StuChef helps low income college students who struggle with cooking or eating healthy to improve their cooking abilities by allowing them to have access to easy, healthy, dorm-friendly, and low-costing recipes to add to their personal cookbook.
Hello ProductHunt! We wanted to showcase to this community the project that our student group from the PeaceX Student Venture Studio has worked on over the past few months, StuChef!
As many college students can attest, trying to eat healthy while cramming for tests, finishing labs, and writing essays can be hard, let alone trying to get into the world of cooking. We found some troubling trends with our future engineers, doctors, and entrepreneurs.
- “A study found that eating fast food might have a negative impact on grades”
- “A survey discovered that 36% of college students in the United States are food insecure, which means they aren’t able to eat enough”
- “40% of four-year college students have trouble affording healthy meals”
- “About 63 percent of college students aren't eating the recommended amount of fruits and vegetables every day,”
- “About 175 college students were also surveyed on their willingness to change their diet and increase their fruit and vegetable intake”
- “Eighty-four percent of students consumed fast-food with 54% eating it at least once a week”
- “54.7% of students spent $5–6 per meal. Seventy-seven percent reported it likely that healthier meals would cost more”
Most students don’t eat enough fruits and vegetables, eat fast food once a week, and 40% of students have trouble affording healthy meals. All of this, according to studies, not only translates into worse health, but worse performance in school.
