@martijn_snels Oh I didn't think about these third-party integrations, thanks for the idea! Definitely worth taking a look how to best implement this. One concern I have in mind is that with a combined view of all task lists, it might become too overwhelming and we end up not looking at it anymore.
Hi, Arnelle here 👋 I'm the maker of Simple Todo. I built this app mainly to have an app that manages my todos the way I currently do with physical sticky notes. I want my todo list to be visible as often as possible (because when it it out of sight, it is out of mind) so the browser's new tab seems like a good place to put it.
Hey everyone! Thank you all for trying out the app and for all your feedback! I've created a Twitter account for Simple Todo where I will be posting updates as I release them. Please consider following, thank you! https://twitter.com/simpletodoapp 🎉
@michael_richardson4 When you see your todos every now and then, it's easier to keep track of them and not forget about them :) Thanks for checking it out!
Ok, so I'm really liking it so far! The only downside is that if I'm sharing my screen during a call and have to open a new tab, my to do list is there... I know it's your main USP and it's a purpose of changing a new browser tab into something else, but some work around could be cool. Also I had to bookmark an actual google.com page, because from there I access my docs, drive, etc.
So far it's the simplest to do list I found and that's the main thing I like about it, I'll see how long I can handle the extra steps needed to get to an actual google page though.
If there would be some other easy way to access it, so not via new tab, most likely I would switch to that option.
@edita Hi, I'm glad that you found this tool useful! Thank you very much for your feedback and ideas on how I could make Simple Todo even better!
I'll be adding a "privacy mode" which will blur out the contents of the todo items. I also share my screen a lot and I will also personally need it at some point. This is the next thing that I'll be working on.
I'll consider adding quick links to some Google apps (I think Gmail, Drive, and Calendar would be the minimum ones needed?). This will most likely be disabled by default to keep the interface simple. I'll think about how to best implement this.
In the meantime, Simple Todo is also available as a Web app (instead of a new tab replacement) at https://simple-todo.arnelle.me/. Unfortunately the todos are not yet synced across the two, so you'd have to manually migrate your todos from the new tab into the site (or if you know your way around DevTools, you can copy-paste the todos data from LocalStorage).
Again, thank you very much for the feedback! And stay tuned for these upcoming updates!
@arnellebalane the quick links I use the most are docs, sheets and drive (I always have gmail and calendar open by default), but that would vary from person to person for sure. I actually love the idea of blurring it out and adding quick links. Congrats on a cool app and looking forward for updates!
@edita Oh yeah that was my bad, I prematurely released the "what's new" changes before the extension was approved in the Chrome Webstore. So your version picks it up even though it's not in the latest version yet. I've handled this so it doesn't happen in the future anymore, but for now you'll have to wait for the extension to be updated in your browser. Sorry for the inconvenience 🙇♂️
Ok, so I'm still a big fan! Random thing, I find myself using it to take notes... Afterwords I would cross those notes out after it's properly added and placed into right channels, groups, etc. (basically a reminder not to forget to deal with that note). The only downside is that the to-do becomes quite long with a long note. Not sure if anyone did the same, but I though I'll share how I'm breaking the intended behaviour :D @arnellebalane
Hi @edita , thank you for your helpful feedback as usual! Just thinking about possible solutions to this, do you think it would be helpful to have an option to collapse long todos so you only see the first few lines, with a "view more" option to expand and show the entire contents? This can be disabled by default, and have an option to enable from the settings dialog. What do you think?
Also a small update for you, the "quick links" feature is what I'm actively working on at the moment, I expecting to finish it some time next week. Stay tuned! 😁
@arnellebalane to see only the first 3-4 lines would make sense indeed! Not sure if I would use "view more", I would juts click to open full message in the pop-up (like it is now with double click to open the editor) - just my personal preference, because then I can easily copy or modify stuff, etc.
I added this to chrome and will give it a shot. Feature request - can you make "cmd+enter" save the to do ( so i don't have to leave the keyboard to save the todo )?
Thanks for creating
@johngoodmanstudio Thank you for giving it a shot! Your request is already on my todo list, as someone already reached out to me for similar functionality. If you don't mind, please follow the Twitter account to be notified when this feature gets released https://twitter.com/simpletodoapp, thank you so much! 🎉
@johngoodmanstudio Hey! "Cmd+Enter" to save the todo is now implemented and available in the latest version of Simple Todo! Your browser should automatically update it for you :) Thank you!
Simple and clean design I like it. Except that my new tab is already taken by a bookmarking tool that I'm using :(.
Would be awesome if you allow people to save bookmarks like workona. All the best for the launch!
@ken_moo Thanks! It's true Simple Todo currently only deals with todos, but integrating with bookmarks isn't that difficult to do as well. I'll have to consider how to best to display them on the page so it works well together with todos. Thank you for your feedback!
Hi @arnellebalane I've been using this useful from a past few days now and I've found it amazingly helpful. However, If I can have the ability to color code my to-do tasks then I believe it would make it easy for the user to prioritize the tasks for the day. Thank you for building this anyway!
@lakshay_sachdeva Hello! Thanks for checking it out, and I'm glad that you found it useful! Support for adding "tags" for each todo is already scheduled for a future release! Thank you for your request, I'm excited to implement this feature too, please stay tuned for this! :)
