sort of formula to assess the credibility of a review such as history of posting party and most Ryle reviews failed according a youtube video post from a respected reviewer who was unable to find any credible reviews to justify his own purchase.
David Matichuk
I’d love to see a comparison of Rylo and Insta360 One from a credible reviewer of 360 video technology.

Anyway to edit this on a Mac instead of an iPhone?
Alex Karpenko
@androidlove Hi Carlos, the Rylo app lets you save a stabilized, horizon leveled, and stitched 360° 4K video to your camera roll. You can then edit it with any software that supports standard 360° formats.
G G
@alexkarpenko Can the memory card be taken out and placed on another Rylo to be edited? I want an airplane pilot to use it to film and have a separate individual select the shots and framing etc.
Alex Karpenko
@androidlove Yes, absolutely. The card can be swapped into another Rylo & transferred to the app from there.

Damn! That on a drone.. However, that price.

Question to confirm… normal 16:9 video output (that’s been stabilized) comes out at 1080p?
Edward Vasquez
a nice and compact design!

Love the product! Do you ship to the UK? A few notes from site (which is very nice btw) 1. What other accessories are planned on the roadmap? (I see Adventure/Everyday case) *idea for accessory (allow it to be attached to car rearview mirror/window - 360 dash cam :) ) 2. How are faulty units handled? 3. Is it waterproof/resistant? 4. How tough is the lens? 5. Does it capture sound? 6. 16gb mem' card...? I'd recommend spending an extra 0.50c - $2 and insert a 64/128/256gb card (let me know if you want the name of a few distributor for that, 16 years in that field) 7. Coloured silicon skin would be kool :) Best of luck with this Chris & Alex, I love the look of it, AWESOME
Sam Cholera
Forgot to mention, that launch video is beautiful!!! Do you mind if I ask the companies name that produced it, please?
Chris Connolly
@sam_cholera Thanks for the interest! -- No overseas shipping yet, sadly. We're working on it, but logistics mean local US first. -- We've got a lot of good ideas in the pipeline for accessories - depends on how we see people using these cameras and if we think we can build custom hardware to make filming easier. -- The device isn't waterproof-rated, but we do sell a water-resistant shell case which does the job if you want to take Rylo into dangerous territory. -- Lenses are custom built glass for our camera (in Japan!). They're tough, but as with every lens, they are scratchable. Using our bundled Everyday case helps keep the lenses safer (and helps give you a better image, away from your hands) so we recommend using that if possible. -- Sound, of course. Two microphones, 3D positional audio. -- The camera is tested for microSD cards up to 256GB, and the memory slot is easily accessible, so you're free to get a huge card and record a ton. -- Skins and covers are fun territory which will definitely get explored. -- Our launch video was done in collaboration with the excellent team over at NearFuture.

The editing tools look awesome, nice work guys. Can’t wait to see some smoothed out and stabilized downhill mountain bike videos…
Chris Connolly
@mathum99 Biking is one area where our stabilization makes a pretty huge difference. We did a bunch of test runs in California and Iceland for downhill mountain biking, and the before/after is pretty wild.
Product Pearson
Hey Alex. Looks amazing. I don't suppose you have a Product Hunt discount up for grabs for those of us considering purchasing this?
Sabrina Kipper
Great and comfortable in use gadget! The virtual scope is great, but I love real rifle scopes like those on https://www.atncorp.com/smart-hd.... Buying any of them is my dream. My friend promises to take me for a night hunting. I'm waiting impatiently!
Robert Magrino
Very cool! Question, what is the water resistance depth, and also is there a dome accessory for shooting above and below water (or is there a dome brand out there that works with it).
Chris Connolly
@rmagrino The device itself isn't rated for water usage, but we've built the Rylo Adventure Case for scenarios where you might not want your cameras to get muddy/wet/dirty.
Robert Magrino
@chrisconnolly hummm... I thought I saw a clip of the someone jumping into the water with the camera!
Chris Connolly
@rmagrino Most definitely using the Rylo Adventure case. :)

Picture quality looks great and seems like a handy product. 👍

Time to short GoPro stock. This software solution to 360 video stabilization is incredibly difficult and I’m pretty sure the hyperlapse team is the only one to get it done. Congrats guys!
Chris Connolly
@ctres Stabilization is incredibly hard to pull off right - our approach is significantly different than others have done in the past. We think it's the most important thing in creating great video content, so we've put a ton of work into it.
Colin Treseler
@chrisconnolly if I wasn’t doing a startup with other ex-instagrammers I would evangelize until you needed a pm. Love the look - excited to try it out!
