With SeaTable, teams can easily organize their tasks, assets, projects and ideas. It looks like a spreadsheet but structures any type of information, in the cloud or on your own server.
Ok, so this is quote clearly an Airtable clone (even the UI is virtually identical) but what interests me is that you can apparently install it on your own server. A common objection to using Airtable for business is “I don’t want another company to have all my data” or “what if I invest in building a base and then Airtable closes shop?”
If the developers of SeaTable keep adding features and gradually tweak the UI so it doesn’t look exactly like Airtable, it could become a serious contender in this field.
@anna_0x I'm right there with you. The idea of Airtable in a controlled hosting environment seems really smart for certain types of teams/organizations. But It's off-putting to see the UI be entirely copied.
@chrismessina would be great if the ?makers could tell us a bit about their thinking process behind copying Airtable’s UI (which, in my eyes, doesn’t inspire much confidence in their product) as well as their plans for the future.
