Reminds me of PSTMRK. Downloading now...

@rrhoover Wish you enjoy the slower pace to talk 😎

I'm curious as to if any inspiration was taken from my very similar project. https://www.behance.net/gallery/... Regardless, it's nice to see this idea being implemented into a real app.
Kevin Wong
@samdotdesign Interesting. But I didn't take reference from that.

Clean, well designed app! I've signed up and started writing letters. Some feedback: the editor screen doesn't scroll so I can't really write beyond a short paragraph.
Kevin Wong
@eightbitjoker Thanks for the positive feedback Angelo! Wish you enjoy chatting with others! I will take a closer look about the editor problem👌🏼 May I know your iOS version? thanks!
Kevin Wong
@vicky_buddie @eightbitjoker Upgrading to ver 1.0.1 should fix the scrolling problem, please give it a try, thank you!

Just sent my first pen pal a letter. @kevin_wong1 do you mail physical letters or is it digital letters?
Kevin Wong
@littlejazzhands Just digital letters atm, but it is an interesting idea to send physical as well 👍
Dylan Marriott
@littlejazzhands @kevin_wong1 you could always ask your pen pal if he'd be up for switching to physical letters :)
Kevin Wong

@kevin_wong1 when I was skimming the synopsis, I briefly thought this will send an actual physical letter. That actually would've been really sweet. I haven't received a personal physical mail from anyone in decades. :(
Jake Frey
This is really cool. Can I feature on neuestore.com ?
Kevin Wong
@frey Please do! It's my pleasure 🙏
Kevin Leneway
I love getting physical mail, can't wait to try this out.
Kevin Wong
@kleneway Ahhh, actually the letters are still digital. I am trying to simulate the more complete pen pal experience into mobile. But like Dylan said above, you could always ask your pen pal if he'd be up for switching to physical letters :)
Dylan Marriott
Such a lovely idea. Now I just have to wait two days and hope my pen pal in Australia will reply :) Congrats to Kevin for building such a great app!
Kevin Wong
@dylan36032 Thank you very much! Almost cried when reading your comment. ; )

The design is phenomenal! It's a rally cool idea too. I see that it'll be available for Android soon, can't wait to try it.
Kevin Wong
@antonis_tsagari Thank you! I will let you know when android is ready :)

Aww man. I would love to try this when it's available for Android :)

@vicky_buddie @hipreetam93 Thank you! I will let you know when android is ready :)

Enjoying the app! Will there be a desktop version in the future? Would be nice to have the ability to create/view drafts in a larger view, clean up spelling/grammar, see how much I typed (make sure I typed enough for it to be worth the long wait), translate words...etc. I find myself hopping in and out of the app to construct a message and also using my laptop for typing. Thanks for creating this lovely app!
Kevin Wong
@chelseabeachem I wish too! Desktop version may take a longer time to develop, I will add to my To-Do list :) Let's see how far @slowlyapp can go :)
..
I like the concept. I tried it but wasn't able to connect to anyone. I'll download again in the coming months to see if anything changed.
Kevin Wong
@shakurgreen Hmm...may I know is there a bug or something happened? Or you couldn't see any users from auto-match / manual browsing? Please share your experience to me ( if you prefer email: kevin@getslowly.com ) It will be very helpful for continue improving the app, thank you!
..
@kevin_wong1 I wasn't able to find any users from the auto match feature. I did fill out everything. I also played around with the preferences option to no avail.
Kevin Wong
@shakurgreen Ahhh got it, maybe related to the topic / language, please try again later!
Kevin Wong
@shakurgreen It shouldn't be a problem, there are quite a lot users picked this topic, hmm, can you go into the app > settings and send us a feedback, so I can take a closer look with your account? thanks.

I've long regretted not keeping in touch with pen pals, as the art of letter-writing and slow thought has been fading in recent years. You've wonderfully captured the joyful moments of having a pen pal in these features; letters taking longer to arrive based on their location is really clever!
Kevin Wong
@stevenjmesser Thanks Steve!

@kevin_wong1 Very interesting. I was wondering about creating something similar 2 days ago. I visioned it in terms of a chatbot, right there in Facebook messenger. No need to download any application, letters will be delivered on Facebook messenger itself. We at http://morph.ai can expose your service as a chatbot for you.
Kevin Wong
@ishanjain_t chatbot idea is quite interesting, but the message delivery can be delayed?
Ishan Jain
@kevin_wong1 It sure can be delayed. Can you send an email to ishan@morph.ai? We can talk the specifics there.

@kevin_wong1 Love the app! Well designed, beautifully eloquent. Could I write about it for my site? (https://theannotation.com)? Despite that, I really do agree with the idea of slow communication. In this fast paced world it's extremely nice to be able to just slow down... and make conversations worth it again. Also: You may want to touch this up ;) : https://goo.gl/photos/r9XPnhAVRH...
Kevin Wong
Thanks for the screen cap @tristanisham ! I am working on a minor version upgrade hopefully releasing in a day, please stay tuned! And yes, please feel free to review and share, it's my pleasure!
Zev Lapin
@kevin_wong1 @tristanisham did you do the design work?
Kevin Wong
@bbzeven Hi Zev, yes.
Daveyon Mayne
@kevin_wong1 Diverse avatars perhaps?

I love the idea and philosophy behind Slowly. Instant messaging is fine, but waiting for the letter to come it is almost so exciting as waiting for Christmas presents! Can't wait for Android version of Slowly and try it out for myself. @kevin_wong1 can I sing up somewhere for Android release notification? :)
Kevin Wong
@julia_wroblewska Yes yes, please subscribe here: http://eepurl.com/cAsJL5 thank you :)
Shaista
I'm really looking forward to the android version. Can't wait to try it out

I love Slowly, been obsessed with it for the past couple of weeks since I discovered it in the Play Store. A great experience overall but here are my issues:

(1) even though most users seem to be eager to have a deeper conversation, some of them just type "hey, do you wanna be friends?" which is pretty annoying. The app even warns the user if they try to send a very short letter but I think that maybe it should not be allowed at all.

(2) there's an option in auto-match to only message users that have been online in the past few days. That's great for the ones sending the letters but I get so many letters per day that I get overwhelmed and can't reply to all of them the way I should. For that reason I turned auto-match off but that's not ideal because I like it. I wish there was a way to set an auto-match acceptance limit, like "1 per day" and same for letters from people you haven't written with yet.

(3) very small selection of avatars. I keep confusing some of my penpals for each other because they have the same avatar and write similarly/come from the same country. I think it wouldn't be an issue if there were more avatars to choose from (I love the fact you cannot use a photo though)

(4) I wish I could preview exactly what my profile looks like to others. Small thing but still :)

I can't think of anything else at the moment.

Let me repeat that I LOVE THIS APP, I just think it could be even better ⭐

Pros:

engaging, fantastic UI, cute illustrations, generally positive community, rewarding experience

Cons:

can't see exactly what your profile looks like to other users, no limit on how many letters /day from strangers you can accept, few avatars
