Wow wow wow! This is going to be a game changer for casting indie projects. Currently working on a pilot, but with our budget and the SAG strike, we're not wanting to go through an agency or poorly designed casting sites (ahem, Actor's Access and their 2009 interface). Also a great option for actors who want to keep their IG pages focused on personal life.
Is there/will there be a feature for directors/producers to put out casting calls and handle initial auditions and slides via Slate?
This is really cool! Adding a social aspect to it might be a good idea. Offer casting directors/ad agencies/production companies the ability to hire models for shoots or commercials through your platform directly.
Seems interesting! I've noticed in the entertainment industry the importance of social presence and engagement, how does this compare to sharing a creator's social profile (instagram, youtube, etc) where the musician/model/actor primarily post as their resume?
@kyleadams Yes you're absolutely correct! Social presence is an essential part of being discovered. However, while you can be discovered on social media, a lot of roles are still posted on entertainment specific websites. Casting directors and producers field submissions based on very specific criteria (height, weight, ethnicity, etc.). Furthermore, actors often have representation (agents/managers) and don't readily respond to DMs.
How Slate V2 may look?
Imagine, that Slate is a social hub where people can connect with others who share common interests and intentions.
It provides various discussion topics, including networking with industry professionals, finding collaborators for projects, showcasing work to receive feedback, and sharing expertise/talent tips & tricks.
Users can connect with performers or creative professionals in their field for collaborations and career advice. They can also find potential collaborators for projects like films or art exhibitions by engaging with others who have similar interests and skills.
Visitors have the opportunity to present their portfolios and receive constructive criticism from fellow artists or industry experts to improve their craft.
Experienced users are encouraged to discuss best practices on optimizing online presence through profile customization as they guide newcomers seeking guidance.
It’s been awesome to see how you’ve evolved your vision for Slate over the last year through customer discovery to support talent across multiple industries. Congrats Gerard!
