A little over a week ago I had the thought of creating a poster that would serve as a constant reminder of my financial goal for 2018. I figured other people might want the same thing -- so I made this.
Instead of money, I'd love it if you can list your top 3 priorities and maybe 3 sub priorities. And then turn that into a poster.
Here's what I wrote down a couple years ago to keep myself focused:
Neat. Sometimes the simplest stuff is most effective. Have to admit, visually seeing it broken down on a website (instead of my spreadsheets) gave it some extra oomph. Thx!
@robjbye I disagree with this sentiment. Money brings freedom, and freedom brings happiness.
To me happiness means being able to do whatever you want in life wether that’s travelling the world and buying tickets for space tourism adventures, or just staying at home with your family full time.
The sad reality for the vast vast majority of folk is that they are tied to a job they hate making just enough money to get by.
@robjbye@mickc79 “Traveling is a fool's paradise. Our first journeys discover to us the indifference of places. At home I dream that at Naples, at Rome, I can be intoxicated with beauty, and lose my sadness. I pack my trunk, embrace my friends, embark on the sea, and at last wake up in Naples, and there beside me is the stern fact, the sad self, unrelenting, identical, that I fled from. I seek the Vatican, and the palaces. I affect to be intoxicated with sights and suggestions, but I am not intoxicated. My giant goes with me wherever I go.”

@robjbye Hi Rob, I certainly don’t disagree. The pursuit of money as a sole or main objective is generally a losing cause.
However, it is a simple metric - similar to that of a stock price for a company - that encompasses many layers of strategic objectives and tactical plans for execution.
Finally, as the adage goes, “it’s not what you make, it’s what you keep.” Creating a target is nice when it helps you save, pay off debt, and create the space/optionality to do more fulfilling things with the people you care about.
Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts.
@robjbye@imchrisdavis hi Chris, I agree with you. The pursuit of money is generally a losing cause, however that wasn’t what was mentioned. Rob simply said that money doesn’t bring happiness.
The pursuit of money and money itself are wholly different things.
