It's back! @linuz90 — I thought this was broken at some point... what changed/got fixed?
Clement Cazalot
Hey makers - I really like it. However can you clarify in terms of security what this means to use you? Is your client directly communicating with Slack's servers, or are you brokering the information through your servers?
John O'Nolan

It's great.

Pros:

Best client for Slack and the only one I use

Cons:

None

Looks neat. Congrats! 😉 I wonder how you will fit your product in Slack's Developer Policy. Do you think you will get in trouble? I had a great discussion with them when they did send me a notification about https://www.producthunt.com/post..., then I had to read again their policies. As I understand it's not authorized to build another client, especially changing their brand guidelines. It's a genuine question. I think your product is great. I truly hope they allow you to keep it running. If you are curious, I shared my experience here: https://www.indiehackers.com/for...

For some reason, the text won't scroll as smoothly as it does on the native mac application.

Any plans on porting this to linux ? I'd be very interested :D

Interestingly as far as i see from Activity Monitor, it uses more RAM (with the name of your Slack url) Dark mode is useful but needs small touches, otherwise i didn't find it useful (text color shouldn't be #fff for example, or file uploads shouldn't be sharp black #000) and also there are minor bugs about the dark theme..

As a conclusion; idea is good, execution needs more attention.

Pros:

Dark Mode

Cons:

Higher RAM usage

All this work for nothing 😰️ You will get a cease & desist from Slack by the end of the day.

Hi Product Hunt! 👋 We are so happy to be back with a new product to solve a big issue we had with Slack for a long time, especially since the release of macOS Mojave. You guessed it, the lack of Dark Mode 😱 Also, we’re not really fans of Electron so we wish there was a faster, more lightweight client for Slack since we have it open all day long. So we made our own Slack client with a beautiful Dark theme (enabled by default) built with our own tech stack, the same one powering our main product Boxy Suite. It’s blazing fast ⚡️ Let us know what you think! It’s free, but if you want to support us make sure to also check out Boxy Suite - Gmail for Mac https://boxysuite.com 💙 PS: you might remember with made “Sblack” a few months ago. It was a little app that injected the dark mode CSS into the Slack official client. This new app is a standalone client that works just like a browser, so it’s safer and easier to update ✅

I like the idea and Slack does ruin my CPU currently, but not being able to get notifications for multiple work spaces is the only thing stopping me using it right now. Good work and good luck!

Wow well this is nice. Any chance the dark theme will integrate with Mac's dark theme settings soon? (e.g. if i turn dark mode on system wide, will sblack update accordingly?) THANK you for this. 😄

@linuz90 The website says it doesn't support all the slack features. So exactly what features does it not support?
John Farmer
Hope this one lasts, original Sblack was awesome but short lived. Slack needs to deliver a first party dark mode before letting their legal dogs loose. They are so aggressive to shut products like this down, it doesn't make any sense to me.. I don't think it ever will.

Finally I can get along with Slack.

Pros:

Simple, fast, lightweight

Cons:

I don't know

tungthanh
It's blazingly fast. I saw it and it just replaced the current Franz app right off the bat.

I love this idea and the dark mode works well for most of the interface. The dealbreaker for me is that it doesn't support calls, if you ever want to call or screenshare then you're better off with the native app.

Pros:

Dark mode for slack

Cons:

Doesn't support calls

Unfortunately, my notifications are going to my phone now instead of the sblack app which is a deal breaker for me 😢

I want to give some information to explain a wrong info that written on web page `This is not an Electron app, so its size is 20 MB instead of 180 MB. It also launches faster than the official client.` Actually, Slack's macOS App is not an electron app, it's developed with macGap https://macgapproject.github.io

I naively though this actually was going to be a native Slack client for Mac. But it's basically the same in a new wrapping. The performance differences are negligible compared to for instance the performance of the Telegram native macOS client implemented in Swift.

Or you could use this Pokémon Slack theme generator 😃
