Today Secret launched on Android and is now available worldwide.
Secret's received a ton of criticism (and will most definitely receive more as it expands beyond the tech scene). I'm a big fan and excited for @chrysb, @davidbyttow, @samhouston, & team. cc @andrewchen, @JaredSF.
@miradu I was really glad to see that Secret for Android had highly-requested filtering features before the iOS version. Now they're both caught up which is even better for consistency.
Was excited to see it coming to Android, but did not continue with installation when I saw one of the permissions the app asks for is to read your contacts. A little bit terrifying for an app focused on anonymity...
Their UX is outstanding. Very easy to use. Love the way they educate users about how the app works. I have a hard time coming up with things I would post on Secret but not Twitter, but I'm sure I'll get there.
The "Growth Hackers" of the world should all look to Secret for some pointers. Amazing work building a truly viral product. I recently posted several secrets and got hundreds of likes in minutes. Would appreciate less notifications as an active user with lots of inbound activity, however.
The new Secret website reminds me a lot of Vine's browsable web experience. Great for when I'm at my desk and want to take a quick break and consume some digestible bits of gossip/humor.
I look at Secret as less of a communication platform and more as another medium for expressing oneself, not unlike Medium or Tumblr or YouTube, etc. I think initially a lot of people expected it to just be used as a gossip board between friends, but fortunately the community is a lot more vibrant than that today.
