Hey Producthunt 👋 I'm Josh, a designer/developer attempting this solo thing. ShiftPlane is the first product I'm launching on PH! As a builder at heart, I started work on ShiftPlane in August last year before I knew exactly what I was building. But while I wrote code and researched I began to notice a trend. Substack, Patreon, Discord, Medium, Circle, Ghost, Memberful, Gumroad, and others all existed in a similar plane with various adjustments in certain dimensions: creators vs communities, product vs memberships, flexibility vs restraint. So, perhaps ahead of my skis, I continued to build and focused on shifting the paradigm to what I felt would be the best of everything: a community-led platform that gave organizers the ability to define their own products that were inherently linked to the community, rather than being sold from a separate platform. A community platform that gave organizers the ability to host and send premium content, like a newsletter, rather than requiring a separate email platform. From August to January I fell into the classic trap: more features, more refinement, more ideas needed to be added before launch. In January I recognized this trend in my prior work too. To move forward, I decided to do the only reasonable thing to get over this trend: adopt the Levels Challenge and launch 12 startups this year. ShiftPlane is the first!
