Iâm so glad our biggest project is finally out! We took a whole lot of amazing apps from the best developers on the market and put them in a single folder. With no ads and in-app purchases, itâs the simplest UX you can get. What we have now is a totally new way of finding and using apps. I believe itâs going to change the Mac world. Weâll make sure it does. Join us, test the beta version and tell me what you think! :)
Setapp is an alternative sort of app store for Mac, based on a monthly subscription to access a long list of apps. Setapp was built by the guys at MacPaw, and I use their CleanMyMac app. The first 500 hunters to follow the link will get access to the closed Setapp beta instantly

I installed Setapp a few days ago just because of the interest how does the idea with monthly subscription and access to MAS apps works and I'm pretty amazed, to be honest. I discovered a few great apps for me that I didn't know about and got some great that I wanted earlier like Ulysses.
I was pretty surprised getting notifications that a new app was added. So fast! I definitely will use Setapp and recommend it to my friends.
I've been using MacPaw's apps forever and it all started with CleanMyMac what is still one of my favourite Mac apps ever. I guess, Setapp will join the gang of the best apps.
There are some seriously good applications included in Setapp! Especially with Ulysses, TaskPaper, Gemini, Focusesed, etc.
It's a good way to get apps that otherwise you may of thought are too expensive for a one time purchase, but if you'd use a few of the included apps, this is a hell of a deal.
I like the look of this, especially as the library grows. Obviously as it grows it might become difficult to offer the same price to customers and still provide a high enough revenue to developers but it could be cool in the future if you have packages, eg. Developer package, Designer, Writer etc or get all package. Just a thought. Good work though, I look forward to seeing this grow :-)
I've been using Setapp for about a week now. It's really slick. It is simple to set up and install and use apps. I am very impressed with the library of apps offered so far. My biggest fear would be if an app I am using gets pulled from Setapp. I highly recommend checking out Setapp.
I'm glad that my app is in the mix. Hope the service gains solid traction.
I've created a collection of hunted products available in Setapp:

@kosovan Thanks! I got the beta and am doing some initial testing. No conflicts so far, just a pause when launching apps from Spotlight because I need to pick the one I want to launch. Maybe an option to disable specific apps you don't want to be available would be a useful preferences feature.
@kosovan@chuck_grimmett +1. It would be nice to be able to hide apps so they don't show up in searches (or if you already have the app installed). Do you plan to offer an easy way to individually purchase apps at full price?
Love the idea and the initiative, but without more powerhouse apps, this feels like a pretty pricey foray into building an independent marketplace for apps. There have been similar initiatives like this in the past. I'm curious how or if Apple will continue to change the OS X security model to make it harder to operate third party app stores.
@chrismessina This year Apple have opened a lot of great stuff for the apps outside of the MacAppStore, like iCloud synchronisation, support for push notifications, etc. This means that they will unlikely close it again in the nearest future.
I don't get it... How does this work? I just get all of these apps for free? I saw someone mention a subscription but I see no official mention of that on the website or the video/images.
@neurohacked Setapp is a subscription based service. You get all the apps available there for a monthly fee - $9.99 with a free 30-day a fully-featured trial.
@kosovan I got the beta through my use of Sip and I was just curious: what selection process do you use when determining which Mac apps you'll include in the folder? Does it have to fall in a certain category or have a specific advantage over other apps?
@tiborrothschild Lots of parameters are involved: how popular the app on the market, what are the user reviews, how well the app is made, what reputation does the Vendor have, what problems doest it solve, does it fit our guidelines and ecosystem, etc...
Spent 10 minutes clicking on all apps logos on https://setapp.com/apps to discover new ones. A curated, mac app library... a bit like Producthunt, in a way. Very cool.
Used it for a few days now. Love that you can discover and try apps you haven't seen before. Found a few awesome ones, but there are many I won't use ever or I don't really like. Maybe make some profiles or categories like "Developer", "Designer", etc. Then there are apps I have bought already via Mac AppStore, which are just like $3 or so. I need to use a few more apps on a regular basis to make the monthly investment worth it as opposed to buying the few apps I use right away and pay only once. But right now SETAPP doesnt contain all the apps I would like to use such as Sketch and Bear. So at this point I value that I can kind of trial run some curated apps without the hassle of searching them on Google, but would probably then go ahead and buy it from the MAS.
@metzgereduard Thanks for the feedback, we will definitely add more apps in the future. You can also hide apps that you don't need right now, just by removing preview App. You will be able to restore them if you need in the future.
this seems like a new and great idea, but ill pass for now. 70% of your apps have been in different mac bundles for ages. the ones that i care for i already bought on the app store. good luck though.
@kosovan thanks for your open minded question. to be honest, i dont know. im pretty informed about mac apps in general and i believe i own the ones i want. id rather support the dev directly than letting another company get a slice of the cake. no offense.
even if you added 2 or 3 apps id like to have, it would still make more sense for me to just buy them. most of your apps are in the $10-$20 region, so instead of subscribing to 4 months of your service i'd just buy those 3 apps and own them for a lifetime.
but again, i believe this is a great idea for many people. just not for those who already bought a large selection of those apps you offer.
