Meet Somme, the wine app that brings you personalized wine recommendations based on your unique taste profile. Whether you're browsing a wine aisle, studying a menu, or exploring new bottles, Somme helps you to make confident, informed wine choices.
Hey Product Hunters! 👋
After countless hours of sipping, scanning, and building, I’m beyond excited to introduce Somme, an app designed to make exploring wine as delightful as drinking it. 🍷
Ever found yourself staring at a wine menu or shelf, unsure what to pick? That’s exactly why we built Somme ... to take the guesswork out of wine and help you discover bottles that match your unique taste. Forget relying on random wine ratings from strangers, Somme helps you trust your own palate and taste.
I’d love to hear how you pick your wines. Do you go by the label, the region, or just wing it? And what features would make this the ultimate wine app for you? Let’s chat below! 🥂
Cheers,
Jaime
@de_ascanio Super congrats! I’m a wine lover myself and at the beginning I could have really used your product :)
Does Somme also goes beyond typical wines? (Orange, unconventional, biodynamic, macerated)
@sofia__bettari Hello Sofia :), thank you! Yes it works with any type of wine (I just tested it with orange wines, thank you for the tip), even with Sake and Champagne, of course to get good recommendations you should set your preferences in the app, indicating that you like those type of wines.
I agree when you get some knowledge you are able to pick good wines, but the app is very helpful when traveling and even to discover new wines
Give it a try, it's free to use and can even send you a promo code if you run out of free scans, I would love to hear your feedback, we are constantly improving the algorithm to give better and more accurate results.
Hello Hunters, the free promo code I added in the post already has been used, so if you want one, please let me know in the comments and I will send you one, I have 99 promo codes left to give. Will love to hear your feedback if you end up using one. Thank you!
Looks great — where are you sourcing your data from?
I once did some design work for Delectable, but it seems like Vivino has won the market.
Would be interested in a promo code to try it out.
@chrismessina Thank you Chris :) I have trained an AI with wine data from our wine distributor partner, but we are still fine turning it, sent you the promo code on linkedin ;)
Congrats on Somme!!! sounds like a fantastic way to discover wines that match your taste! One idea I’d suggest is adding a gamified quiz feature, where users can answer fun, wine-related questions to help build their taste profile. It could be a great way for people like me, who aren’t experts, to learn more about wine in a fun and engaging way. Keep up the amazing work!
@tonyabracadabra That's an awesome suggestion! I thought to do something similar in the onboarding, but you are right, it can also be available every time you want to add a flavor profile! Thank you I'm gonna add it to the backlog right away :)
@de_ascanio Not being a sommelier / wine connoisseur, I usually wing it. I liked the feature of food pairing. Is it AI generated or is it post taking a screenshot of the menu? Also, in developing countries, the price point matters. Is there a way to identify the best deals for wines?
@varun_bhagath Hello Varun, give it a try I would love to hear some feedback from user like you. The tasting parings are AI generated after you scan the wine bottle or wine menu. We are working on a feature for the prices, it will tell you the reatil price and compare it with the one on the menu
@de_ascanio More often than not the menu pricing will be at a premium. So not much use in that. Knowing to identify a wine which suits my palate and within my budget would be. Also wines from different regions (despite being white, red, roze' etc.) are likely to taste different. How different is a Chilean wine when compared to one from Australia in the same category? For newbies like me... I need to be educated on wine. Hope your app would do that in the future. All the best.
@varun_bhagath yes, we are currently doing that, so when you set your preferences, by scanning a wine you have loved in the past as your flavor profile, so for example your preferences are white rioja viura wines, our algorithm knows you like wines with that flavor profiles and it will compare to the scans you make, for example if you scanned a Chardonnay you will probably get a high score match even though they are not from the same region even different grapes, and it will tell you why you get that score
Congrats, years ago, we tried to tackle something similar, the database and tech were just not there! Have to love AI, et. al.! Cheers from Sonoma and San Francisco CA! Best of luck.
@ihuzaifashoukat Thank you 😊 the main difference is that the recommendation are based on you flavor profiles and you can set as many flavor profiles as you want (preferences) it will also learn on your own ratings but it doesn’t give you recommendations based on random ratings by other users which can’t be accurate for your unique taste, hope you try, love to hear your feedback
@mas_esq then is app is for you 😍🙌 let me know how it goes, would love to hear your feedback, and if you need a promo code I’ll be happy to send you one
Hey awesome idea, congrats on the launch! Can I e.g. enter what food is for dinner and scan bottles in the store to see which would fit the best that specific dish?
@edmundas_eddy not at the moment but it is an interesting feature, and not that difficult to integrate. would you like to be based your taste and on those which ones better pair with your dinner, or not taking into account your preferences?
@de_ascanio I’m not a wine expert, so when I’m going to a dinner or party with friends, I just want to get something that pairs well with food. E.g. what goes best with fish vs for grilled meats etc
