Shantaram — Bank robber & heroin addict escapes jail and flees to India

Shantaram is an incredible read. The novel is written by Gregory Roberts who was a convicted Australian bank robber and heroin addict who escaped from a maximum security prison, obtains a fake passport and moves to the slums of India. There, he joins the mafia, sets up a free health clinic, falls in love, has near-death experiences and so much more. Highly recommend :)

Loved it, debating whether or not to read the sequel. Can't be as good, right?

The description of this one person's life and the myriad number of situations his life weaves in and out of is absolutely incredible. You almost feel like a part of his life ...
