A one-page space to collect your thoughts and revisit them for reflection. No sign-up, no sync. Choose your mood, add a tag, and write. The data is securely stored locally in your browser using IndexedDB and can be exported whenever needed.
I was looking for a minimalistic reflection app — something light and clean. No need for an account, no subscriptions, no affirmations or advice. Just a place to write things down as they appear in my head. Plus, it feels safer knowing my reflections aren’t uploaded anywhere.
I couldn’t find anything simple enough, so I decided to create it myself over a weekend. Pure HTML/JS/CSS combined with the browser’s local IndexedDB. In the end, it took a weekend plus a couple of late evenings, but I’m glad it’s complete enough.
This is the cutest journaling reflection app, really clear and pretty, makes me relaxed and feel like in a safe space just looking at it 😄
Just one comment, when I added a prompt without picking an emoji first it took me a few seconds to understand why my comment wasn't saved, and that I needed to pick a mood first
Otherwise I love the simplicity of it ❤️
@annedevj Thanks a lot, Anne! If you feel this way, I’m confident that I’ve reached my goal 🙌
You’re not the first to mention the required mood selection, overlooked it, will fix!
The focus on simplicity and privacy is spot-on, @nklmkln! "Something from Your Mind" is exactly what I needed to declutter my thoughts. I’m curious, do you have plans to integrate basic editing tools like bold or italic text to enhance the journaling experience while keeping it minimalistic?
@renchu_song Richard, thanks! I did not do any formatting on purpose because it's more for writing down shorter thoughts and insights, but formatting tools are totally possible depending on users' feedback!
Congratulations! The minimalist design and local storage approach using IndexedDB are thoughtful touches that prioritize user privacy and simplicity. Are there plans to introduce additional features for categorizing or filtering thoughts, perhaps based on mood or tags, to enhance the reflective experience and make it even more personalized?
@flowsz Thanks! There is an option right now to filter the feed by pressing any mood icon or any tag in the feed on the right. I plan to make it more visible and add more complex things like search and date filters 👀
Hey Nick,
I like the minimalist approach here. Do you have any plans to add basic search functionality to find past entries more easily?
Congrats on the launch!
@kyrylosilin hello, Kyrylo!
Thanks! For now I just use browser search with CMD+F because it’s all on one page, but I’m thinking about search options, little mood calendar and also date filtering.
Figuring out how to do it elegantly enough so it’s still light one-pager
Love the concept of "Something from Your Mind"! The minimalistic design really stands out—it's so refreshing to see a tool that allows you to focus purely on your thoughts without distractions. Can’t wait to give it a try! 🌟
I really appreciate the minimalistic approach and the focus on privacy, no sign-ups or syncing sounds perfect for keeping things personal. How customizable is it in terms of tags or moods?
Just wrote "this is awesome" in the journal and realized how awesome it actually is :D
Good job and congratulations @nklmkln ! I genuinely love the concept behind SFYM and bookmarked it for my personal use! Good job again and good luck!
Love this minimalistic approach! The focus on keeping things simple and secure is just what I’ve been looking for. Any plans to support customize emoji?
@nklmkln Congratulations on launching your minimalistic reflection app! Your focus on simplicity and privacy is commendable. To enhance the user experience, consider refining the note-taking and retrieval process. Additionally, it might be beneficial to incorporate a simple encryption feature or backup reminder for added security. How have you found the balance between minimalism and functionality in your app, and do you have plans for future iterations to improve user engagement?
@zephyrion Thanks a lot for feedback, backup reminder is a great idea!
To be honest, I wanted to build something I would use myself. Accounts, subscriptions, cloud storage, heavy UI just distract us from journaling, so I basically tried to remove all of it and place what's left on one single page.
As for improvements, I'm thinking about more complex filters based on dates and lightweight search options.
Loving the simplicity and no-fuss approach of this new tool, really nice for those of us who just want to jot down thoughts without any hassle, could you consider adding a dark mode or even some basic formatting options to spice things up, kudos to the team for keeping it straightforward and useful 🙌
@nilsa_hembree Thanks! Dark mode is there, it’s automatic based on your device appearance settings 🙌
I will consider adding some formatting options, thanks for the feedback!
Another minimalistic note-taking tool, huh? Seems like this is just another version of Google Keep or Evernote but with less functionality, no sign-up and local storage sound nice but isn't really a unique selling point in 2023, curious how this is supposed to stand out, good luck with that.
@cloudcraftsman thanks! Totally not trying to replace notes here, it’s just a fun and separate space purely for reflections with mood and tag filtering 🙌
