Shade View is a Safari web extension that instantly transforms any website into dark mode. Customize background and text brightness to suit your viewing needs. Compatible with iOS, macOS, and iPadOS.
Hi everyone! The story behind this app is quite simple. After getting my first MacBook last year and using Safari as my default browser, I noticed that most extensions available to turn any website into dark mode were expensive and offered more features than I needed. I needed a tool to transform any website into dark mode and to adjust its background and text brightness, and I wanted it to be very simple, so I decided to create one myself. The result is 'Shade View Dark Mode for Safari,' a streamlined extension that allows you to instantly transform any website into dark mode. Customize the background and text brightness to suit your viewing needs. It seamlessly integrates with Safari, ensuring a smooth and privacy-focused browsing experience, as it doesn’t collect any data. Compatible with iOS, macOS, and iPadOS.
I hope it can be helpful for many people out there. I've also coded other Safari extensions, such as a font identifier, a color picker, a SVG Picker, a CSS inspector, and more.

Shade View is a fantastic tool for optimizing screen time and eye comfort! 👓🌗 Its thoughtful design helps reduce eye strain by adjusting brightness and color tones. Excited to see how Shade View will improve the digital experience and promote healthier screen habits! 🚀👏
Congrats @ag_uxdesign! Shade View is a fantastic addition to Safari extensions. The ability to customize background and text brightness is a game-changer for those of us who spend long hours online. I'm curious, are there any future plans to incorporate more customization features like color themes or scheduled dark mode?
Hey Alfredo,
Have you considered expanding to other browsers in the future?
I'm curious about how it handles complex layouts or sites with unusual color schemes. Does it ever struggle with readability?
Congrats on the launch!
Hi @kyrylosilin ! We are going to stick to Safari for the moment as there are already many options for Chrome and Firefox. So far the extension handles really well complex layouts, but the internet is a big place, and we are testing it on new sites.
Thanks for the support, we wish you all the best in your projects!

Hey @ag_uxdesign! Love the concept of Shade View! Quick question: can you adjust the brightness settings for individual websites, or is it a one-size-fits-all approach? Excited to try it out! 😊
Hi @star_boat ! When you adjust the brightness settings on a websites, those setting are saved when you visit it again. You can customize all the websites that you visit with different brightness settings.
We wish you all the best!

Very interesting product, would you like to ask if you can customize the color value of dark color? Because I like some color matching, which makes me more focused when reading
AMAZING! Finally, a way to make the internet as dark and mysterious as my sense of humour. Can't wait to see how my favourite websites look like they're hosting a midnight picnic🙂
This looks interesting, Dark mode extensions are super useful, but I'm curious about the customization options—how granular is the control over brightness settings? Also, have you considered any future features like scheduling for automatic dark mode? Would love to see more on this!
Hi @toniko ! The control over brightness is pretty accurate and we have tested it on many websites. Do you mean scheduling for automatic dark mode at certain hours? This actually sound like a great idea and we will definitely consider it for future update. Stay tuned!

@ag_uxdesign Your Shade View Dark Mode for Safari extension sounds like a fantastic solution for those needing a simple yet effective dark mode tool. I'm particularly interested in the customization options and how well it integrates with different websites. Based on my experience, I think providing feedback on the responsiveness and customization compared to other tools could be incredibly valuable. How do you find the responsiveness and customization options of the Shade View extension compared to other dark mode tools you've used?
@zephyrion Shade View stands out with its quick responsiveness and extensive customization options, allowing users to adjust contrast and brightness to suit their needs.

I'm all for dark modes but what if I still want certain sites to stay in light mode, any way to exclude them automatically, also does it work well with all website elements like videos or does it create weird color issues, curious to hear if others have had any problems?
Hi @techinnovatorevp ! You just have to toggle the switch off on the popup menu and it will exclude the current website from turning into dark mode. We haven't detected any issue with elements like videos or images so far.
We wish you the best!

Auto-dark mode's cool n all but isn't it kinda late, we've had similar tools like Dark Reader for years, how's this any different, also is it really necessary to make the whole net dark, I mean specifics could be better like some sites messing up with simple reverse colors, maybe adding more customization features is the key, ya know, like tailored for individual websites, who else agrees
Not sure why iOS users need another dark mode extension when there are so many already, plus this one only works with Safari, so if you're not using that browser you're out of luck, maybe think about making it work with more browsers, also it'd be cool to have an option to switch back to light mode easily without uninstalling.
Interesting idea, but it kinda just feels like another version of Dark Reader, y'know? Plus, customizing darkness and brightness is already a thing on many apps, might be tough to convince people they need another extension cluttering their browser, what makes this one any different?
Nice effort, but another dark mode extension, really? feels like there's tons already, plus not everyone wants simpler or fewer features, im curious though, could this actually be an essential tool or is it just more of the same packaged differently
I'm really impressed with your new tool, it looks handy and super useful, especially for those late-night browsing sessions, do you think it could support different themes or maybe add an option to schedule the dark mode automatically, anyway great job so far keep it up!
Hi @rubysolutionist ! We will definitely consider adding more features for customization in the future! Stay tuned for new updates!

Just another dark mode extension huh, I mean how many of these do we need, sure it's cool to have auto-dark mode for all sites but is it really that innovative, feels like we have seen this done a million times, I hope the customization features are worth the hype but I'm skeptical
Hey there, cool concept but I'm wondering if it really needed to be a whole new extension, wouldn't it have been better to add these features to an existing extension, also what about users who need more customization options like font style and color, any chance of adding that in the future
