@bryansarnold
Hi Bryan,
We’d love to hear more about why you think so - and can hop on a call anytime this week! To us, the internet of things is just getting its legs. We’ve used material science to create an object that, with nothing but plastic (no chips, no antennas, no scanners, no batteries), can be identified by the screen of our phones. We have plenty more work to do, but the stamps are already being used to respectfully identify a user, combat DRM issues with music and other digital content, and connect users to assets that can only be accessed with a SnowShoe Stamp 2.0. Imagine a world where physical objects can talk back to us…without batteries or sensors. We think that’s pretty cool!

Hi Dylan,
The stamps communicate to the phones using the phone's touch-screens - something that's standard on all modern smartphones. The old version of our stamps didn't work reliably enough on Androids because the 3D material we were using wasn't conductive enough. We've spent the last 6+ months testing plastics and scaling our manufacturing process in China. Stamps 2.0 work reliably on both iPhone and Androids and are much sleeker. We are super excited to show them off!
Neat concept. I'd suggest working a bit more on your positioning and key messages.
At a minimum, that means a more descriptive headline. "Unlock magic with a touch of plastic" might work as a *tagline* (such as for an ad campaign, or on product packaging)... But for your homepage (and in other places where you have limited space -- such as the PH description, Twitter profile, etc), you need a summary statement that says what the product is and what it does.
Based on my limited knowledge of SnowShoe Stamp, that content would be something like this:
What it is: smartphone tool
What it does: enables verification, distribution, tracking (etc)
@tomcharde Great piece of feedback. We are definitely going to be running experiences on the best way to communicate what the stamps are and what they do. Thanks for reviewing the site!
@nrose
Hi Noah,
We love the Tiggly guys, and yes, the stamps are similar because they communicate to the phone in the same fashion as the Tiggly toys do. We've positioned SnowShoe as a tool for developers, brands, and agencies to leverage a piece of plastic that can unlock digital experiences for their customers.
I am pretty excited about this little stamp. I have a few use cases I have toyed around with in the past that required something like this. Shoot me a message, i'd love to hear your story. nemrowj at gmail.
@scottruona
Hi Scott,
Yes, the stamps all have a unique capacitive signature that the phone can identify. With our current form factor and algorithm, we can make several million unique stamps. As touch screens sensors improve and as we make changes to the algorithm we expect that number to increase significantly.
@inorganik Hi Jamie, Good question! The bottom of the stamp is completely flat black surface. I will try to get a photo posted later today.
It's bulky because of how we need to construct the stamps, so they work optimally. The bottom black piece is as thin as we can make it so it will work on both OS and Androids and allows us to make individually unique stamps. As for the handle, we wanted a design that made you hold the stamp the correct way and looked similar to a traditional ink stamp.
Nice! Really keen on getting our hands on a unit or two for testing / integration in the flow of our app.
Jumping the gun a little, but has there been any testing with wearables?
@roamlocally Love to learn more about your app - I'm happy to schedule a call if you have time.
We haven't explored much with wearables because screen sizes are so small but it is worth exploring.
So I'm interested in the main use-case here @ccmoberg and @jamilim ...
Why did you build this?
I'm not sure I get it entirely... also fyi the video quality on the landing page needs higher-res :)
@bentossell Hi Ben, thanks for the comment.
We originally came up with the idea of the stamp about 3 years ago. We were building loyalty apps for SMBs and needed a way to redeem digital coupons off phones. NFC wouldn't work (don't work on iPhones), QR codes weren't secure enough, and most SMBs were hesitant to install expensive equipment at their point of sale or throughout their stores.
After building out the API and making the stamps we had quite a few people interested in using the stamps in their own products. We pivoted from building loyalty apps to being the technology that can power cool and magical experiences. We've recently worked with partners to use stamps to distribute exclusive content at events (music downloads, app downloads, and videos), track RSVP engagement and much more!
Thanks for the feedback on the video - we plan to be updating it very soon!
@jamilim ok cool thanks for letting me know :)
What kinds of businesses seem to be the biggest adopters? Have you explored Music festivals?
Is this sold as a white-label product for others to brand as their own?
@bentossell We've had great traction with event marketing - with several implementations at music festivals with Red Bull. Stamps were handed out to attendees that linked to music downloads (iTunes and SoundCloud) for Red Bull sponsored artists.
Yes, we sell the stamps as white-labeled products. We supply a sticker template so you can customize the graphic on top of the handle and for order quantities of 1K or more we can customize the stamps for you.
@jamilim@bentossell agree with Ben here. not only could the video be higher res, it could highlight a much better use case. very awesome potential here.
Great product. We have used earlier version, very excited for this new one. We had an on-the-ground download campaign for our app and needed a mechanism for attribution, this was best thing around.
So - I can see this taking off for games on mobile along the lines of Skylanders.. I could see Crossy Road plastic characters appearing in the shops which give you a special character in the game with extra powers..
@ichillidesign We love the gaming space, and we are actively exploring that market. Why not make mobile games more fun and offer additional ways to monetize by delivering a physical toy that unlocks special functions in the game? !
